But then one time he came through town and gave a concert in which he literally encouraged the crowd to physically assault homosexuals the next chance they got. What a hateful doofus.

It would be one thing if these were being sold at a store that catered to African Americans who collect items that remind them of oppression and how far they've come since then.

But, I doubt ANYONE can convince me that Charlie Daniels' clientele remotely fits into that category.

And Charlie Daniels' viewpoints on race are hardly what we'd call progressive. I've heard him utter several blatantly racists comments over the years.

I don't know what else he has said or done, but the remarks themelves, if not innocuous, seem in part debatable propositions meriting response and not dismissal.

Thanks for all the remarks in support of my assault on Charlie Daniels. I'm sure it's not popular, especially in today's political climate, to attack a beloved southern icon but things don't change by refusing to look at ourselves. Mr. Daniels can bemoan the fact that he can't say whatever he wants because people call him a bigot. Still that doesn't make him less of a racist.

Until we can truly judge every individual based solely on merit we'll have this problem. It's impossible to lump groups of people together and adequately define an issue.

I don't mind if he bashes lifestyles (homosexuality) but when you bash someone because they are born black, then I have a problem.
