Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

LA Times Editorial:

Obama's campaign is deeply worried about the legions of morons who they apparently believe make up the heart of this great nation. Obama spokesman Bill Burton helpfully interpreted the sensibilities of these uneducated masses when he said Monday, "Most readers will see [the cover] as tasteless and offensive."

I also thought that this was germane:

Also offended by all the tastelessness was Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard C. Parks, a fervent Obamaphile, who went on CNN on Monday to call for a boycott of this week's issue of the magazine. What Parks, Burton and myriad critics across the blogosphere agree on is that, yes, people who subscribe to the New Yorker are probably smart enough to understand the concept of satire, but the issue will be seen by clueless people at newsstands nationwide -- and they will come to the dangerous conclusion that, well, some artist hired by the New Yorker thinks Obama is a Muslim, his wife is a terrorist, he uses the American flag for kindling and he'd put a portrait of Osama bin Laden in the Oval Office. It's terrifying to imagine the impact this might have on the campaign.
Without wading into the 500+ post nonsense of the main thread, I tend to agree that Obama and his campaign would be better served by embracing this cover, recognizing the satire for what it is and using it to foment a usefull discussion of how absurd these attacks are.

By getting proxies to attack it, it does make you wonder how the Obamaites are going to respond when the dreaded Rovian Attack Machine gears up.

**** Cover: Obamaites concerned about morons ****

.......and well they should be.........

.......there are entire trailer parks of Ozzie-alike thinkers out there.......

Says the moron that believes Obama voted against the war.

C'mon 101, doncha know that if you preface your comments with multiple ellipsis that means that you are not only a deep thinker but all knowing as well?

101 the booger bandit and toilet seat pisser?
No one could have anticipated...

"the legions of morons who they apparently believe make up the heart of this great nation"

You know them. They voted for Bush. Twice.

I bet 0bama's minion hopes those legions of morons vote for his messiah cause its the only hope he has of winning in November.

But I kinda doubt that's gonna happen as the tide has started turning against 0bama and by by October he'll be hopelessly floundering in a unforgiving sea once the average Democrat realizes "hope" ain't gonna pay the rent, put food on the table or keep our enemies out of our hair.

It's so refreshing for the LA Turds and Obama's campaign to refer to Americans as morons and uneducated and clueless..

Makes ya' vote for him--right?

And the only reason Obama came out with his anti war statement was to appease his constituents.

He had to say that or risk losing his job.

He is the epitamy of political expendiency.

Look it up and there's Obama's face...

" Americans as morons and uneducated and clueless.."

Sorry to rain on your two-bit parade, but those same morons are the ones that Obama is counting on for his election as POTUS, which is why his campaign is "deeply worried" about them.

both candidates are counting on "those same morons." you're kidding yourself if you deny there are many, many citizens who will cast their votes based on a cartoon, what cousin Jasper says, or what Scarlett Johannson told E!.

" or what Scarlett Johannson told E!."

Are you gay? I'd do anything Scarlett Johannson asked me to do.

Morons? You mean Republicans or the residents of the Good Ole South?

me, too. Cousin Jasper, on the other hand... he's a fucking idiot.

Morons? You mean Republicans or the residents of the Good Ole South?

No, sadly, Keith, we are talking about you.

Sorry for the confusion.

ROC watch out for possible trademerk infringement when using "Obamy" please...you are dangerously close to using "Obammy"

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

......so he stood up and represented his constituents......isn't that democracy ?......

......would you have preferred that he represented the interests of Big Oil or Halliburton ?.......

South = morons huh?

Actually, keith the douche, the southern voters, in particular the southern white male voters (which are mostly independent) have made the biggest difference so far. Every one else voted the way they were predicted to vote. Without them, hillary would be the nominee.

The other southern white male voters (not to be confused with the KKK because the KKK is much more gentle and humanitarian) would vote for a retarded chimpanzee if he had republican attached to his name. Especially if that republican could make them believe that he mainlines jesus.

Much the same way blue state (which is another way to say unemployed) voters would vote for anybody that makes them believe they can get something for nothing.

as the tide has started turning against 0bama

Where? He's up in all the polls and McSame just keeps getting more senile.

No one ever went broke, I think it was H.L. Mencken who noted, under-estimating the intelligence of the American public.

They don't relate to middle American trailer park sophistication out there in the rarified New Yorker air. They don't understand that the sham paratroopers, Murphies and RisRs think satire is a cloven-hoofed little guy playing a pipe in the woods.

Luckily most of the people who might take that New Yorker cover seriously don't read the New Yorker. It was frigginbrilliant, but let's move on. herm

Actually, that's the sad part. Without the context of the article, that image is all that people will remember. Especially if you know nothing about the New Yorker.

It was frigginbrilliant, but let's move on. herm

The New Yorker is a rag read only by granola munching elitists who think that their intelligence level is so superior to the rest of the country that they can "satire" a presidential candidate and his wife with caricatures which would be deemed offensive if found anywhere but a liberal fish rap.

Luckily the cover will backfire on the Old Yorker and cause more people to consider the representation true. HERMIE of course considers "Dumb and Dumber" classic comedy so his opinion on satirical brilliance should be filed where it belongs - in the circular receptacle.

I thought what this comedian had to say was spot on....

The New Yorker is a rag read only by granola munching elitists

Actually it is usually a good read. That's where I picked up on John McPhee and other a few other outstanding writers. But if I had a current subscription I'd cancel it because the cover wasn't satire, it was stupid.
