we wouldn't be speaking of universal health care and there'd be plenty of fuel for the rest of u.s. - not to mention if they'd take their gangs (ms13) with them, we could clean some of our prisons out. auto insurance rates would probably be lower in the cities. we wouldn't have to press "2" for spanish and morgellons would probably never have come into this country.

False. The profits made using illegals in the workforce goes straight into the pockets of the employers. The consumer does not see any lower costs passed on to them because these employers use illegals on the job. All we get by using illegals in the workforce are suppressed and stagnant wages for American workers and higher taxes for the American citizens who have to provide their support. I know because illegals cost my state $9 billion last year (schools, social services, health care, incarceration costs, etc.) and our state politicians are now looking at ways to increase our taxes again to be able to meet the budget this year. As in most things Kerrin, as a rightie, wants us to view the situation of illegal immigration as a black and white issue. Either let them all stay and let them work for peanuts or instantly deport all of them. Neither is the right course, of course, but the right prefers them illegal because they work cheaper that way. I just want them to go through a process and become legal residents able to work legally and thus able to demand higher wages. I don't want them to drag down labor rates and I would support laws that would penalize employers for firing Americans and replacing them will immigrants at lower pay. If they just replace them and pay them the same then it is a different story.

When I first moved to Nevada 18 years ago I couldn't understand why so many people looked down on the illegals who I naively thought were only trying to make a better life for themselves. Well after a few years of working with, living next to and being friendly with them I realized my error of judgment and now I want to see ALL the illegals deported and an end to the "anchor baby" abuse of the 14th Amendment.

I washed dishes when I was in college and many students would do it today for $10/hour. Most people would do it for $25/hour.

There has never been any need to chase these people down. If they're picked up in the commission of a crime, and here illegally, jail and deport them. Otherwise just enforce existing laws against employers. Meat Packers who paid $20/hour a decade ago, now pay $10/hour. The agricultural lobby has long been provided legal temporary visas for foriegn labor. There is no problem here.

Importing H1-Bs to drive down the cost of skilled labor is another story altogether. Congress has been fed bullshit from the army of fake think tanks which Rethuglicans have sponsored to create a body of false science, similar to how nicotine and tetraethyl lead science was managed by lying and bribing Corporations. Tom Delay is a whole other level. Here we see slavery and endentured servitude imposed in the Marshall Islands with his full Congressional support. We are regressing ethically and socially, even using military force for the financial benefit of a few.

First off, I believe the 12 million number quoted is a wee bit low; more like 20 million according to other reliable sources.

Regardless, let's stick with the 12 million number.

What level of resources do you think it will take to identify, round up, detain, then transport 12 million people? Include that while they are being "stored" for transport, they will have to be housed, fed, watered, and clothed, medical care provided, and sanitary facilities provided. Add in the required security. And where will these "transfer" sites be? How much will that cost?

What would be the most expedient method to take back to whatever country they came from? Note that not all illegals originate from Mexico.

Train, plane, bus? Cargo aircraft? Military airlift?

Perhaps you would settle on the kind of long march that the US inflicted on the Amerinds to get them down to the res. Would a 25% loss rate on the new Trail of Tears be acceptable?

Problem is, they are here. In numbers larger than many nations.

That it should never have been allowed to happen is no longer relevant.

Because they are doing exactly what employers want illegal workers to do....drive down wages. If they were legal residents they wouldn't work as cheaply. Employers wouldn't be so anxious to literally "hire two for the price of one American" which is exactly what my son has heard now from several former employers here in S. Florida.
Also, the "health hazards" like GIMMEASCOTCH describes are just as common here in Florida. My son has left more than one job because of defecation left by Mexican illegal workers in places where they shouldn't have been. We don't really know if they do it out of hatred for the "gringo" workers or because they are just too stupid to know any better. I know that one "roach coach" was run off by the owner of the company for operating with two tier price system, one price (lower) for Hispanics and one price (higher) for the gringo. Most if not all strong capitalist economies have been built on the backs of slave labor or a type of slave labor. From blacks, to illegals, to manufacturing in asia for ridiculous costs, the principle is simple: underpay and overcharge.

This is the problem only not the way you said it. The problem is they do pay taxes. This is mainly applying to the ones that have to have papers to work (which is the majority of illegals). The companies that hire them without papers need to be jailed for being so greedy.

