Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

But that is now what they all seem to do, especially in covering the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Forgetting that the phrase "to lie like a bulletin" is military in origin the reference is to bulletins issued by Napoleon's grande arme -- they print verbatim the happy talk the U.S. military is obliged by the Bush administration to spew.

I think we're in for a shock after January 20th. From what I am able to tell, we haven't actually been doing all that much fighting in Iraq for a very long time now. With a new Administration this may become apparent.

If we haven't been fighting, what have we been doing? Paying protection money and cutting deals.

This bemuses me in that it is so far from the Clausewitzian idea that a war is won when you destroy the enemy's army.

Well, our enemies (plural) armies all remain fat and happy, well-armed and quite undefeated, ready to fight again when that's to their advantage to do.

This is all so bizarre. But it explains why we hear so little from our own goverment regarding how the war is going and more importantly why it is going that way.

Our military has become meals on wheels.
