where do I enlist?

Winning hearts and minds...

But slowly losing livers...

WAIT....WAIT...WAIT one moment here....did i not read a thread just the other day that said all the christians in iraq were scared to go back

LARRY...must be wrong once again....his iraq theocracy must be failing.... because if they were to go by islamic law....then there would be no alcohol.....only a democractic iraq could have allowed this to happen

Well, looks like I can finally book that vacation I've been dying to take ever since we democratized Iraq.

Praise Allah...

It is sad that relgion must be used to make fire bombs and cut on arms. How brutal and barbaric.

The cost they have paid is heavy; they stand against the tide and I praise them for living life as they believe. It would be helpful if the religious extremists did not attempt to force their lifestyle on others.

Booze in Baghdad?

Well, THAT ought to stabilise the place!

Winning hearts and minds...

But slowly losing livers...

FF fer K G Beekeeper!

Be Well.

/Outta here fer now. Exiting like he do
stage left.

In Morocco, when Muslims bought beer at the convenience store, the clerk would wrap the cans in newspaper before bagging them, and the customers would carry the booze out under their cloaks. When I bought my beer, the clerk just dropped it in the plastic bag like normal, and I gave him a "shokran," went on my way.

There's religion, there's law, and then there's that pesky humanity always messing with the former two.

what more proof do you guys need to show that things are going well in iraq......whats next....the budwieser bikini skiing team???//

DEMOCRACY=BOOZE....After 4500 Dead Americans, Hundred Thousands of Iraquis dead, Trillions spent from our Children future, The Bush Doctrine (BOOZE FOR ALL) lives, is this what the President ment by Democracy in the Middle East????

Just what an area in the midst of a civil war needs..

A kegger

Funny how some people consider the availability of alcohol to be assign of Western progress in Iraq. It makes me realize once again why so many adherents of Islam consider the West to be decadent and a contaminating influence.

Now You were saying Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

i guess everybody wants to get bent

Booze returns to Baghdad, and my cousin returns Stateside from her second turn in that area in eight days. BRILLIANT!

I'm sorry but Iraq is a Muslim country and Islam has certain relgious laws that it would only be common courtesy to observe, in my opinion. I don't see how selling alcoholic beverages outright in Baghdad is progress - seems to me it is another slap in the face to the residents of that country.
Ever visit Salt Lake City? There are special stores where alcoholic beverages are sold so the Mormons who live there don't have to be tempted when they shop at their local A&P. But another country, another religion? Naw, violating their religious code of conduct is seen as progress.

Personally, I think it is just rude.

Booze Returns to Baghdad

.....now that's what I'm talkin' bout'......

Personally, I think it is just rude.

You obviously didn't read the article which clearly stated that the booze flowed well under Sadaam's rule. Their Islamic beliefs do not prevent them from consuming or desiring alcohol, just from selling it.

As much as I abhor this war, it is nice to hear some progress being made. Our country was founded over many pints of ale - maybe theirs will be too..

Having spent several years in the Middle East I find it rather amusing that this is even a story.

Must be Bush's fault.

Where are all the local Christians who drink? 1 million of them are gone or in hiding.

You Rethuglicans just keep repeating the surge is working, the surge is working....

If its in print or on the web, just like Saddam's WMDs, it must be true.

Personally, I think it is just rude - Dawnglo

Yes, the entire Iraq operation is rude, just rude.

Let me shield my face.

Grudgingly, I will admit this is a very good sign. Breitbart says further that 12 of 15 benchmarks for Iraq stability are being met. www.breitbart.com

Now, I was nervous and against the invasion idea from the start, but largely convinced by folks in high places that DOD knew what it was doing in planning to go to war with Saddam, and they knew where to find what they needed to find. I was skeptical of Powell's UN presentation, but had faith that if he backed the actions against Saddam, he had asked all of teh right questions.

But when the Army went straight in to protect the oil wells and not the museums and when the Administration's know-nothing civilian political hacke were given huge responsibilities way over their heads, it became apparent that this was a cabal gone wild running the show.

So, to see progress come about, slow as it might be, is certainly a positive development, but one that has come on the backs of many decent people trying awfully hard to fix the mistakes of the ideologues and blowhards in the cabal that dreamed up the invasion of Iraq. Congrats to those who are making it work; Shame on those who elected to ignore the experts and who made the last 5 years so very painful for alcon.

Your Mormon reference makes the point. Individuals who want a beer in Iraq know where to go for it. Those who don't know the stores to avoid.

Just like Salt Lake City.

Beer for oil?

When the Pot shows up then I will believe that the "surge" is working!

I had a cab driver once at an airport who didn't want to touch any bags that contained alcohol. Didn't bother me. I put my own bags in the trunk anyway. Turned out to be a real nice guy. My idiot friend left his cell phone in the cab and the guy came back to drop it off after he was a good 20 minutes away. Then my asshole friend, who was acting as if the phone was his most valuable possession before he found out where it was, only gave him 10 bucks for his trouble (which was way less than he would have got had he spent his 40 mins round trip picking up another fair).

Theocracy is a form of government in which a 'god' or 'deity' is recognized as the supreme civil ruler. For believers, theocracy is a form of government in which divine power governs an earthly human state, either in a personal incarnation or, more often, via religious institutional representatives (i.e., a church), replacing or dominating civil government.[1] Theocratic governments enact theonomic laws.

LARRY...your wrong once again... because if iraq was ruled by islamic law...then booze could never be sold in iraq.....iraq would then be just like saudi arabia (which it is not)......saudi arabai is ruled by theocracy....iraq is not....big difference in the coutries

iraq is more like a early democracy with religiuos back ground....just like america was in its early years

What if "they" came over from the suburbs of Fallujah and set up a chain of cocaine outlets next to every Murrican elementary school? Would "they" be inflicting on us approximately what we're inflicting with out Baghdad liquor sales? herm

WOW! In the US beer is now cheaper than oil!
