Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

France has moved a step closer to ditching the compulsory 35-hour week, a cornerstone of French socialist policy 10 years ago. Many French employees work longer than 35 hours a week but accumulate time off or overtime.

Sacre Bleu!

Dang it, Monsieur Jomama, you beat me by two mintues with the same comment,
you crazy Frenchman.

But the Europeans are so fucking enlightened!

Savoir Faire is everywhere!

"But the Europeans are so fucking enlightened!"

YEAH!

But whats Bushs excuse (for keeping working hours of an Aupair Girl for the past seven years)?

"It's (glug) hard work (glug glug)...Laura, dammit, we're outta Boone's Farm again!"

My company hires alot of employees in India and some of them are working in my office for a few months and I was shocked to learn that they don't work as many hours and have more holidays than their American counterparts working for the same company. They also get driven to and from work (which means they never have to say late because their car comes at the same time every day) and have their meals paid for them. Also, the company throws them at least a half dozen parties a year (they thought our cheapo picnic was sad). Oh, and they have ping-pong tables at work so they can play when they "have nothing else to do".

Granted, the wage has to be so low that it still makes sense cost wise to hire them rather than Americans but I also know that none of these perks would be offered if they could get away with not offering them.

Now if they would just get rid of that damn Universal Health care!

We all know that doesn't work either!

YEAH!

I have always found 80 hour work weeks more conducive to "Family Values" than spending time with the kids and enjoying life and such.

Sincerely

Vern "If I wasnt a Christian Id Wish you Dead" Spitcup

It's so sad that the poor French worker may have to increase his/her work day from 35 to 40 hours. Too bad they aren't lucky like Americans who only work 30 hours, though of course, that's 30 hours in two or three jobs...and without benefits, of course.

Redneck,

You're the first lib poster I've read with a sense of humour. You are really a righty right?

What will they do? Now they may not have enough time to braid their armpit hair or weave their leg hairs into long johns.

Socialism does not work...France was going belly up...high unemployment, lack of productivity, and as a result less tax money to build social programs on.

They have finally faced a basic fact...you have to work to succeed..either individually or as a collective country...less work = Lower standard of living.

I wonder when the American Left will realise the same fact.

They can call it a 35 hour work week, but I'm sure most public servants put in half that amount of actual work time.

like Americans who only work 30 hours, though of course, that's 30 hours in two or three jobs...and without benefits, of course.

Should've stayed in school. It's amazing the jobs you can get when you possess a skillset worth getting paid for.

Aren't we just entitled to have more than our parents?

French whine with my cheese please ...

Yea, yea, but you forgot the best part. they are also very inefficient and unproductive during the hours that they do work. I know that fact first-hand. and they stink too.

but other than that, they are a real kick in the head.

french people a VERY stinky!

FACT!

None of your retards have ever been to France.

FACTAZOIDAL!

Bad move.

Work-week caps promote fuller employment, which is why you'll never see one in this country.

None of your retards have ever been to France.

I thought we agreed, no ragging on people's families on this blog!

Should've stayed in school. It's amazing the jobs you can get when you possess a skillset worth getting paid for.

Higher education doesn't garuntee a higher pay scale. I worked in a gas station for 2 years. Before that, I bounced from job to job once every year or so because the people I worked for just wanted a cubicle dweller.

It also doesn't give you a skillset that is worth anything to an employer. It does tell the employer that you might be able to learn.

AX-
I mostly agree with you. Certainly, a college degree (or the lack of one) is among the easiest ways to weed out applicants. It doesn't guarantee a high paying job but it does help you from getting screened out as readily.

Your bouncing around from job to job (jobs which, I suspect, required some sort of degree) is more about your choice in working under various conditions. It had nothing to do with education.

Last week I taught a job hunting class at the local Employment Services Commission. One participant was in his 50's and had bounced around for the better part of 25 years. He'd gotten degree in music and worked in schools for a few years.

I don't know what caused him to leave that line of work - he said it was the low pay (but his subsequent employment history was replete with low paying roles). I suspect he had drug issues - issues which closed many doors.

My experience has been in the technical field that experience speaks far louder than school. I have seen employers choose experience over a new college grad every time

Thousands of white collar, college educated folks are being laid off all over the country by mortgage companies, banks, airlines, manufacturing companies, etc. yet the idiotic righties still try to pretend that no one is ever unemployed or underemployed through no fault of their own. I don't wish problems on anyone but I do think some of these creeps deserve an opportunity to feel what it is like.
It's ok though, because most of the ones making those comments are really working at 7-11 anyway, here they pretend to be highly paid professionals but their writing skills generally give them away.

35 hours would be nice.....just means 5 more hours of OT every week! I don't know anyone who is serious about their "career" (not job) that works only 40 hours a week, more like 50+

I wonder when the American Left will realise the same fact.

You are a dreamer, arn't you? They will go to their grave thinking men will work to make their neighbor happy. Go figure.

Neck,

I doubt you have ever held a job for more that a few days anyway. Quit your bitching and go back to sippin your 40. BT, welfare checks should be ariving to your house next Friday.

Danni,

I am sorry you have to work 2 or 3 jobs. Maybe if you had gotten an education you would not have to. Claiming most people do is just crazy. I do not know one person that has to work more than one job, but I am sure you do.

Danni,

Writing skills has nothing to do with upward mobilty in most jobs, that is why you have staff. But you might have known this if you ever actually had a job above the entrance level, or a job at all. At least being jobless and on welfare all these years as given you the time to improved your writng skills.

Ah yes if only everyone got a degree it would all be great. I mean if you don't have a job making 200k a year you must be stupid or lazy. And if you don't agree with that last statement well obviously you are on welfare and are gay or have 12 kids with 12 anonymous men. Because everyone knows that the welfare lifestyle is the most awesome there is.

Good god people stop feeding on your own shit.

"I do not know one person that has to work more than one job, but I am sure you do."

Well yes I do, I don't judge people by their income level and I actually even associate with some blue collar folks. We think those who are to full of themselves to hang out with working class folks are generally assholes. If the shoe fits....

But whats Bushs excuse (for keeping working hours of an Aupair Girl for the past seven years)?

It takes several hours a day to sweep the WH for dangerous pretzels before Dubya can leave the residence. And bicycles just don't ride themselves, you know.

But not stupid enough to get sucked into Bush's iraqi clusterfuck.

FIASCOFACT!

Northguy3-
You really have nothing better to do or say than try to bash Bush, do you? I mean, you find a way of bringing him up in a story about 35 hour French work weeks. I agree that Bush is not the best president in history, but, good god man, diversify your conversations!

"I actually even associate with some blue collar folks"

WOW, mighty white of you danni. Hanging out with the "little" people must make you feel good?

I am not to full of myself,I just do not KNOW anyone who has 2 or 3 jobs.

Maybe that because you are old and dried up and all of your associates were part of the most worthless generation. We got ours so fuck you kids is the motto.

Spoken like a true loser there salaryman.

Go figure.

I guess dropping out of high school and going to work at Burger King was not all it was cracked up to be huh?

Well I am off to the links. Retired at ahe 51, life really sucks. See you losers later.

"See you losers later."

"I am not to full of myself"

Uh-huh. Riiight. Like I said above, if the shoe fits......

retired at 51? You are part of the most worthless generation.

I put in 30 years with the fire department you worthless piece of shit.

Retirement is so cool.

So, just what is it your geneation has done?
