Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

A Texas grand jury has cleared a 62-year-old retiree who who shot and killed two men he suspected of burglarizing his neighbor's home last fall in Pasadena. "He wasn't acting like a vigilante. He didn't want to do it," said Tom Lambright, Horn's attorney.

Vegelanty Justice is alive and well in Texas unfortunately.

Did texas law get anything right this year?

I guess the burglars in Texas better arm themselves. Breaking into someone house without a gun is stupid. I would imagine the next guys will shoot back instead of allowing themselves to be shot down in cold blood like dogs.

If this guy were my neighbor, I would treat him like the nut case murderer he is. Every day when I came home I would still remember where the bodies were laying on my street. I'd rather collect on my insurance for my stolen property than have those kinds of memories. I would not enjoy my home knowing my neighbor killed two people to protect my fucking ipod and wii.

knowing my neighbor killed two people to protect my fucking ipod and wii.

Liar. You don't have an ipod or a wii, just some feigned outrage at a guy who had the balls to nail a couple of career criminals who violated the law when they entered this country illegally - one of whom had already been deported for cocaine trafficking. The real shame goes to the assholes who harassed this guy by mobbing his house and trying to make him feel guilty.

"who had the balls to nail a couple of career criminals who violated the law when they entered this country illegally - "

Balls??? You mean this coward who unilaterally decided to give two men the death penalty for a two bit house burglary by shooting them in the back?

They just replayed the guys 911 call.

He said, "Everything's changed since September the 1st"

There ya go....

Only a coward like yourself would think it takes "balls" to shoot two unarmed men in the back as they ran away. This guy is as guily as OJ, and is free for the same reasons.

The laws these men violated were not death penalty laws. I would bet you are pro-life too. Got Jesus on your side?

;-)

Hard to believe that you can shoot a neighbor's unarmed burglars in the back outside in broad daylight and walk away scot free.

It's fucked up RCADE. That is the mentality as of late I am afraid. Sighhhhh

Larry

I am sure everyone has heard the cliche about a grand jury being able to indict a ham sandwich. If the grand jury cleared this guy, then it speaks volumes about the case.

Don't be a burglar in Texas.

NO ,, Breaking into someones house who has a gun is stupid. Breaking into someones house and knowing the the neighbors are armed is stupid.

Makes me proud the the Tennessee volunteers went down there to help them folks at the Alamo. We shoot 'em up here too. The way to prevent getting shot here is very simple...don't burglarize! Head out to the West Coast...they offer "Burglar Benefits" out there.

Years ago in Travis county a guy saw burglars leaving his neighbor's home. It was a rural area. As they were driving off the guy stepped out into the highway and nailed the driver with a deer rifle.

Grand Jury: "Nice shootin'."

I would think any burglar in Texas would shoot first in the future. They should take this lesson to heart. Don't do it unless you are prepared to shoot first.

But then, that should be true anyplace. Only truly stupid burglars would go into a house unarmed. Lots of times they break in to get guns. Just a little irony.

eh

"trespassers will be shot"

has been around for a long time

especially in texas

if you try to rob the federal reserve
guaranteed you'd get shot
in the face

a man can not protect his neighborhood

these men were committing a serious crime and obviously weren't too smart if they didn't realize that someone IN TEXAS didn't own a gun.

this is how you know i'm a centrist

if i own a gun
and you try to rob me

i'm going to shoot you

guns aren't just for target practice
by definition they are for protecting property

I love texas, im so glad this guy did what he did. 2 less in the pool of life. I bet if more of this went on, and was reported, then you would see less and less of these guys breaking into homes, maybe they would even head back to mexico and just stay there.

Can't feel to bad for these guys. They were career criminals that got killed committing a felony. moral of the story is don't rob people and you won't get killed.

"trespassers will be shot"

Survivors will be prosecuted.

Its hard to believe that he knew they were unarmed.

Its hard to believe that our legal system lets men like these stay on the street to take whatever they want and in broad daylight.

Its hard to believe that more buglars arn't shot when they break into a house.

Its hard to believe they think they are welcome to take anything they want from anybody.

There are many things that are hard to believe, including your edited version of what happened.

"maybe they would even head back to mexico and just stay there."

I'm too lazy to check, but I recall they weren't Mexicans.

I guess I'm in the minority but I have a lot of sympathy for this guy. My city (as well as neighborhood) is currently going through a crime wave. My house has been burglarized multiple times, and we have an unending number of crack/meth heads who do nothing but make things miserable for the rest of us. Within a 5 block radius, we've also had several assaults and home invasions, as well as 4 or 5 crack houses.