Let's say an illegal steals taxman's identity and uses it to get a job, then pays his fica, fed, state and local taxes on that stolen identity. Taxman gets no benefit from those taxes and the illegal has no re-course to them either.

So the illegal pays the taxes, even when he goes to mc donalds or wal-mart, as well as what ever he has to pay out of his paycheck, and cannot file any kind of tax return because it would be discovered that he used a stolen identity.

The gov't keeps all those moneys paid in with no services to pay in return.

First off, I would like to offer kudos to you on your scholarly command of language and the random way in which you use capitalization. It makes you look silly; almost (but not quite) as much as when you pull price figures out of thin air ($5 lettuce). There is plenty of research pointing toward much lower numbers (on average, a 10-15 cent increase per head).

PS- Racism has nothing to do with any of this. Illegal immigrants are not a race. Get a thesaurus and dictionary. I will wait for your response...

We could get our oil from friendly countries only, but that would just raise the cost and the average american wouldn't stand for it.

But we don't need to invest in mass transit. We do need to invest in alternative sources of energy. If we spent 700,000,000 just on that for a couple of years, we'd have a solution.

Amtrak is in the red forever. Public transportation is great--but folks won't use it--not here in CA.

If you take the bus and the drive in the car is 20 minutes--it takes the bus four passes and 3 hours to make the same trip.

Take the trolley and it takes an hour plus.

There is nothing that replaces oil/gas right now--we need to use our own resources and work on the alternatives.

Environmental regulations and requirements...LA to SJ train has been in the works for years, but there are bird sactuaries in between. Hispeed trains require animal passways and other ecological features for safety of the animals, and passengers.

I have never understood why they can't just go in the middle of 5, all the way to Seattle. Every large interchange you could put a station, which would be convienent for everyone going to get you, or even the buses. I think Greyhound would benefit from hi-speed trains.

I was in a restaurant a couple of days ago, and there were no Hispanics visible, not the waitstaff, not the bus boys, not the greeters. The steaks were excellent. The salmon someone ordered was delectable. And the restaurant somehow managed to function.

In the area in which I live, the gardeners are white, their helpers are white, the tradesmen who come in are also white. Somehow, we manage to function.

We have a handyman, who is a licensed electrician. He is licensed and insured, and responsible for his work. He does excellent work and does it quickly.

The "contribution" of illegal aliens to many industries is exaggerated. They generally are less skilled in many phases of the work. In construction, if you put up a fire door, it will take three of them two days (6 man days) to do a job that needs to be redone by two skilled people in one day (2 man days).

The contribution of illegal immigrants is in large part illusory because everyday you can see what they add, working say in fast food establishments, but you can't observe their drain on the economy through money exacted from others to support their children in schools, provide health care and obstetric service, and their impact on processing Hispanic criminals (police, court, prisones).

They constitute the majority of "gangs" with gangbangers doing drive-by shootings killing innocent chidren, and terrorizing neighborhoods. They are involved in altercations in bars, in burglaries, carjackings, and in other intrusions. Their involvement in violent crime and crime that threatens public safety as well as their proclivity to drunk driving (often unlicensed and it seems never insured) also represent dangers to the peace and tranquility of the lives of others.

What sane person would welcome such disruption?

Next question, do Americans suffer from collective insanity? What induced it? Brainwashing in the schools? It's interesting. Anything that identifies illegals with negative activities or consequences is "racist," and "racist," whatever that is in particular contexts, is "bad," and overrides any other considerations. Ergo, suffer gringo, suffer. Stupidity brings its own punishments, and you deserve yours.

I don't forget about them, herm, I want to remove them as they have a probable negative impact on my pre-existing community. What's the rationale for welcoming people who make your life less congenial? And your "saintly attitude" towards "them," certainly impacts others than yourself negatively. In some countries, which are "poor" compared to the U.S., you find hordes of servants available to perform personal services. My ex-wife even as a child, had her own servant following her around and sleeping at the foot of her bed. Maybe with the introduction of so many unskilled people, we will develop other modes to utilize this resource. I wonder how it will work out.

For example in my locality, there was an illegal who was caught for drunken driving violations and his status of being illegal. He was sent back to Mexico only about 4 months later he was back illegally in the country, He hit a 6 year old girl with a company truck. The six year old girl died that day. It wouldn't do a lot if you just send illegal immigrants back over the border, you also need to secure the border and punish those who hire illegals. That girl should have never died if strict rules and enforcement were implemented.
