Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

U.S. military leaders and everyday Iraqis think that cleric Muqtada al Sadr's order to his followers is a key reason for the dramatic fall in violence. The universal fear is what will happen if the freeze ends. Sadr's motives remain an enigma to many Iraqis, even his followers. The result is angst over much of Iraq, despite the improved security.

Violence will continue to be down as long as taxpayer cash keeps going to Al Sadr.

Keep on believing that the "serge" was a success though.

Why fight to the death during this election cycle.

Things might change for the better. Obama may decide we have no business forcing an oil sharing agreement down anyones throat with big guns.

Otherwise, the fighting will resume.

Funny how the Right is hanging it ALL on the so-called "surge".

Obama was wrong because he didn't support the "surge". But, Obama didn't support the war why would he support a fake surge?

The surge was a farce to begin with. A delaying TACTIC designed to put off Congress and the American people long enough to make sure Bush could push his agenda thru the Iraqi parliament.

What was that agenda? Why the OIL revenue bill of course, giving the OIL to the AMERICAN OIL companies. Which I believe was passed.

He also was trying to get them to sign off on the 50 year leases for the American bases which last I checked the Iraqi's balked at as interference in their national sovereignty.

The "surge" (which was really just a numbers game) was only able to work because Sadr and his troops were paid off to keep quiet. Stop apying them and then tell them we will be there for 100 years and see what happens.

I don't care how many troops you surge into the country the violence will increase. IT IS THE NATURE OF THE BEAST.

And really, The so-called "surge" is only a strategy not an actual foriegn policy isn't it? We would have not seen the need for a "surge" had we had someone with Obama's Leadership skill in the White House when we needed it now would we?

His forces have takn a prety serious pounding over the last six months. He has also lost a lot of percieved power by having US/Iraqi troops move into Sadr City and set up little combat outposts.

He is licking his wounds and waiting on the next move.

"I invented al sadr!"

John Mcsame

al sadr has what he wants. al maliki wants the foreign troops out as much as he does. Afterwards, he'll stand on the deck of a camel carrier and proclaim "allah's Mission Accomplished".

He is licking his wounds and waiting on the next move.

Sadr has no wounds. He told his people to stop, they stopped. He was not affected one bit by the 'surge'. He actually was affected more by the politics of the surge than the surge itself.

Look for a civil war, coming to an oil field near you, when we leave, and we must leave.

And the blood of that war will be on Bush's (which means big oil) hands too.

Oops I may have to... I asked Googleman... he say it is still stalled...

Bushco, mission not accomplished?

From the article:

"Sadr's motives remain an enigma to many Iraqis, even his followers".

Really? His motives are a mystery? I'd be willing to bet they hinge on money and power......just a guess.

And the blood of that war will be on Bush's (which means big oil) hands too.

I am sure they all are losing sleep at night over it too.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

What Bush got was a temporary oil sharing agreement.

Like the fucking war, I'm sure the agreement cost US taxpayers triple fair market value for an equal quantity of oil (in bribes alone).

Violence is down in Iraq because
Al Sadr is murdering less people.

3 cheers for Al Sadr:

1. eat shit
2. fuck off
3. die

LOL!

The Left will give ANYONE credit for America's success in Iraq EXCEPT the men who were largely responsible for getting it done... George Bush & John McCain.

Face facts, loser, Obama is and always has been just another loser Democratic surrender monkey.

"Sadr has no wounds" LOL he has lost between 1000 and 2000 of his core fighters killed(depends on whoses numbers you want to use) of a 10,000 man force.

If I lost 10-20 percent of my guys dead, I'd be concerned. But then I'm not a power hungery egomaniac.

Trooper, I know relatively little about Sadr other than he has created headaches for the U.S. ever since the invasion. Why do you call him a "power hungry egomaniac"?

Face facts, loser, Obama is and always has been just another loser Democratic surrender monkey.

6. The SURGE is Working

Farmer_John,

"The Left will give ANYONE credit for America's success in Iraq EXCEPT the men who were largely responsible for getting it done... George Bush & John McCain"

I agree that the "surge" has been successful and I will give credit to McCain for being ahead of the curve on it but not Bush. He took way too long to change course in Iraq. It was pretty clear that his original approach wasn't working but refused to change it. The professionalism of the American soldiers gets most of the credit.

"The Left will give ANYONE credit for America's success in Iraq EXCEPT the men who were largely responsible for getting it done... George Bush & John McCain"

I guess the TROOPS had nothing to do with it?

The surge is Bushshit. The Generals wanted more troops all along. Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld did not listen to them until it was (almost) too late.

www.nytimes.com

McCain and Bush were both years too late calling for more troops.

It is not about more or less troops anyway. It is about the judgment needed to keep something like this from happening again.

McCain doesn't have a fucking clue in that department.
