Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The Belgian company InBev has reached a $52 billion deal with Anheuser-Busch to purchase the American beermaker for $70 per share, which upon shareholder approval will create Anheuser-Busch InBev -- a brewing colossus controlling a quarter of the world's beer market.

As a St. Louisian this is a big disappointment. AB has been a great corporate citizen to the region. It's pretty clear from Inbev's track record that is not likely to continue.

The dollar is losing value fast and great buys can be had for foreigners. Foreigners now realize they have to convert their dollars into tangible goods before the dollar has no buying power.

Budweiser tastes like piss anyway.

So John McSame's balls are now property of a foreign company? There's a surprise.

Of course, as a proud American, he will speak out against this globalization of an American icon. That would be a surprise.

FLUNKY FACT!

So you want the gov't to prevent a business from selling or buying?

I don't expect the government to try to block it but I suspect Missouri official will make an attempt to do so.

As for my perspective, AB is now just one more company I won't be buying from. I don't buy much of their product anyway, prefer Schlafly's, but now I will totally avoid them.

Congrats to A-B investors who stood by the company, put up their cash and are now reaping the rewards.

And they are cashing out before Osama can punish them through raising the capital gains taxes; punish them for being wise. Most of the money will now move to capitalize other American businesses, that create jobs.

Investors are watching the polls, and the beter Osama does the greater the incentive to cash out and move the money somewhere else before he can confiscate it.

If Osama wins the money will just remain stagnant (as will the economy) until the taxes are back down to where they ought to be.

I'm sure whatever you wrote was interesting Vernon but I stop reading anytime you sink to attacking a person's name. What are you, 6 years old?

Calling Budweiser an American icon is akin to calling a MacDonald's hamburger the height of American culinary expertise. And Verm is a complete whack-job.

Budweiser tastes like piss anyway.

Posted by Ray

Tastes like piss but it sure gets those garden slugs.
In fact the piss taste factor is desirable.

It must be all that Budweiser taste but I'd rather be drinking it than having it sprayed on by "hand".

As a friend once said, "It's better to be pissed off than pissed on" by John Bowan-photographer/writer Lions Drag Strip.

Most of the money will now move to capitalize other American businesses, that create jobs.

While In-Bev disposes of the "redundant" workforce in St Louis.

Do you ever tire of shilling for corporations?

"And they are cashing out before Osama can punish them through raising the capital gains taxes; punish them for being wise. Most of the money will now move to capitalize other American businesses, that create jobs."

Someone is going to have to raise taxes in order to pay for your fucking war, idiot.

Vernon must be the kind of guy who all the sudden has alligator arms when the dinner check arrives.

This just goes to prove again that America and Americans are for sale to the highest bidder. Like nasty little hookers with a drug habit, we'll fuck anyone as long as we get the money to continue our addictions.

I can't wait until the 'redneck back-lash' on Budwieser. Then when they have to drink something else, they will discover that Nascar is not actually a religion.

"This just goes to prove again that America and Americans are for sale to the highest bidder."

Budweiser is not America. Budweiser is a private corporation owned by its shareholders. Any American equity firm could have gathered enough money to make a better offer and "keep Budweiser owned by Americans" if that really mattered in the long run. It doesn't. Miller has been owned by overseas companies for years. The beer is still brewed here, and many of the corporate jobs still are.

I don't see what the big deal is about this. The shareholders were offered money and they took it.

I lost all respect for AB (the little I had) when they bought out Rolling Rock. They had the balls to close the Rolling Rock brewery in Latrobe, yet still keep the same "from the glass lined tanks of old latrobe" motto on the bottles.

I don't see what the big deal is about this. The shareholders were offered money and they took it.

Well when In-Bev starts cutting jobs (I know plenty of people who work their who now do the job of 2 other works who were "rightsized" basically for 60-70 hours per week) why should the shareholders receive preferential capital gains treatments?

The fallacy of lower capital gains treatments "creates" jobs would fly in the face of what actually happens here.

"the sale will end a run of independence that stretches back to before the Civil War."

When Budweiser stole the name from the Czechs. The Czechs should be almost happy that at least the name is back on The Continent and out of the hands of the barbarians.

Nice attempt at spin, Vernon.

But do try again.

Thanks Vernon. I will happily take my 150% profit on my Budweiser stock, and I will also work hard to make sure Obama become President. You just don't get that greed is not all that motivates some of us, do you?

Most of the money will now move to capitalize other American businesses, that create jobs.

Yeah, right, Vernon. Your calculator tell you that?

Watch the money move offshore as Bush continues to sink the dollar and the economy.
600,000 jobs lost this year and the cuts keep on coming.

for Budweiser users: as long as they dont change a fuckin thing about where and how it is brewed (which would be fuckin crazy) everything is gonna work out fine.

on another note : who the fuck invests in AB anyways? what a bore
(except for this week, or course) But in the long term, what a fuckin bore.