About two months ago, we had to run a criminal (who was trying to pry open our garage) off our property. Prior to that, we had to run one off of our neighbor's back porch (he was trying to kick open her door at 1:00am). Things are only getting worse now that the days are getting longer and hotter.

I know my neighbors very well, and I honestly don't know what I would do if I saw a druggie climbing into a broken window. These kind of things are split second decisions based on the information on hand; ie, guy in mask climbing through broken window. When it takes the police 30 minutes to respond, it could very well be the difference between a violent assault, rape, or murder, and stopping a criminal in his tracks.

My spouse and I are lucky, we have enough money we can simply move (and we likely will). But there are a lot of good people stuck in bad neighborhoods, much worse than ours, that really have no choice.

People who think a gun will protect them are stupid beyond belief.

The stories in this thread are not shown as anywhere near self defense. Even Zatoichis scenario was one of cold blooded murder.

Facts are, there is only one scenario where a gun can protect you from a bad guy.

That one scenario is if the bad guy makes enough noise and gives you enough time to get to your weapon. Any other scenario leaves you with your deer rifle stuck up your ass with a distress flag attached.

You can answer the door with a gun in your hand and still not be able to protect yourself if someone wants you dead.

One of them had already been deported from a cocaine charge.

Couple a real winners. The type of men that you read about and say "What the fuck are they doing here?"

I LOVE TEXAS.... I do not have a problem with what this man did.

I like my neighbors.
They have machine guns, lots of machine guns.

www.wilsoncombat.com

My axe of choice.

I'll take any subtraction of Texans from the equation.

The original report stated that one of the 2 burglars, after being told to freeze, advanced on Mr Horn. Only after he raised the gun did the scumbag turn to flee. I feel no sympathy for these two. We are sick and tired of crime, and the do-nothing justice system that keeps letting them back on the streets. They contribute nothing, and worse, they try and take from others. Too bad it has to come to this, but if these punks hadn't been committing the crime in the first place, none of this would have happened.

"Even Zatoichis scenario was one of cold blooded murder."

The Travis County Grand Jury says you're full of shit.

Bravo!

"you ever eat venison"

Been too long.

Years ago I lived at Lake Travis. Late one night I was awakened by banging at the door. It was my neighbor. He'd hit a deer with his car and wanted help field dressing it.

Guess that's a lesson to people then... don't break into houses that don't belong to you.

We cry more tears in this country for the criminals then we do for the victims... kind of annoying.

Self retorting retort.

I heard they even had flag lapel-pins.

May was a pretty good month for eliminating burglars here in Tennessee. Too bad they didn't live in san Francisco or maybe Massachusetts.

The suspected burglars were unemployed illegal immigrants from Colombia. One had been was deported to Colombia in 1999 after a 1994 cocaine-related conviction.

How will we all go forth without these two pillars of the community, and America itself... What a tragic loss for all of us.

Sad day for the 2nd amendment. This will lead to a more furious assault on our gun rights in the future. The man stepped out on his porch with premeditated murder in mind; if you listen to the tape it is really clear.

I fee sorry for the neighbor that locks himself out of his house and goes to the side window or back door to try and get in. You guessed it blasted. Or, the teenagers that make the mistake of cutting through the wrong yard. Bang bang bang, I thought the was bugulars.

If I am right as the body count rises from people "defending" their neighbors; expect a new and invigorated assault on the 2nd amendment.

Rcade -- Texas mentality.

Oddly, I'd like to see some stats to show that gun-happy Texas is a safer place and less prone to crime than any other place. IMHO, I think that the land of former Gov. GW Bush, where there were so many more people executed by the state every year than anywhere else, is a crazier, wilder, and more dangerous and less civilized place than any other place in the civilized world.

(But then, it's teh kind of place where you can drink til you can't see straight, shoot your lawyer friend in the face, and then get him to apologize for causing you such inconvenience. Texas! What a state!)

People who think a gun will protect them are stupid beyond belief.

Is it really necessary to throw around personal insults? My spouse and I have run criminals off our property and our neighbors on two occasions. I honestly don't know if they were armed but when somebody tried to kick down my elderly neighbor's door at 1 am, their intentions probably weren't the best.

I am not a big person and a criminal would be in no way intimidated by me. However, I am one hell of a marksman.

I'm amazed at some of my fellow Texans. True enough, they were illegals. True enough, they were burglars. They should have been arrested and put in jail, and then deported. But to shoot two people in the back, on someone else's property, and have no legal consequences....that's screwed up. Are we now a vigilante state? Is this how Texas want America to view us, as a trigger-happy bunch of yee-haws? Oh yeah, too late...

