Israel and Syria on Wednesday said they were holding indirect peace talks through Turkish mediators -- the first official confirmation of contacts between the longtime enemies.

In statements issued minutes apart, the two governments said they "have declared their intent to conduct these talks in good faith and with an open mind," with a goal of reaching "a comprehensive peace."

Good news if they can keep it up, but it will be hard for Isreal to give up the Golan Heights, which is a deal-breaker for the Syrians.

And so that there is no confusion about my "deal-breaker" comment amongst the mouth-breathers on the DR (both Left and Right), if the Isrealis won't agree to relinquish control of the Golan Heights to Syria, Syria will never agree to peace with Isreal.

YEAH! Why does Israel love terrorist? Why are they negotiating with terrorists? Why do they hate America and the Bush Administration so much?

"Damn those appeasement-loving Israelis!"

"Good news if they can keep it up"

YEAH!

Except by Your Own Much Exalted Saviors Definition this is called "Appeasement"!

"Damn those appeasement-loving Israelis!"

Yeah! What a bunch of Nazis!

Appeasement, appeasement, appeasement -------- sqwaaaaaak!

HANNITY: Well, I also think that there's another issue here, and if he's going to meet with Assad of Syria, if he's going to meet with Kim Jong-il, if he wants to meet with Ahmadinejad -- you know, what is the first question we're going to ask Ahmadinejad, the holocaust denier who repeatedly stated he wants to wipe Israel off the map? What's the first question we could ask him?
GINGRICH: Well, let me tell you. The first thing I was briefed this afternoon by somebody who pointed out that maybe as many as half of all American deaths in Iraq have been caused by the Iranians. We know that the Syrians and the North Koreans are trying to build a nuclear facility in Syria and lying about it until it was destroyed by the Israelis.
So when Senator Obama says that he wants to meet without precondition with three of the worst dictatorships on the planet, I think there's a lot to ask him about why isn't he, in fact, remarkably like the isolationist senators of the 1930s?
HANNITY: Well, you know, and it's funny because they're trying to say, well, Reagan did the same thing when he met with Gorbachev. That was after he unilaterally built up our military, moved to deploy Pershing II in Europe, pursued as the I Strategic Defense. So there's a great difference and distinction, right?
Sqwaaaaak!

I think that is known as the "big lie."

Where is FuckWadTom? He needs to be here to finally learn the look of true appeasement. Olmert is reported to have agreed to give back the Golan Heights in order to proceed with the peace talks. That is appeasement, not simple willingness to talk with an opponent.

I was briefed a few minutes ago that Newt has the sex organs of a small mouse and regularly wears women's underware and high heels to church.

Fox News, you gotta love them!!

"women's underware(sic)"

Here's old Ben now.

I guess Israel figured out it has sucked as much out of Bush as it's going to get. Now they'll have to stop dreaming about Operation Syria Liberation and get on with negotiating a deal.

The real irony of this is that Olmert was already in negotiations when Bush was on his appeasement rant. I guess we should just be grateful the jews didn't make George do his dancing monkey act like the saudis did...

I guess Israel figured out it has sucked as much out of Bush as it's going to get. Now they'll have to stop dreaming about Operation Syria Liberation and get on with negotiating a deal.

I think this is exactly right, but fear that Olmert is too weak to be in a position to work out anything that involves giving the high ground (literally) to the Syrians.

Once again, redcocosamiamvile finds a quote that has marginal relevance to the topic at hand...uncanny.

if it fails ....

Bush's fault
