Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Politico: John McCain said "Iraq" when he apparently meant "Afghanistan" on Monday, adding to a string of mixed-up word choices that is giving ammunition to the opposition. In the past three weeks, McCain has mixed up Iraq and Afghanistan, Somalia and Sudan, and even football's Packers and Steelers.

The Right bitches because Obama lacks experience and is still learning. Yet their guy is only capable of forgetting.

If this is the best stuff that the McCain bashers can come up with then war hero Senator John McCain must be doing pretty well. Obama's gaffes are funnier though, like when he said he had visited all 57 states and lately when he said that he would be in office 8-10 years. Sometimes I wonder if those were just gaffes though or embarassing ignorance.

So you really suspect that a guy who graduated from Harvard Law doesn't know how many states there are????? No you don't.

yeah, not knowing where Iraq, Iran and Pakistan are is fairly insignificant, given their non-importance in today's world Thommmyboy. And germany and russia are pretty much the same place too.

But the Iraqi PM endorsing Obama's schedule, along with Bush now talking about timetables must really hurt McSame, assuming he remembers he is against them. At the rate he's going, he's going to need Joementum to deliver his nomination acceptance speech.

How's McCain gonna bomb Iran if he can't even find it on the map? Knowledge of foreign policy requires at the very least some basic knowledge of geography.

Obama "The surge will not work" and "The war is not winnable".

"The war is not winnable".

We won't really know until we leave the Iraqis in charge of their own country. We can suppress the insurgents but we can't "win" the occupation until we trust the Iraqis to secure their own country. Some of us in America think it's been long enough, enough casualties, enough expense.

Obama "The surge will not work" and "The war is not winnable".

I can't seem to find those quotes. Do you have a link?

And, you can always identify a douche-bag loser who never actually attended school past the 6th grade by his weak attempt at categorizing everyone else.

OK MIDTOWNCOWBOY have it your way, you do think a Harvard Law School graduate doesn't know how many states there are. I think that makes you seem dumber though.

Midtown,
Describe what winning looks like. Should be easy since most tools on the right parrot that regularly when talking about Iraq.

I agree old bean, but sometimes we need to associate with the commonfolk when we need them to perform mundane tasks for us; such as fetching the Grey Poupon from the icebox.

You know it is going to be kind of embarrassing to listen to Mr Poopypants squirm through fits of dementia for 4 more months.

Can you Pub guys just throw in the towel or something and save us all the discomfort?

This is just agonizing to watch...

Midtown-compare Obama's comments to mcsames': the Iraq war will be cheap quick and we'll be greeted as liberators while the sunnis and shia sing kumbaya.

Was McSame delusional and incompetent, or was he just lying America into a war to support Bush?

Either way, too dangerous to be anywhere near the nuclear button.

Mcsame's 3 a.m. call: "They did what? Dammit, my friend, nuke Tel Aviv!"
His 4 a.m. call: "I did what? Dammit my friend, I meant tehran. Did you know I was in the Navy half a century ago?"

YEAH!

Just so I know --- when did getting shot down, captured and then alowed to be broken by some skinny slope qualify one as a War Hero?

"This is just agonizing to watch..."

If he were a Republican he would have said, "The government should not be in the business of telling companies what medicines they should or should not cover." This is what happens when McCain tries to hard "to get the women's vote". He wants to be all things to all people, the Straight Talk Express no longer is.

the Straight Talk Express no longer is'

Never really was.

His gaffes are worrisome.
To be fair, though, Obama has said some strange things, too.

Oy, what a choice...mediocre and "mediocrier."

Well at least McCain's gafffes can be explained by his age - without that explanation do we just lay Obama's gaffes at stupidity?

How about when Obama said that Iran was a tiny country that was no real threat to us. I bet he couldn't find it on a map. Just because he went to Harvard doesn't mean anything. He was admitted there and passed along because of affirmative action. He has great speachwriters though and learned to sermonize from Rev. Wright.

Between now and November, Obama will get smarter. McSame will get more confused.
Assuming the GOPpers don't punt him in September, which is a very real liklihood.

"He was admitted there and passed along because of affirmative action."

Yeah, cuz we know a black man could never make it on his own. They always pick someone who isn't too bright to head the Law Review.

