Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

After almost 15 months of its longest, deadliest, and most unconventional deployment, the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment of the US Army comes home from Iraq unsure of whether they've made a lasting difference. "We have no control over what happens once we leave. No one is prepared to stay here 20 years of their lives to make sure this place stays good," says Spc. Mark Webster, a native of San Luis Obispo, Calif., stationed at the neighborhood garrison of Adel.

A little long, but a good read. Interesting insight into what is happening on the ground.

McBullshit is prepared to have them stay 100 years if necessary.

"He spoke of how commercial thoroughfares are being slowly revitalized with US grants to shop owners and of the public-works projects initiated and paid for by the US military."

CAn you believe they are STILL spending our money over there like crazy????
This is CRAZEEEEEEE!!!!!
Always was...always will be.

It's not 1 year, 10 years or 100 years that's the big deal - that is a sound bite. It's how many casualties we have that matters. We've been in Germany, Japan and Korea for decades and most people count this as a good thing.

If it gets settled down to some semblance of normalcy then it's a good thing - we can be there for 1000 years and it will be a good thing - nobody will care.

There's a huge flaw in McCain's thinking that's represented by his "100 years" comment, Spielmannsfluch. How long is he willing to stay in Iraq to get to the point where our troops are in a peacetime occupation there? How many lives and how much money is he willing to spend to get to that point? And what are the odds Iraq will ever transform into postwar Germany?

The fact we're doing road projects in Iraq while our own infrastructure is crumbling here demonstrates how screwed up the Permanent War Party's priorities are.

I'll care how is THAT?? The Greedy Obnoxious Pricks have had their "Fun" It's time for the Liberals to clean up the mess You guys made. So tell Me how many more lives must be lost before Your thirst for blood is quenched?? 10,000 Americans?? 20,000??? How many.

Larry Mohr

Really.

I am sure you won't mind if we allow Israel to have a base and troops here in the USA?

Her sister, Jinan Marouf, adds: "All this calm is temporary, trust me. If we get someone like Saddam Hussein back, Iraq will be itself again. We need someone with his control.

Longing fer the return of a strongarm dictator?

Mission Accomplishitfucked.

Be Well.

If we ever want a true decision about the Iraq Invasion made by the American people the first thing we need to do is raise taxes high enough to pay for the adventure. After Americans receive their tax bill then, and only then, should the vote on the rightness or wrongness of that invasion.
By delaying the economic effects of this invasion the Bushies have involved us in a conflict which is none of our business and which would never have been fought had the true cost been quoted. I would think some rich Republicans would be getting pissed about now and I don't mean drunk...though considering their wealth is worth 41% less thanks to DUMBYA they may also be somewhat intoxicated, understandably.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if, in the end, it was Bush's "base" that took him out and strung his ass up????
Now that would be funny.

I wonder how long it's going to be before this outfit gets sent to Afghanistan to try and quell the increasing instability in the Dubya's other quagmire.

Commanders faced with increasing violence have said they need at least 7,500 more troops in Afghanistan. And President Bush and defense officials have said they hope to identify additional units by the end of the year that could go to Afghanistan early next year.

The Pentagon has said that more U.S. forces cannot be sent to the Afghan fight until decisions are made to further reduce troop levels in Iraq. In the last two months, violence in Afghanistan has led to more U.S. and coalition casualties there than in Iraq, and June was the deadliest month for U.S. troops in Afghanistan since the war began.

Hey, bush learns about as well as hitler, start war on two fronts and don't finish either one.

MONEY...what the hell are you talking about

America has fought 2 to 3 front wars many...many times and won

WWI....germany,belgum...italy

WWII...germany, japan, italy

Korea...north korea, china

Veitnam.... south vietnam, north veitnam and russia/china

Hey Judas in case you didn't notice, we didn't win in Korea, and we outright lost in VietNam. Move on to your next talking point.

We sure as hell never fought in Russia or China. Hitler's demise began when he decided that he could do England and Russia at the same time. herm

Just like in Iraq the same in Vietnam. The soldiers, Marines, airman and sailors won the war a long time ago - it's the politicians who keep losing the fight for peace.

By the way, we did win Korea. That's why there is still two of them out there.

Americans have always went into all of their wars outnumbered from the Revolutionary, French and Indian, 1812, Mexican....

As far as crumbling infrastructure, we are still the nation with the best societal infrastructure this planet has ever known. Try changing your perspective a bit - maybe a walk through Tijuana or Northern Canada can change things a bit.

OUT IGHT LOST VIETNAM....IS A PRETTY STRONG STATEMENT SINCE AMERICA WON EVERY BATTLE

GERMANY...LOST EVERY BATTLE...IN WWII....the comparison is not even close

"GERMANY...LOST EVERY BATTLE...IN WWII.."

Huh?

Whats left of Iraq is just laying low, accepting Bush's bribes and waiting to see who wins the next US election.

If Obama wins things might remain stable, particularly if he begins pulling out immediately.

If McCain wins ALL HELL WILL BREAK LOOSE.

The Ultimate slam towards the Bushites. Unbelievbable.

Nutcase, well you are a nutcase. You must be clairvoyant to know that we would think you are a nutcase and therefore call yourself exactly that.

Funny shit

If McCain wins ALL HELL WILL BREAK LOOSE.

Obama won't be pulling out of anything Bush got us into until he's forced to by foreign powers; the electorate be damned. It's pitiful to watch so many believe a politician during lying season.

Lately, he's been flip-flopping so much, nobody knows what to expect of him. I say, expect the worse no matter who gets in office. These people are madmen.

crack & ted,

well we'll see about that next February won't we.

the nuttiest thing on this site is Conservatives blaming everything on the Democrats, while continuing to give Shrub a free ride. The brain short circuit required to maintain this position is severe and hilarious.

As far as crumbling infrastructure, we are still the nation with the best societal infrastructure this planet has ever known. Try changing your perspective a bit - maybe a walk through Tijuana or Northern Canada can change things a bit.

That's your rationalization for the declining state of the U.S. highways and bridges, typified by the catastrophic bridge collapse in Minneapolis -- we're better than Tijuana?

RCADE, the gentleman with the long name you respond to is just reverting to an atavism---That whatever neoconservatives do, no matter how it takes away from or hurts this country, is not only the right thing but the only thing that could have been done.

My little part of the world would LOVE the financial attention Iraqis get from our government in regards to business and infrastructure---But I'm afraid those who approve it for the Iraqis would condemn it for Americans as being socialism.

maybe a walk through Tijuana.

Wow, Spud knew conservatives were fans of lowering the bar but never imagined a Limbo contest of this proportion.

Dare to dream, Boaz.

Be Well.

DETHSPUD---Tijuana is the standard they advance today, but I'm afraid tomorrow it will be Kinshasha.

But if it is Kinshasha, don't envy the uber-rich. They earned what they got through hard work and talent, unlike some.

those who approve it for the Iraqis would condemn it for Americans as being socialism.

Those are the same folks who say Corporate Welfare is good, neccessary and vitally important to the nations "security" while promoting the General Welfare of the citizenry is practically communism.

It's a zero sum game, ya see.

Spud sez Fuck them biatches.

Fuck 'em with a stick.

Be Well.

They earned what they got through hard work and talent, unlike some.

Wot's the phrase RCade is like to use?...

Oh yeah, "Born on third base and acting like they just hit a triple."

Spud luffs that one.

Be Well.
