Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Georgia Republican Party chairwoman Sue Everhart said Saturday that the party's presumed presidential nominee has a lot in common with Jesus Christ. "John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either."

yea mccains just as old ;)

That's some kind of retarded statement. A very special kind.

I thought Chimpy was the Rtard God???? What give in Georgia. Tennessee better not find out or we'll have ourselves a shootin' war!!!!

I'd love to see the entire quote, but it sounds like it just keeps getting dumber and dumber as she keeps talking...

"John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross,"

followed shortly by:

I'm not trying to compare John McCain to Jesus Christ"

Wow...

John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross

Dying?

God, guns and gays....

Crucify him!!!!

Easy there, Danni. It wasn't humanity's proudest moment.

I disagree. I don't think Jesus Christ would ever crash a plane. Also I don't think Jesus Christ would have flip flopped so much either. Nor would Jesus Christ cheat on His first wife.

Larry Mohr

"Nor would Jesus Christ cheat on His first wife."

But he sure had a lot of boy friends.

If they have an "R" behind their name, and are willing to bomb civilians, men, women, kids, grampas and grandmas who live neath the boot of a despot then they are exactly like Jesus.

Cause Jesus on the cross gave his great endorsement for preemptive bombings and invassions and ocupations.

Riiiiiiiight.

***** GOP Chair Compares McCain to Jesus ******

.......so that would make Obama ......the Anti-Christ ??....

No one has any idea what Jesus was like or would do. Youu all are full of shit and are projecting your own viewpoints onto what you would like Jesus to actually have been like. The New Testament is not a historical document and none of the authors of the four gospels even knew Jesus. In addition, I highly doubt many of you loons have read any of the books not in the St. James Bible nor have you ever read the gospel in their original language which is Greek.

Why does the GOP hate Jesus so much?

"John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross,"

Right down to that crown of Botox.

Disciples, Danni.

God revealed His nature through His Son. Look at Him: Prince of Peace, died for others without having fault of His own, taught, healed, loved, found lost sheep--is it rocket science to some people to see the best in humanity through Him?

Jesus was not a warmonger, nor was He violent. He did say that His kingdom was "not of this earth."

Now that I've seen about 60 years of this earth, I tend to believe Him. He was too good for us--but He invited each of us to follow Him. And made it possible for us to do so.

The cap pronouns are an editing formality that embodies respect.

I thought it was King James oh well shit happens.

Larry

Both look terrible in HD?

Jesus hung out with trollops. John McSame married one.

Jesus got lost in the desert for 40 days. John McSame hasn't a clue about the ME either.

"nor have you ever read the gospel in their original language which is Greek."

Which is exactly why we run into problems like these:

In the Romans passage often used to condemn homosexuality, the Greek words "physin" and "paraphysin" have been translated to mean natural and unnatural respectively. Contrary to popular belief, the word paraphysin does not mean "to go against the laws of nature", but rather implies action which is uncharacteristic for that person. An example of the word paraphysin is used in Romans 11:24, where God acts in an uncharacteristic (paraphysin) way to accept the Gentiles. When the scripture is understood correctly, it seems to imply that it would be unnatural for heterosexuals to live as homosexuals, and for homosexuals to live as heterosexuals.

Or in 1 Cor. 6-9 the use of the word "arsenokoitai". Greek scholars don't know exactly what it means -- and that fact is a big part of this tragic debate. Some scholars believe Paul was coining a name to refer to the customers of "the effeminate call boys." mentioned earlier in the passage. Something sort of like dirty old men. Others translate the word as "sodomites," but never explain exactly what that means.

In 1958, for the first time in history, a person translating that mysterious Greek word into English decided it meant homosexuals, even though there is, in fact, no such word in Greek or Hebrew. But that translator made the decision for all of us that placed the word homosexual in the English-language Bible for the very first time.

Who would Jesus torture? And where is McBush on that issue TODAY? One of the DR's most rigid righties sputters and fumes that none of us knew what Jesus was about. I presume that this guy's Jesus hated taxes and gays, espoused wars and fetal rights; I visualize JC as having cared about PEOPLE, which Repubs never do, and suffering the fate that "His" ilk have suffered ever since: crucifixion. herm

Who gives a shit. It's all fantasy anyways. I'd rather read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy or even Everybody Poops. There's more factual info in any of those books...especially Everybody Poops.

Well, how does Romans Chapter 1, verses 24-32 translate from the Greek? Seems pretty clear to me. I do not choose to judge homosexuals, but I believe they do give themselves over to passions that are not very dignified. I came to the same conclusion about the porn industry and all it wants us to be interested in. It'll get you a woody, but then there seems to be some kind of degradation of the human being as a consequence. Just my view.

I disagree. Jesus would not have called his girlfriend Mary Magdalene and the mother of his child a "cunt" or a "trollop." He had much more class than that.

Virgin alert...

I dunno, Larry. I'll bet anyone who got their hands nailed to a board would do some serious flip-flopping. The only thing that would break the contortionist's curse would be the fact that your feet were nailed to another board. So just think of McCain as being two nails and one board short of Jesus.

Doc,

Yeah, but Jesus Christ had a well-documented temper problem, if you ask the money changers union!

really? you speak ancient Greek? You sure you have that translation EXACTLY correct do you? And do you really think that heterosexual passions are more dignified than homosexual passions? Really? Are you doing it right? Or are you confining yourself to the "missionary position just to be "dignified".

I gotta admit (true confessions here) that I have had some "undignified" heterosexual sex! Ladies are you with me? Any high fives for undignified heterosexual sex?

Give me a break. Just because two souls that love each other happen to have the same genitalia does not make it a sin regardless of what your little black book says.

Undignified passions.... never heard such a hilarious thing...