"on another note : who the fuck invests in AB anyways?"

Cindy McCain?

Vernon, Joe and Fredo C are not worried about what this sale signals. They see no trend. They also are not concerned that virtually every product is now manufactured in China, that call centers are based in India, that the dollar has sunk to levels never imagined, that the price of oil is fueling inflation on everything, and that the entire U.S. financial system is teetering near collapse.

La-dee-dah. Just another day on Wall Street!
(Hey, what's that burning smell?)

As for my perspective, AB is now just one more company I won't be buying from. I don't buy much of their product anyway, prefer Schlafly's, but now I will totally avoid them.

I couldn't agree more. Schlafly's is a superior product. Schlafly's Tap Room is a great place to eat (and drink), too.

Budweiser is not an American Icon. It's not Belgian, or even German. It's Czech brew, one of the finest pilsners you can buy. Oh wait, this is about the abomination of a drink made with corn starch and rice and god knows what... THAT stuff, which should be called Buttwiper, really is an American Icon. So is McDonald's.

And Verm really is a twit.

Anyway, how long before the last American firm gets bought up by the rest of the world? Who's up next?

"They see no trend. They also are not concerned that virtually every product is now manufactured in China"

Blah blah blah. Miller was sold years ago and their beer is still brewed in the united states. I'll be the first to admit that the dollar is in the shitter which makes it ideal for foreigners to buy interests in American companies and exports, but to pretend as though the sky is falling when a brewery gets bought out is typical liberal whining.

Boulevard is now the number one brewer based in Missouri. As it should be.

So you want the gov't to prevent a business from selling or buying?

So you'd be perfectly happy if the Chinese bought Lockheed-Martin?

so we can expect the Budweiser clydesdales will go to the slaughter house and be replaced by Belgian draft horses?
and the Dalmation by a malinois?

On the bright side, with the profits flowing out of the country, every time you drink a Bud, someone in Brussels sprouts.

This might be a great boost for all the new micro-breweries.

Just a thought.

Are all you hillbillies, rednecks and sister-fuckers still going to be guzzling that swill known as Budweiser? .....now that 'King of Shit Beers' that is a European beer.

Imagine your fellow rednecks knowing you were drinking Budweiser, some 'Foo-foo' liberal beer made/owned by a bunch of commies in Europe.

Whatever will you incestuous, trailer-park turds do to get up the courage before smacking your wife around the double-wide?

'Tis a sad day in dixie!

Yeah, it's no Zima or Bartles and James, right commondense?

Just a thought, many of the people who firmly believe the US should use military force to responds to threats to our business interests in the middle east (i.e. oil) are the same who support what could be viewed as a foreign invasion that threatens our business interests here at home. They see no problem with multinationals sending US jobs out of the country even if the results are a weakening US economy and security. They sing the praises of free trade when it comes to dollars, jobs and products crossing borders but cry out when the people doing the labor freely cross borders.

Why is that?

fukkin rice beer tastes like piss...bloats like a menopausal woman...and only has 4%alc volume...might as well drink lite beer

Consolidate and raise prices, consolidate and raise prices.....

War, deficits, skyrocketing energy costs and falling dollar lead to an accelerating selloff of US assets. Don't expect anything from Social Security and don't worry, Tom Delay has a job for you on the Marshall Islands. You might even be able to buy a Bud there.

..then Vernon and others chime in that the economy will stagnate if Obama wins and this downturn is because the Democrats took over Congress. As if the economic collapse engineered most recently by Shrub and his partners in crime, such as Phil Graham, had nothing to do with it.

The collapse of the US economy is a consequence of adherence to "Free Market Theory", otherwise known as DEREGULATION. Every change invites FRAUD, which is extremely difficult to prove, when the accussed is rich and powerful.

Well I do not care for Bud, But it is sad to see it go. They will probably cut hundreds of jobs ann I am sure it will be just a mental recession for those people. Take a little Prozac and watch your bank account and 401K grow

They sing the praises of free trade when it comes to dollars, jobs and products crossing borders but cry out when the people doing the labor freely cross borders.

Why is that?

Correct me if I am wrong... Do we not import far and far away more jobs than we export???

+1 for Schlafly's brew, almost as tastey as Blvd Brew Co.

MO still has great beer, in fact the quality level just went up several notches.

Will Auggie still be trolling the titty infested waters of the party cove in his house boat now that every red neck has it out for him for selling out an American Icon. What next, the Japs take control of MLB!

Only a fucking idiot like Vermin would not see the writing on the wall, that the great nation of America is being dismantled piece by piece.

Yeah, it's no Zima or Bartles and James, right commondense?

