my husband is eight years younger than i - we're going into our twentieth year together. he always says, "i wish you'd been one of my babysitters..." yeah, he's nutz!

older man/younger woman - from my own experience in that area - those relationships aren't built to last.

Tend to agree with you, Nanc. I've been married mucho years. We're close in age, so I don't have your perspective on this. However, when I was (much) younger I was spent some time with an older woman and learned a lot. Sexually, sure, but otherwise as well. I've watched the older guy-younger woman thing, and while the sexual attraction for the guy is clearly there what the hell do they talk about?

'zactly! funny you should mention that as i dated a much older wealthy man in my younger dayz and he would say to me, "ANYTHING you want just name it and it's yours!" i'd reply that there was nothing i really wanted and he'd insist, so i'd say something like, "okay, there is ONE thing i've had on my mind lately..." him, "WHATEVER IT IS JUST NAME IT!" so i'd say something like, "well, i'd really like to get an ice cream cake from baskin and robbins and go to my folks house and share it." or "could we go to the drive-in and watch romeo and juliet?"

i thought to myself - this old fart will be dead in about ten years and then what?

well, that was about 30 years ago and he's still kickin' - in his late eighties now! i cannot imagine cozying up to that - i don't care how much more wealthy he's become - there're some things money cannot buy.

Well, the money does come in handy now and then. I've known a few people with plenty of it who seem to be enjoying themselves. Then again, I've known far more folks with oodles of geedis who are miserable, obsessive, totally scewed up wankers.

Personally, I don't believe age really matters. What matters is compatibility, being a compliment to each others lives.

I've seen Jane's health deteriorate (cancer, fibromyalgia, arthritis, chronic fatigue, drug induced weight gain, etc) such that the main thing I've tried to focus on is Christian love and the vows I made to her - the sickness/health sort of stuff.

Sounds like your Jane was either very lucky or very wise in her choice, Oohrah.

May whatever you believe in be with you for what have to be some painful times.

Don't know what your wife health struggles are about at all, but have you see this?

Hard to say, DOC. We work with the hand we're dealt in many cases. There's not a whole lot of choice involved when it comes to one's health. She doesn't smoke, rarely drinks, but her health makes it difficult to exercise much at all without being wiped out. It's been frustrating for both of us because I'm in very good shape ... so to an extent physically we no longer look like we belong together as a couple.

You know... you look at some random guy and you typically a similarly looking female. That's not the case with us. I know it sounds egotistical but it's the reality.

My father cheated on my mother for many years and I always said I wouldn't do the same. So far that's been the case. Been tempted on more than one occasion - but that's such a huge hurdle for me.

There's a guy in our church in his early fifties... he looks great. His mother married a guy his age many years ago. Now that's weird. I's say she's in her late 60's and her husband's in her 50's. And they have a son in his early 20's. Hard to imagine.

My aunt (who died in the 90's) was bedridden for years with multiple sclerosis. It came upon her very early in life -- her late 20's. She steadily worsened over the years but was only put into a nursing home by my uncle when he could no longer take care of her properly in their home but that didn't happen until the last years of her life.

My uncle, even today in his 70's, is a nice looking guy but in his younger years was drop dead handsome -- about 6'2", dark haired, nice deep voice. After he got off his full time job, he sang and played stand-up bass on the weekends with an Irish band at different pubs and bars in the New Jersey area. He had plenty of opportunities to mess around and, because of his good looks and being in a bar type scene, women were always flirting with him. Yet was never unfaithful to my aunt and NEVER complained about having to care for her either even though I'm sure as younger man back then he had to have been tempted many times.

Guys like my uncle are rare gems. Women seem to be the ones who are more willing to accept, stay with, and care for their spouse when a serious illness affects their marriage much more so than men. Maybe because women are the nurturers, I don't know.

But divorcing their spouse (or being unfaithful) certainly isn't the case with all men when a serious illness hits. My uncle is one example. Oohrah is another. When your marriage is really put to the test that's when you find out the kind of man -- or woman -- you have chosen.

For me anyway, knowing I "could" have other women is enough of an ego boost. And it's not like Jane's in a coma or non-ambulatory.

Of course I can date Rosie any night - she's always handy. ;^O

I've never wandered myself in almost 22 years of marriage. A few minutes of extracurricular fun just wouldn't be worth how I'd feel about myself.

I'm trying to figure out why these are tips for dating older women. Do younger women object to being treated with respect and listened to, to having fun on dates, etc. etc.?