OBAMA NEEDS SOME INTERNET VIRTUAL REALITY ON THIS TRIP

Through the wisdom of this Simon logic it could be argued that if Obama had spent even one summer living in the West Bank he would have seen for himself Palestinian homes demolished to make way for Israel's so called "security" wall, that hideous 24 foot high concrete barrier that snakes through Palestinian land, enclosing cities and villages in prisons from which the only escape is a checkpoint manned by Israeli soldiers.
The Democratic candidate will travel to Palestine in a cocoon of security and secret service police, protecting him from attacks from radicals of all sides. Because of this cocoon, he will talk only to Palestinians sanctioned and vetted by his Israeli hosts. It is too late in his political career for him to be "educated" in the existenial realities of occupation.

Ron Paul Gets Bigger Soapbox for Shadow Convention

ABC News' Z. Byron Wolf reports: Ron Paul is not holding his breath for a speaking slot at the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis/St. Paul in September and he has long planned a day-long shadow convention to give him an arena to expound his limited government mantra.
But, worried about the size of his arena, his new political action group--The Campaign for Liberty--has booked a bigger one.

They'll announce today they've changed from the Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota to the much larger Target Center, seating capacity: 18,000.

So FWTHOM do you think Iran is a threat to the United States????

How about when Obama said that Iran was a tiny country that was no real threat to us. I bet he couldn't find it on a map. Just because he went to Harvard doesn't mean anything. I'm never quite sure if you're really this stupid or if you're pulling a Colbert on us.

I going with 'really that stupid' Rasta.

If he were clever, it would show.

Poor Mcsame. his "economic plan" has been proven to be a joke and now even Bush has left him hanging out to dry by ascribing to Obama's foreign polict program. Nobody knows his social policy because he flip flops to suit whoever he is talking to.

"Vote for McCain, forty years ago he used toi be somebody. Even if he doesn't remember it so well himself."

How about when Obama said that Iran was a tiny country that was no real threat to us. I bet he couldn't find it on a map.

According to Mcsame Iran doesn't exist. But Czechoslovakia does. And this is the best of the best of the GOP. No wonder they're bailing from congress.

Just because he went to Harvard doesn't mean anything. He was admitted there and passed along because of affirmative action.

Magna Cum Laude, YOU IDIOT!

McAncient is too damn old to run fer POTUS.

Hell, that senile, snow-capped creep to too old to run period.

And his shabby physical health is only half the problem.

McCain's brain over the primary season has turned into Swiss cheese.

Look into the man's mad eyes.

You can clearly see his mechanism is gone.

Crazy, grumpy, feeble, and angry ole John.

The only thing crazier than John McCain is anybody who still thinks he's worthy of the gig he's running fer.

...war hero Senator John McCain must be doing pretty well.

Case in point.

Be Well.

nobody can be as stupid as FWTHOM seems to be based on his posts, he probably is a left wing hack posing as a right winger to make right wingers look stupid. no other explanation is feasible!

"John McCain said "Iraq" when he apparently meant "Afghanistan" on Monday"

OMG, that's terrible. He is not fit to run. Obama is my man. I want him to be presdient for the next "8-10 years". Shit, he is already president. I know, because I heard his speeches. Screw the election. Let's us just make him king.

OBAMA: Uh, uh, are, uh, uh, uh, um. That's -- that's a bunch -- so -- so let me tick these off. Deh... Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, um, uh. So the issue is not a perception that, uh... Weh, weh, let me put it this way. Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, We're -- we're trying to -- you know, we've got a bipartisan group here and -- and -- and, uh, uh, uh, uh, um, uh, uh, uh.

Huh??? Hmmmm....Is John McCAin a left winger posing as a right winger to make right wingers look stupid???? What??? Bush too??? OMG!!!

Be scared. Be very scared.

I put up a video on the Back Page that makes McCain (in his own words) look like a liar over his claims he was a Bush critic on the Iraq War prosecution.

Geez, I just saw a video of McCain ... is that thing on the left side of his face, at his jawline, getting bigger???? It looks like he is trying to grow a second head! I really don't think this guy is going to make it to the November election.

BREAKING NEWS:

In a daring bid to wrench attention from his Democratic rival in the 2008 presidential race, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) today embarked on an historic first-ever visit to the Internet.

Given that the Arizona Republican had never logged onto the Internet before, advisors acknowledged that his first visit to the World Wide Web was fraught with risk.

McCain aides said that the senator's journey to the Internet will span five days and will take him to such far-flung sites as Amazon.com, eBay and Facebook.

With a press retinue watching, Sen. McCain logged onto the Internet at 9:00 AM Sunday, paying his first-ever visit ever to Mapquest.com.

"I can't get this [expletive] thing to work," Sen. McCain said as he struggled with his computer's mouse, causing his wife Cindy to prompt him to add that he was "just kidding."