(looking at Zatoichi's post above)
PS why are red states the leaders in firearm deaths?

I know I'll never go to Texas, thats for sure.

Looks like QPC will have to commit his robberies in some other state then...

They should give the guy a medal and put his story over every major news station. However you people whom are against this, words cannot describe you, like my old man used to say some people are too stupid to insult. So here is your's, fools the whole lot of you. Look it up sometime and find its true meaning.

This murderer...

False... see article.

"PS why are red states the leaders in firearm deaths?"

because the blue states send all their felons to Congress.

"They should have been arrested and put in jail, and then deported"

so they can rob again
maybe next time they would rape a house wife
or daughter

or maybe next time they would have killed the occupants when they realized they were home after breaking in

cause in blue states you raise the property and income taxes and force the poor to move to red states.

I've lived in Blue and Red, mostly blue. Although where I lived, I always felt safe, but some of the cities in those blue states beat the crap out of any red state I've ever been in... Newark, Philly, Camden... fuck that shit.

But then again, that's mostly where minorities are... if they weren't allowed to have guns the country would be a crap ton safter.

Gentrification, or urban gentrification, encompasses a number of processes of change in demographics, land uses and building conditions in an area, accompanied by rapid increase in a neighborhood's property prices and influx of investment and physical remodelling and renovation. In many cases, the lower-income residents who originally lived in the neighborhood have to move out of the neighborhood because they can no longer afford to live there.

from wiki

thats what we blue states do

i'm not saying its a bad thing mind you
i like seeing the scummy places near me get gentrified

But then again, that's mostly where minorities are... if they weren't allowed to have guns the country would be a crap ton safter.

Where and when I grew up, in Mississippi in the 50's, they weren't.

Believe me, it wasn't safer.

the country would be a crap ton safter.

And even safer.

But to shoot two people in the back, on someone else's property

Guess what? The burglars were on Horn's property when he shot them, and Texas had already put one guy in prison and deported him.

Moral of the Story: When you get a second chance...Take it.

Believe me, it wasn't safer.

I'm gonna call bullshit on that when compared to at the least philly...

Zat -- Interesting state! High correlations between red states and gun deaths and high poverty/low education attainmant and gun deaths. Double whammy if you live in a red state with low education attainment!

the whole time I lived in Newark, all I heard was "Newark is coming back." Nope. Sorry, not going to happen... I live right next to Camden... that place ain't coming back...

Thankfully where I live just jacked Real Estate taxes up 22%, so they ain't coming here if they leave Camden... Did I just give thanks for a 22% tax hike?

rob
i've lived until recently for 18 years in connecticut

bridgeport was GHETTTTTO

they jacked taxes

bulldozed the projects (nicknamed "father panic village")

and its come back a lot
i mean its still not like the rest of ct
and there is still some bit of ghetto

but its not scary like it was in the early 90's

Just getting along, this is the whole thing about a gun ban, what it creates is a gun free zone that people who abide by the law will abide by. However your cracked up street scum they dont live by the law and their in lies the rub.Take away the meens to defend onself and the scum take what they want when they want. simple as that, now what part of this dont you understand.

bulldozed the projects (nicknamed "father panic village")

That's what you have to do...

A problem in Newark, where I lived was actually very nice and almost rural looking... it was called the Forest Hills area. There were a lot of large and very nice houses, from a while back before the riots chased out all the good people, but they've all been converted into apartments. So you're not going to get people to move back into those homes, they all have to be knocked down.

gensherman

i'm pretty sure
jest was being sarcastic as hell

"That's what you have to do... "

if you ever drive i95 through bridgeport
you'll see a huge field (probably 100 acres) with just one house standing in the middle right by the electric plant.

that whole area used to be father panic village

now its father panic field haha

Take away the meens to defend onself and the scum take what they want when they want. simple as that, now what part of this dont you understand.

Assumng your neighbor can see you and would rather take a chance of shooting you instead of calling the police--it doesn't address how YOUR gun is for protection.

Your captor could still kill you with his dying breath--or the shot could make him shoot you through reflex action--or your neighbors shot could hit you--or he could just wound your captor and he kills you--or he could miss everything and your captor kills you.

Really--how do you see your gun as protection--what scenario?

I used to come home once in a while to a baby rattler laying right in front of my garage door when I lived in SoCal. Those handheld lawn edgers -- the ones that look like a handle with a ninja-star at the end -- are amazingly effective.

I once had a big brown Tarantula make its home on the ceiling of my entry way. I tried to "capture" it at first, but the fishing rod I used to pry the sucker down nearly snapped. Alas, I beaned it with a hammer and shop-vac'd what was left...
