FARGO, N.D. -- Barack Obama struggled Thursday to explain his plan to end the war in Iraq, calling a rare do-over news conference to insist that he was not softening his campaign pledge to withdraw all combat troops within 16 months of becoming president.

"That position has not changed. I have not equivocated on that position. I have not searched for maneuvering room with respect to that position," he said.

If at first you don't succeed in being vague enough on your policies, give a second speech to clarify that you weren't vague in the first speech, while still saying nothing. What a toad! Look for at least three speeches today on how he defines his patriotism. Ha!

Happy Fourth, and join me in a brief prayer/reflection/chant/human sacrifice/meditation/wish that the rest of this country finally wises up to this guy before November.

Sounds a bit expedient, but no worse than Bush's false promises of a compassionate government and a humble foreign policy.

Bush on Nation Building before Election:

I'm worried about an opponent [Gore] who uses nation building and the military in the same sentence.

I don't think our troops ought to be used for what's called nation building.

... a nation-building corps from America. Absolutely not. Our military is meant to fight.

Equivivication...But but but Bush did it. Just because Bush is a tool doesn't mean Obama isn't.

Obackpeddler

From what I have been hearing and reading, he needs a "do-over" for his wife more than anything else.

Obama's position on this has been consistent.

16 months withdrawal as the goal.

Tempered by reality on the ground.

Difference between Obama and Bush is that Bush claimed to "listen to his Generals" but obviously didn't.

Obama sez he'll listen to the Generals and he will.

Another non-story inflated by the MSM and the loony right.

Be Well.

If at first you can't confuse, lie, lie again.

Obama Needs 'Do-Over' Speech For Iraq

He got it. Did it. It's over.

Sorry ya right wing suckers, next!

Dethspud,

"Difference between Obama and Bush is that Bush claimed to "listen to his Generals" but obviously didn't."

According to RichardClarke's book, the generals had no back bone (Powell's doctrine). That and they didn't have a counter-insurgency program, an never told the adiministration that.

I know everyone picks sides on this issue, but Clarke, other than his chest beating, does a good job of being objective...

Really?
"Obama calls for immediate withdrawal from Iraq"

He introduced legislation last January calling for withdrawal to start on May 1 and for all combat brigades to be pulled out by March 31, 2008.

Sounds like he just keeps moving goal posts....

I don;t get it.

This is the #1 democrat issue and the guy is NOT going to withdraw troops, and every fucking person knows it.

He CANT withdraw in 16 months. And its amazing how many stupid, brainwashed democrats there are that actually believe him.

Um, democrats, your being lied to, and hes not going to withdraw like he said.

What the fuck are you gonna do about it.