Wouldn't know about either of them Man-Teats.

I always thought those were the drinks of you closeted 'limp-wristers'.

CNN poll

Would you stop drinking Budweiser if a Belgian company owned it?
Yes 20% 30853
No 25% 38739
I don't drink Budweiser 55% 83841

Carlton, Chang, Shiner ... now those are beers.

20% loss is more than enough for even the most successful publicly traded company to axe their entire board.

But who care's? Give me a Black Butte or Sierra Nevada Porter any day, or a real hoppy IPA on a super hot day.

Why couldn't we lose Bud to a German or Japanese brewer? Belgium?? D'OH!!

How much money did Cindy McCain make on this deal today?

Wouldn't it be funny if they pulled her distributorship and put her out of business.

If Missouri didn't want this deal than the new company should move from St. Louis. I know they won't but I have a vivid imagination.

The Belgians are gonna cry foul after McCain follows through on his pledge to veto every single beer.

politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com

Is this really relevant. I mean who the hell cares if in-bev buys that nasty beer anayway. Just 20% of the inbreeds let them eat cake

Yes 20% 30853
No 25% 38739
I don't drink Budweiser 55% 83841 +1

Wow Geeksucks, way to cut and paste Zat's post!
Lemme guess, you and your"boys" love a cold zima.

Hopefully the first thing the new owners do is shitcan the bilge Anheuser Busch produces under their various brand names. They should be ashamed to call it beer.

Budweiser was/is the company name of a Czec beer company that pre-dates American Budweiser by about 75 years!

WOW ITSME WTF is Zima some kinda girly drink you have knowledge of? I dont run with "boys" thats for fags like YOU. If you got your head out of ZAT's ass you would see the stats are posted @ cnn EOMDA

I like Belgian beers in general. Now I like a smaller percentage of their beers. Michelob Amber Bock is some good stuff when I'm not drinking Goose Island or some microbrewed tastiness.

Well you wont catch me drink a Budwieser product ever again. I and I drink my share of beer. and your share, and your share, and your share and YOUR share. I now i aint the only one on this.

Red Stripe. Hooray Beer!

STAG time!
Stand tall and guzzle.

Well you wont catch me drink a Budwieser product ever again. I and I drink my share of beer. and your share, and your share, and your share and YOUR share. I now i aint the only one on this.

And I'm never driving a Harley Davidson Motorcycle again which is assembled by 90% Japanese tooling !! BLAH BLAH BLAH !!

Get over it Pal.... America as been sold out by US corporate rapists who have fucked this country over with the help of Bush and his cronnie fascist regime in the name of making a fast Buck with no tax or penalty repercussions for shipping US Jobs overseas.

And Bush shoves his Patriotism bullshit down our throats as he destroys middle class America with a shit eating grin on his face.

But don't lose hope....I hear the Chinese will soon be looking for cheap labor to do manual labor jobs like sewing shirts in sweats shop for minimum wages and the US is positioned well to get those jobs !!

America deserves to go right down the toilet for just passively and pathetically allowing Bush and Cheney to remain in power! So Bring It On Dubya!

People are making a much bigger deal out of this than when South African Breweries (SAB) bought Miller or when Coors and Molson merged. I guess that might make Sam Adams the largest fully US owned brewer in the country. Yeah, that crazy Jim Koch fucker puts a whole pound of hops in every barrel.. Dumbass..

InBev is the Budweiser across the Atlantic and in many ways, it is a good fit for them and Budweiser whose sales were going to decline at home. More and more people are discovering the incredibly tasty world of good beer and American schwill has been suffering very slow growth. But market their crap overseas more and they will make money, some of which will hopefully come back home..

So when do they start racing Citroens in NASCAR?

And you thought Tallegada Nights was just a movie.

"But market their crap overseas more and they will make money, some of which will hopefully come back home.."

I sincerely doubt the Europeans, especially the Belgians and the Germans, are going to suddenly become "Buddies."

Coors had a certain cachet for a while over there, but that was the result of good marketing, not good beer.

"So when do they start racing Citroens in NASCAR?"

When they start racing Hondas at Indy.

Uhm... Wait... They're already doing that.

Everyone acts like AB had a choice in this matter. InBev was going to take over, it was just a question of whether it was going to be hostel or not.

Funny thing is that I am sure about 90% of the people on here stating they will "never buy an AB product again" and "this is ruining our country" are the same people driving around in their Toyota's and Honda's. Hypocrites.

As the dollar continues to drop like a lead balloon, more and more companies will be bought out at what foreign investors consider bargain prices.

Chrysler Bldg. just bought by the (Saudis?)

Citibank

You name it.

Meanwhile, my royalty checks for foreign royalties will continue to be devalued month by month.
