Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

John McCain's Vietnamese jailer said he'd vote for the Republican if he could. "If I were an American voter, I would vote for Mr. John McCain," said Tran Trong Duyet, 75. "He's very loyal to the U.S. military, to his beliefs and to his country. In all of our debates, he never admitted that the war was a mistake."

"In all of our debates, he never admitted that the war was a mistake."

Can't admit a mistake? That's why McCain't shouldn't be elected.

I never for a minute disbelieved any of the accounts of McCain's five years of torture and imprisonment by the Viet Cong. Doesn't mean I'm going to vote for him but I always believe his story about what happened to him in 'Nam.

Can't admit a mistake? That's why McCain't shouldn't be elected.

I'm glad he didn't 'admit the mistake', because it would've be used to demoralize the other captives.

Now not admitting the mistake after the war was over, you could make a case for that...

Looks like McCain's getting out the torture vote.

At the same time, he denies prisoners of war were tortured. Despite detailed POW accounts and physical wounds, Duyet claims the presumed Republican presidential nominee made up beatings and solitary confinement in an attempt to win votes.

I wonder if Dems will try to run with this...

"All those Vietnam vets that were POWs are lying about their captivity," sounds like a winning argument to me...

No Rob, actually it is right wingers who lie and denigrate about the military service of rival politicians. (See Swiftboaters/Kerry). We liberals admire McCain for his service to the country, and respect the ordeal he experienced as a POW. Unlike GWB and Cheney, he is not a chicken shit chickenhawk.

"I wonder if Dems will try to run with this....?"

Good question, Rob---Republicans seemed to have some success with it against McCain in 2000.

I'm still puzzling why it was so important Bush be nominated in 2000 that McCain had to be called a---

1) Liberal
2) A traitor
3) Crazy
4) Out-of-wedlock father plus race-mixer.

Good question, Rob---Republicans seemed to have some success with it against McCain in 2000.

Republicans said McCain wasn't tortured and that he's been lying all these years back in 2000?

I don't remember that tactic...

"I don't remember that tactic...."

You were fourteen at the time? I believe that.

The entire story was the McCain collaborated with the enemy and betrayed his buddies in order to receive special treatment while in Hanoi.

McCain's physical problems were explained as the result of his being shot-down. Oh, yes---He was a poor pilot for having been shot down in the first place.

All of these stories and more were advanced by pre-Bush Republicans in advance of the 2000 South Carolina primary.

Fourteen in 2000? Well congratulations, you can vote this year.

McCain was

A: Son of the CINPAC Admiral during war-Hence, Easy captivity.
B: A puss for being captured...alive.

Grampy McSame is as much a hero as I am...not at all.

You were fourteen at the time? I believe that.

Or 21... But i'm betting you care little for facts...

I'm sure McCain will call him a 'gook' and then thank him for his support.

"Or 21... But i'm betting you care little for facts..."

14, 21, or 51, it doesn't change the fact that Rove and the Bushies already used the denigration of McCain's service as a tactic, so don't waste a lot of energy trying to climb up on that high horse.

I would like to know which one of you dumb fucks think time in the Hilton was easy time. Torture? you call waterboarding torture? Read some of the printed material or talk to some of the people whom endured the pain the NV dished out. Its to bad the stinking cunt traitor Fonda didnt have to go through some of it. A mistake say you that we were their in the first place? It is a shame that you bleading hearted liberal fucks ever got a toe hold in this nation. And even more of a travisty that you are in positions of power this is all ok though for in the end you shall reap what you have sown.

"I would like to know which one of you dumb fucks think time in the Hilton was easy time."

Uhm, no one.

Good Lord, where do they come from?

In all of our debates, he never admitted that the war was a mistake.

And he still won't.

Not recognising or admitting an error?

Remind you of any chimps ya know?

Vietnam was a mistake.

Iraq is a mistake.

A vote fer McAncient would be a mistake.

G08ama!

Be Well.

I would like to know which one of you dumb fucks think time in the Hilton was easy time.

How easy yer time was there depended on how important they thought you were and how stubbornly you fought back.

McCAin was the son and grandson of Admirals.

McCain was/is a pussy who capiutulated quickly.

There was no "easy" time at the Hanoi Hilton.

That sed, McCains time was merely "easier" than most.

Spud believes that McCain has deliberately over-exageratted the stories of his time in captivity and over the years those stories have grown from half truths to full on lies cynically cultivated to befit his political persona.

No hero.

/Yes, hotlinked. Wotchu gonna do about it?

Im not voting for John McCain but I believe every word of his suffering and torture at the hands of the North Vietnameeese. I doubt anyone would make up these kinds of stories besides you can see his limited range of motion in his shoulders and his legs.

Bush ran away from service to his country and is a true traitor.

" besides you can see his limited range of motion in his shoulders and his legs."

Of course he's got "limited range of motion", he's 71 years old for chrissakes.

This is an endorsement that John McCain doesn't need.

His ex-jailer, and now friend, just called McCain a liar.

Friends like this he can do without.

Damnnnnnn SanAntonioRogue. Where is Rob's response now?? Seems His lips(Fingers) aren't working.

Larry Mohr

We claim we don't torture either. I guess it depends on your definition of the word "is". Stop the waterboarding, now that it is public. My God - how can we publically condone this crap? We don't need to stoop to these tactics to win.

I believe McCain was loyal to his country when he was a POW. Too bad he wasn't loyal to his family after he returned.

Like anyone gives a fuck what you think.

Rob_the_a_hole completely PWNED by Sanantoniorogue.

That's what you get for challenging what was already well-known in the news eight years ago.

"I believe McCain was loyal to his country when he was a POW. Too bad he wasn't loyal to his family after he returned.

Yeah MWM...if the message was from the republican party it would have had a lie or three thrown in for good measure.