Well, my friends, here's the latest.

Today as he was ranting about how Obama wanted to lose the war and how he himself personally won the victory, Gramps McCain became confused and began pontificating about how the surge began BEFORE the Sunni Awakening movement started.

Wrong yet again, foreign policy guru.

Can you Pub guys just throw in the towel or something and save us all the discomfort?

Hell no! It's too much fun watching them piss their panties in desperation, and make up bullshit out of whole cloth!
On a lot of these threads-when the wingers get goin'-it's a laugh RIOT!

The only thing is-they pull some of the oddest things outta their asses....I sometimes wonder how long it's gonna be before one of them bleeds to death because of it.

began pontificating about how the surge began BEFORE the Sunni Awakening movement started.
was that before or after the civil war you claimed was happening? Or was it after "ears" said something to the effect: "The surge will not work".

A muslim running for POTUS??!

I saw a cartoon that PROVED Obama is a muslim.

FACT!!!!

was that before or after the civil war you claimed was happening? Or was it after "ears" said something to the effect: "The surge will not work".

At least you know how to use the HTML italic tag.

Yav earlier you asked me for a link to "ears" saying "The serge won't werk". Hear u go:

www.youtube.com

Yav, just another bullet for you....

www.youtube.com

NIce try. Short video. Easy to watch and understand.

The statement was made after the President's State of the Union. The progress up to that point had been in Al Anbar Province. Al Anbar had started to turn around 4 months before the first of the Surge Troops had been sent to Iraq. As predicted, the violence had spread out from Baghdad to the Provinces North and South. There was no glimmer of political reconciliation at that point. The main reason for the surge.

What CNN reported was "The Obama campaign sent an email saying: Tonight we heard the President say the surge is working, and we know that's just not true."

Not "The serge won't werk."

Not the actual email. Not the context. Nothing but an 18 second Youtube video.

Not a quote from Obama saying "The surge won't work."

Try again? A quote from Obama saying "The surge won't work" as you stated he'd made.

One reason we tend to elect governors is because they have executive experience -- that means making hard decisions.

Senators are natural at compromising (I voted for the war before I voted against it) so anbody in a Legislature over time is going to build up a bunch of seeming gaffes and contradictions.

JFK avoided this by only being a senator a short time. Plus he was handsome

After Osama's been in the Senate another 20 years he'll have a similar record to haunt him.

Obama said that Israel was a friend to Israel. Is that a gaffe?

Let me be absolutely clear,-- Obama said. Israel is a strong friend of Israels. It will be a strong friend of Israels under a McCain government administration. It will be a strong friend of Israels under an Obama administration. So that policy is not going to change.--

LOL

If I had three jig-saw puzzle maps of the world I would challenge Obama and McCain to see which of us could put theirs together the quickest. I would win because I love geography so I should be POTUS. I even know where Andora is.

Yav, the second link i provided gives you what you asked for.

And yes the awakening began b4 the surge, but given Obama's plan, the initial sheik who asked the US for protection, would have been murdered. The surge provided the security for the awakening to occur. You can parse words, but that is a fact.

Obama's actual words in 2007.

"We cannot impose a military solution on what has effectively become a civil war. And until we acknowledge that reality, uh, we can send 15,000 more troops; 20,000 more troops; 30,000 more troops. Uh, I don't know any, uh, expert on the region or any military officer that I've spoken to, uh, privately that believes that that is gonna make a substantial difference on the situation on the ground."

But as a result of the surge, there was no civil war. And he said He would not support it and later said the serge has failed.

The surge wouldn't have worked had it not been for Sunni tribal leaders getting bricks of cash, and Sadr pulling back his militia.

The one with the BEST judgment was the one who said it was a bad idea invading Iraq in the first place.

The surge wouldn't have worked had it not been for Sunni tribal leaders getting bricks of cash, and Sadr pulling back his militia.
your opinion.

The one with the BEST judgment was the one who said it was a bad idea invading Iraq in the first place.
your opinion.

MIDTOWN

Obviously it is my opinion. But, it is shared by a vast majority of Americans.

We invaded because of nonexistent WMD's, or am I delusional? Isn't that what we heard for months? "Looming mushroom clouds", "Imminent threat", and the like.

So, yes, we didn't need to invade.

There was no Al Qaeda/Iraq until we did. There were also a million Christians who worshiped freely. A few hundred thousand Iraqis who were alive who aren't now. A couple million less refugees. 4000 less dead Americans. 30,000 less Americans forever changed from wounds.

