Phyllosilicates, a class of hydrous mineral first definitively identified on Mars by the OMEGA (Observatoire pour la Mineralogie, L'Eau, les Glaces et l'Activiti) instrument1, 2, preserve a record of the interaction of water with rocks on Mars.

We expand the diversity of phyllosilicate mineralogy with the identification of kaolinite, chlorite and illite or muscovite, and a new class of hydrated silicate (hydrated silica). We observe diverse Fe/Mg-OH phyllosilicates and find that smectites such as nontronite and saponite are the most common, but chlorites are also present in some locations. Stratigraphic relationships in the Nili Fossae region show olivine-rich materials overlying phyllosilicate-bearing units, indicating the cessation of aqueous alteration before emplacement of the olivine-bearing unit.

I already knew that.

Is everyone as impressed as I am tha zat can cut and paste big words?

Since words seem to scare you,

No, they don't scare me. Apparently you can't comprehend them, though. I asked if anyone was impressed, not that I was frightened.

Speaking of worrds, I misspelled a coouple for you. If you are nice, I'll give you some more later.

(sic) 'em, boy!

"I asked if anyone was impressed"

And you got your answer.

And you got your answer.

LOL

Well, it is a good thing those smectites are being studied robotically - they don't sound to be very appealing.

I love NASA. I'm still angry about the Challenger, but that was Reagan's fault.

It is so cool to be alive in the space age.

???

It was the fault of the engineers of Morton Thiokol who said the O-rings were safe at the low temperatures at the time of launch. I really don't remember Reagan having any input into whether that mission was go/no go, but I would gladly view a link that indicates otherwise.

Leave it to Zat to post a trade article only a geologist could understand instead of posting the media article. I doubt he understands the geology language himself.

I doubt he understands the geology language himself.

He may understand it, (I don't think he does, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt) but when he posts it he is really saying, "I understand this and if you don't, you are a dumb shit" which is a very arrogant attitude.

BTW, Ray -- did you see this stunt he pulled yesterday? He took some numbers in post of mine, edited them make them erroneous, then quoted it as if it was my original then basically called me an idiot for doing inaccurate math

I do not think I have ever seen such a pathetic attempt by anyone to boost his own ego.

Goat

I used to ask him all the time to explain global warming in his own words. He won't do it. I don't expect any different here.

Yes you have him nailed. He has this pathetic need to boost his ego. He's a phony.

Wet Sand in Space

Ray, Goat,

I totally agree. He can be interesting at times but the arrogance and condescending nature is annoying.

And I loved the (sic) 'em, boy!

That is funny.
