The British writer Ian McEwan has spoken up in defense of fellow novelist Martin Amis, who wrote a collection of essays last year sharply critical of Muslims for not doing enough to confront terrorism and described terrorists as "sexually frustrated misogynists entranced by a cult of death." "The impulse towards rational inquiry is by now very weak in the rank and file of the Muslim male," Amis wrote.