The surge and training of the Iraqi militiary had much to do with Al Sadr pulling back his militia:

www.washingtonpost.com

BAGHDAD, March 30 -- Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr ordered his followers Sunday to lay down their arms and end six days of clashes against U.S. and Iraqi forces if the government agrees to release detainees and give amnesty to Sadr's fighters, among other demands. But after the statement, mortar attacks continued in Baghdad and Basra, and violence persisted in many pockets of the country.

Sadr Tells His Militia To Cease Hostilities
On a Baghdad Street, Palpable Despair
Ali al-Dabbagh, a spokesman for the government, described Sadr's statement as a "positive step," but he said Iraqi security forces would continue to try to bring order to Basra, a southern oil center. A government offensive there against militias triggered clashes across southern Iraq and in Baghdad last week. Iraqi forces "will finish the job," Dabbagh said.

As far as your other contention about money being given to the Sunni leaders:

But while the anti-American sheiks in Anbar and Al Qaeda both opposed the Americans, their goals were different. The sheiks were part of a relatively moderate front that sought to drive the Americans out of Iraq; some were also fighting to restore Sunni Arab power. But Al Qaeda wanted to go even further and impose a fundamentalist Islamic state in Anbar, a plan that many of the sheiks did not share.

Al Qaedas fighters began to use killing, intimidation and financial coercion to divide the tribes and win support for their agenda. They killed about 210 people in the Abu Ali Jassem tribe alone and kidnapped others, demanding ransoms as high as $65,000 per person, Sheik Badawie said.

For all the sheiks hostility toward the Americans, they realized that they had a bigger enemy, or at least one that needed to be fought first, as a matter of survival.

The council sought financial and military support from the Iraqi and American governments. In return the sheiks volunteered hundreds of tribesmen for duty as police officers and agreed to allow the construction of joint American-Iraqi police and military outposts throughout their tribal territories.

So McCain has problems with the teleprompter

And Obama can't talk without it.

Go figure..

Obama says the surge is not responsible for the conditions on the ground today.

Makes for a great commercial from the RNC.

He can't bring himself to give a little credit where credit is due--To the Troops.

And Obama repeats what is said by Maliki--

There is only one negotiator from the US--and it ain't Obama.

As what will be crystal clear when Petraous and Bush and Maliki get the agreement in place for residual forces for the bases in Iraq before the election.

Obama even used the word "DRAWDOWN" instead of "withdrawal" in his paparazzi blow down with the press.

ANd Obama--what if you pull out every soldier and the place goes to hell in a handbag--what would you do?

"Oh I will send in the troops again".

The man has no core and is not a thinker--great on speeches though. He must have a teleprompter.

That's why he flipped flopped on the townhall meetings with McCain.

AND Obama only went with the vote against the Iraq war because of his constituents--the left leaning south district people of Chicago. Political expediency is the name of the game for Obama.

Who is behind this guy besides the Daley machine??

MURPHY

-You said you voted for Gore.

-You said you voted for Hillary.

You listen to right wing radio.

Either you don't like black people or you were less than truthful about the first two.

Which is it?

Watch the linked video and compare McCain's words about Iraq 2002-now

Tell us who's being truthful about Iraq. Tell us who said he was a critic of Bush's prosecution of the war. Tell us who was wrong about the need to invade in the first place.

speaking of Cartoons...

AMERICANUNITY,

I watched the video, it was terrible. It jumped around mixing years instead keeping a straight timeline. It was terrible and is a perfect example of what is wrong with politics today. McCain did have an issue with how the war was being run but didn't see it the same way Obama did. He was calling for more troops in Iraq for a long time before they sent them in. Just because he didn't say withdraw from Iraq doesn't mean he was in complete agreement with Bush. Bush was resisting putting in more troops.

Bush was stuck on his stay the course line even when it wasn't working.

LAJ

I questioned why Mccain wasn't questioning the very need for us to invade.

I have more questions about McCain's intentions than just his judgment on the Iraq War.

His close association with Phil Gramm, his current economic advisor and proposed Secretary of the Treasury, tells me that McCain's domestic policy is designed to continue the downward spiral of America's economic crisis.

Phil Gramm is a menace. Read this:

PHIL GRAMM FORECLOSING ON AMERICA

There's more going on here than just doubts about McCain's mental stability.

McCain's statements about his great love of country belies his actions. Case in point ~ PHIL GRAMM!

OBAMA GAFFES:

57 states? There are 57 Islamic states.

Sioux Falls, S.D. vs Sioux City Iowa.

Thinks Arkansas borders Kentucky.

Wants to be president for 8 to 10 years!!