Abraham's God would have thrown homosexuals into the Abyss

Which might help account for why it was necessary to come up with a new God.

Ah, another one who thinks they know God and God's mind. What a surprise you have in store. But rest assured, you will be "warmly" received when the time comes.

Sorry but God does not have a mind. That is a human concept. God is Divine

Sanantonio. there is no such thing as hell either. It is a human concept invented by fools for fools

Timbci,

Divine is also a human concept, so we're getting nowhere fast!

Homosexuals are responsible for the inability to ptevent the spread of pink eye

Moses would disagree with you

How do you know?

If I had my way America would have a state religion just like Patrick Henry wanted

Well, if that had happened we'd all be Episcopalians. Better than Baptists, I guess.

Ok...that woke me up. Mr. Timbicile...in your world, what would happen those citizens of your little theocratic paradise that had, say...no religious beliefs or believed something else in direct conflict from the approved "state" religion? Hmmmm?

That cracking sound is the thin ice you're skating around on.

So you hate the Constitution, do you?

"GOP Chair Compares McCain to Jesus"

Oh c'mon, Johnny's not a day over 900.

This article explains why whenever I hear McCain speak lately, I mutter to myself, "Jesus Christ".

...John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross....

I can think of one difference --

Jesus Christ threw the moneychangers out of the people's Temple.

McCain, in keeping with Bush's policies, would welcome all the moneychangers into the people's Temple -- along with bankers, lobbyists, special interest groups and Wall Street brokers. Then, after he privatized it, McCain would sell off "Temple, Inc." to the highest foreign bidder he could find.

Well, maybe compared to GW, McCain may seem Jesus~like:>)

BUSH ON TORTURE

Remember that George W Bush used to blow up frogs as a child, executed more people in Texas than any other governor and is responsible for over one million civilian deaths in Iraq ~ so torture, by comparison, is easily condoned by Bush

Jesus had a drug addict for a wife that stole from the poor to support her drug addiction as well?

Who knew!?!?!

John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross,"

Well, Johnny can't turn water into wine, but he can show up with a few cases of beer from his drug addict wife's company. I guess he really is jesus!

And they say Obama supporters have been drinking too much Koolaid. . . .

If I let myself get started it will never end. OMG

It is an interesting way to tear down the wall between Church and State. Sure don't think McCain would volunteer to be crucified for that mission, however.

"GOP Chair Compares McCain to Jesus"

At least McSame isn't a myth for stupid, worthless, superstitious morons.

Zatoichi-
McSame isn't a myth of course, but the lobbyist-free-straight-
talking-maverick-McCain is a myth for stupid, worthless, superstitious morons.

How about those of us who are, from long experience, quite sure that Christ was ressurected and offers us genuine, palpable salvation? Would anyone be a moron to lay hold of this?

I will grant this: Many, many people call themselves Christians and reveal nothing of Christ's nature or teachings. History's full of these types and their deeds, from torture and murder to environmental irresponsibility and unbridled greed.

God's still working on a lot of people, though, who sincerely accept Christ in their lives. I see results, and I don't call them stupid, worthless, or morons. I give them credit. "The road to destruction is broad, and many there are who go by it. But straight is the gate, and narrow is the path, that leads to righteousness, and few there are who find it." It's about character, strength, love, patience, and so many other desirable traits. Christ is the way, and I testify to this.

Wow...a thread on DR so lefties can bash both God and Mac.
Multiples O's all around!

I liked that one. FF!

JIMI-
Good to see you back on the DR. In my view, both you and NANC bring important pieces to the whole Christ issue.

Let me explain.

Christ/God is more than any single one of us can aptly define. We like to put him in a box at times... our understanding of what He is, how our faith in Him should manifest itself in our lives, etc.

You emphasize the forgiveness, humility, compassion part of Christ. And he most certainly preached those things in spades.

NANC, at least from what I've come to determine from most of her posts, is emphasizing the warning part of Christ - the part which implores us to turn from our ways and turn to Him... the failure of which is death (life apart from Him).

Scripture is replete with both yours and NANC's perspective.

Could/should NANC display more compassion for the lost? My personal opinion is 'yes,' not only because it would help her arguments be more credible, but also because Christ implores us to do so. It wouldn't mean agreeing with her 'enemies' - God's word is clear.

By the same token, purposeful failure to acknowledge the credibility/validity of NANC's Scripture references displays another version of that "box" we like to put God in. In your case, emphasizing the compassion/forgiveness piece to (largely) the exclusion of the warning piece.

But it's stretch for me to ever call someone out on their claim of Christianity. You're both Christians. Like with politics, we all sort out our own beliefs over time. I agree with her on her stance... just as I agree with you on the compassion piece. The two don't need to be mutually exclusive.

This is crazy.....

Sue Everhart should be forced to take (and pass) a good science class along with anybody else that believes in spooks and the like.

Oorah, thank you. I don't forget the warning side of Christ--I'm dealing with a situation like that now with a guy I know. God's going to put him in the gutter eating out of trash cans pretty quickly if he doesn't come around, and he'll look back and be astonished at what he lost. I'm going to warn him one more time, but I gotta get his wife and kid out of the house to safety first.

I'm not going to mince my words. But I will remain compassionate. He'll make his choice, and then he'll learn what it's like to live with it. But cursing God and drinking gallons of whiskey--I'm not all that encouraged. I surely won't waste more time on him than the Lord deems sufficient.

When the scripture is understood correctly, it seems to imply that it would be unnatural for heterosexuals to live as homosexuals, and for homosexuals to live as heterosexuals.

That's a really interesting interpretation. An uncharacteristically pyschological bit of verse for the bible to boot. The idea being be true to yourself. Almost brings tears to my eyes the possibility that the bible could actually say something like that.

Fits better from the "judge not lest ye be judged" perspective as well.
