Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

With less than six weeks before it plays host to the Olympic sailing regatta, (China) has mobilized thousands of people and an armada of small boats to clean up an algae bloom that is choking large stretches of the coastline and threatening to impede the Olympic competition. Xinhua reported that algae currently covered a third of the coastal waters designated for the Olympic races.

Most Favored Nation.... I love it.

It's great to live in a communist country--ey??

They "make" people clean it up, they fail to treat their sewage and dump it into the ocean, and then they feed the algae to the pigs and other animals. Not to speak about the pollution in the air.

Figures that it would be a "red" tide....bunch of Commie bastards. This is the future thanks to corporate greed that causes corporations to just leave countries where decent pay and environmental standards are required and go anywhere there are people poor enough to work for almost nothing and allow their environment to be destroyed. Our country should erect trade barriers to countries and companies that avoid paying living wages and insist on the right to pollute.

The headline should have read: "Red Tide engulfs Red China".

they will ignore the environment until they overtake the west economically. all part of the plan.

and we will kiss their redacted all the way.

Danni, mebbe you need to back off just a wee bit. Not so long ago, the US was not real proactive about environmental/ecological protection in its build up through industrialization (can you say Love Canal?). Perhaps you are too young to remember the crying Indian used in 70s ads about cleaning up the environment. It is better now, but there are still scads of blatant violations that occur all the time. And when the US corps find it too expensive to implement EPA standards, well they just move operations south of the border into Mexico where environmental protection standards are almost non-existent. Do a little web-search on what toxic hells exist along the northern Mexican border and who owns those manufacturing sites.

So China and India are essentially emerging industrial nations that are starting from scratch so to speak utilizing methods and energies more common to mid 20th century. Not so long ago, "Made in Japan" was synonymous with crap. Ain't so now.

And if you really want to get to the bottom line, the US consumer is actively contributing to the toxic nightmare occurring in China by simply purchasing the products made there and shipped here.

mobilzed thousand of people and an armada of boats????

what can they do, drink all the seawater?????????

Hey Danni, did you see all those Commie bastards in Cedar Rapids a few weeks ago, working together to fill sandbags and help their community facing disaster?

Go back and read the article slowly and you will see that China "mobilized" people.

Your ignorance of China is only surpassed by your ignorance of economics. And energy. And food producion. And ... well ..... talking points

It's called the maquiladora zone.

what can they do, drink all the seawater?????????

They're not trying to stop the problem, only to make it negligible to the point that the regatta can take place.

But I really feel sorry for the triathletes.

"Do a little web-search on what toxic hells exist along the northern Mexican border and who owns those manufacturing sites."

Oh, I know very well who owns them and who is encouraging the Chinese. Its our good old corporate greed fuckers who will sell out their own country, destroy America's economy and use the media to get Americans to go along while waving flags and cheering for unnecessary wars overseas.

"But I really feel sorry for the triathletes."

I really think they should compete somewhere else where the water isn't full of shit.

"Your ignorance of China is only surpassed by your ignorance of economics."

Riiiight, I'm not smart like you Vernon, I don't see the benefits of outsourcing all our jobs and destroying our economy. It takes geniuses like you to listen to Rush and then think they are skooled in Ekunomiks.

We couldn't be sold out unless we were willing to be sold, Danni.

"We couldn't be sold out unless we were willing to be sold, Danni."

What control do we have over outsourcing???

Leadership is supposed to lead the country in the direction we need to go, not in the direction that the corporate oligarchy wants to go. there have always been good manufactured outside of the US which were cheaper than goods made within the US but we used to have tariffs to protect our jobs and our economy....until the corporate greed fucks convinced us that "Free Trade" was good for us.
I notice that other nations such as CHINA haven't been so willing to remove their tariffs even though they expect us to remove ours.

What control do we have over outsourcing???

The same control our legislature has but is equally unwilling to exercise with respect to Iraq...

The power of the purse.

Leadership is supposed to lead the country in the direction we need to go, not in the direction that the corporate oligarchy wants to go.

This is revealing.... we're supposed to be electing REPRESENTATIVES, not leaders.

Big difference.

Go through everything you own, find what is made in China and burn it. That means you wont be able to post here on the DR anymore, but it's a sacrifice I am sure you're willing to make to send a signal to greedy corporations.

Those greedy corporations are in business to make money. If they don't make money for their investors, the investors go somewhere else, where someone is making money. Then, the company that can't make money for it's investors goes bankrupt and people lose jobs.

It's bullshit and it might not be right, but it is what it is.

but we used to have tariffs to protect our jobs and our economy....until the corporate greed fucks convinced us that "Free Trade" was good for us.

Looks like you got today's talking points from the AFL-CIO.

Ever hear of the Great Depression? One reason it went so deep and lasted so long was because the US raised tariffs to "protect" American manufacturers. The inability to trade with the US caused GLOBAL misery and helped bring on World War II.

The truth is that we have always sent jobs to foreigners who will do it cheaper. And *pop* ZING K~A-P-O-W!!!!!!!!! Manufacturing continues to be about 20 percent of our economy.

You live in some 1950s fantasy world. American manufacturing is not about steel and cars but high tech stuff.

When you go to Target (we all know you'd NEVER go to Wal-Mart without your disguise) are you gonna pay $35 for the shoes made in Malaysia? Or are you going to another store and Pay $600 for the American shoes?

Go through everything you own, find what is made in China and burn it.

You don't necessarily have to stop buying everything from china... just what is not absolutely necessary.

It takes geniuses like you to listen to Rush

Danni, you're always trying to toss in some shit like this when you know you've lost the argument. Last week you accused me of being a Bush supporter. And like this Rush comment, it had absolutely nothing to do with the topic.

You're just flailing around in the water, grasping for anything because you know you're about to drown.

Talking points aside, of course