"We are the people we've been waiting for"?

"Learn French." Obama speaks no foreign languages himself.

"I'm surprised at how finely calibrated every single word was measured. I wasn't saying anything I hadn't said before, that I didn't say a year ago or when I WAS a United States senator,"

Selma march took place in 1965 and said that was when he was born? It was 1961...your birthday...1961.

Thinks Afghanis speak Arabic or Kurdish, they dont.

Iran doesn't pose a serious threat to us-- tiny countries-- with small defense budgets cant do us harm.

He claimed that tornadoes in Kansas killed a 10,000 people.

Spelled out his plans for Afghanistan and Iraq PRIOR to his trip. Has only been to Iraq once in the last 3 years. Truly an armchair politician.

Says he was raised with "values straight from the Kansas heartland," though he grew up in Hawaii.

He claims to have passed three bills, but fails to mention that two were in the Illinois state Senate and that he didn't vote on the third in the U.S. Senate.

And the very best one of the all:

My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it."

Obama, you can keep the change.

McCain Gets History Of The Surge Wrong, CBS Doesn't Air Footage

During a CBS interview on Tuesday, John McCain made a stone cold error on a subject about which he claims expert knowledge: the "surge" strategy in Iraq. In an interview with anchor Katie Couric, the Arizona Republican said, inaccurately, that the surge strategy was responsible for the much-touted "Anbar Awakening," in which Sunni sheiks turned against Al Qaeda, helping in turn to reduce violence in the country.

From the transcript:

Katie Couric: Senator McCain, Senator Obama says, while the increased number of US troops contributed to increased security in Iraq, he also credits the Sunni awakening and the Shiite government going after militias. And says that there might have been improved security even without the surge. What's your response to that?

McCain: I don't know how you respond to something that is as-- such a false depiction of what actually happened. Colonel MacFarland was contacted by one of the major Sunni sheiks. Because of the surge we were able to go out and protect that sheik and others. And it began the Anbar awakening. I mean, that's just a matter of history.

In fact. . .the record firmly establishes the opposite: instead of being caused by the surge, the key signs of the Anbar Awakening occurred not only before that strategy was implemented, but before it was ever conceived.

Yet McCain's error was not seen by any CBS Evening News viewers. As MSNBC's Keith Olbermann noted, "CBS curiously, to say the least, left it on the edit room floor. It aired Katie Couric's question, but in response, it aired part of McCain's answer to the other question instead." (Ironically, this edit came on the same day that McCain's campaign released a video mocking the media's "love affair" with Obama.)

The fact remains, however, that the military official cited by McCain. . .described the Anbar Awakening in September 2006 -- four months before the "surge" was even announced. . . .
www.huffingtonpost.com

But he's boffo in Czechoslovakia.

I'd like to say that McCain is just Nuckin' Futs but that doesn't even begin to explain the soap job he's selling.

I put up a video on the Back Page that makes McCain (in his own words) look like a liar

He does not need to "look" like a liar. He is one.

Pathological liar or batshit senile.

Or a lot of both?

Give him the gaff.

Sometimes I wonder if those were just gaffes though or embarassing ignorance.

Posted by fwthom

Funny that you would have trouble with this, since you are an expert at both.

In fact. . .the record firmly establishes the opposite: instead of being caused by the surge, the key signs of the Anbar Awakening occurred not only before that strategy was implemented, but before it was ever conceived.
The surge was what allowed the Anbar awakening to become reality. The first shiek to approach the US forces for assistance had to have a tank to guard his house. There were not enough troops to offer security. Once the troops arrived, many other shieks and others leaders followed. Remember, it was all part of general 'betraus's plan.

I would win because I love geography so I should be POTUS. I even know where Andora is.

Is that Andora the witch, Samantha's mom??? or is it Andorra the country? FW, thanks for reaffirming your idiocy.

what is obama's gaffe count

iran is not a threat, oh yes it is. oh thats a flip flop

um, oh yeah, i have come on this tour to meet with the people i will be dealing with over the next 8-10 years.

Forget the issue of when the Awakening started, the real question is below.

If it was the troops of the central govt of Iraq who first worked with the Awakening instead of the American troops, do you really think it would have been this successful?

Note: Maliki didn't want to even work with these groups in the beginning. He didn't support the American effort and actually complained about it.

What McCain omits is that if he himself had been right all the times before 2007 that he said things were going fine, no surge would have been needed. He's like a weatherman who forecasts clear skies every day and, when the rain finally lets up after a week, expects a standing ovation for his accuracy.
