Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

After eight years of stalemate and periodic tension, Israel and Syria announced Wednesday that they have launched "serious and continuous" indirect peace talks aimed at ending one of the region's longest-running disputes. In identical statements issued from Damascus and Jerusalem, the rival neighbors said that they are taking part in indirect negotiations with Turkish diplomats serving as mediators.

Gee, I didn't know Obama had been elected Prime Minister of Israel, lol!

......damn those appeasing surrendour monkeys......

......don't they know how to win a war ??........

......ooops.....they won them all ???.......well then they must be doing it to embarrass Bush and the "no-talk" administration........

Israel knows a lame duck when it sees one. They know Bush can't do anything for them, so they're accepting reality and going all Chamberlain.

Of course Bush can't do anything for them. He can't do anything for anyone.

Beat you to it, Arbusto, but obviously RCade liked your title better...

LOL

Talking tops fighting.
Israel will give back what is not his.
Hope it follows suit with the rest of its stolen posessions.

Anyway, welcome to peace, all of you

Syria used to rain down artillery from the Golan into the Hula valley.

I would be incredibly surprised if Israel gave up the Golan for nothing but a signature. "Land for Peace" never works...
www.peacefaq.com

That and there would be no place to ski in middle east anymore...

Damn Obama! Whatever appeasement syndrome he has, he has now given it to the Israelis.

looks like obama and israel ARE friends. :)

if only Clinton had negotiated peace in his last three months

"if only Clinton had negotiated peace in his last three months"

If only the Republicans and scum bag Ken Starr hadn't wasted so much time and money in their attempts to play gotcha politics with the president.
I lost all respect for REpublicans during that era. They put their party first and the country second, which they have continued to do til this day.

Danni,

I agree wholeheartedly that the Republicans went politically vindictive in regards to the Clinton impeachment.

That said, don't lose sight of the following facts:

1. The whole scuttle-butt started during the Paula Jones trial when Clinton was asked about his relationship with Lewinsky and he denied sexual relations - a lie.

2. Parse it all you want, but perjury is a serious offense and one worth investigating.

3. Clinton went to extraordinary effoets to obstruct the investigation and thus add to the taxpayers' tab.

Sending delegates is different then sending your CEO to do the negotiating......dudes.

It might have helped jump start these negotiations when Israel bombed that North Korean load of Nuke stuff that landed in Syria a few months ago.

But don't take these so called peace talks too seriously. The Koran says negotiate while you rest up for the next attack on your enemies. Israel knows this and will take care of Syria and Iran. All we have to do is supply the bombs and fuel.

It's only appeasement when democrats do it. It is wise negotiations by realist, seasoned diplomats when neocons are involved.

Bush's whole 2 terms are nothing but one big fat shitbag of lies, that have fucked this country's economy, military, foreign policy, global stature, etc., etc. Get over Bill's blowjob you complete and total dumbass.

Syria (along with a host of other muslim nations)
willfully attacked Israel and got their turbans handed to them.

As a defensive/military tactic, the Israelis took
foriegn land and have held it until now. The Syrians
(as well as the other other muslim aHoles) can earn
it's return by dumping the Islamic Extremist Act.

Fat Chance.

Bush has difficulty speaking with the opposition because---

1) He has difficulty speaking. Negotiation is a sophisticated skill. Bush has little or none of it.

Even when you give the chore to an underling you eventually face a requirement to speak to the underline.

2) Bush made some macho statements many years ago about not negotiating and he has great difficulty letting his pride go.

Adolescent crap, in other words. Just like always. God, when will January 20th get here?

fuckwad

again

let me clear something up because your full of misinformation and dumbassery

"The Koran says negotiate while you rest up for the next attack on your enemies."

the koran explicitly forbids aggression

thus you are wrong
and so are the terrorists
you have a lot more in common with them then you know.

Appeasers,

Well, I can see that there's appeasing going on in Lebanon's deal with Hamas, but I don't see any appeasement in the Israel/Syria business....seems like a good, long-term, healthy deal and it is FULL of preconditions....

Let's see, Israel gives up a chunk of Syrian territory to Syria, and in exchange, cuts off Iranian access to Hamas and ends up with, perhaps, an actual ally in Syria....a fantastic turn of events, if Syria can be trusted, which remains to be seen. No, I don't see any appeasing here...and they only got this deal because they kicked Syrian ass and waited until they found a reason to negotiate meaninfully...ie, fear of Iran....

Looks good.

Jon-so talking to a state that sponsors terrorism is a good thing? (Sarcasm included)

While I agree with you, like the Brits and the IRA, the Fighty Rightys wouls disagree. Unless Syria has oil, like Lybia, then it would be a good thing.

Northguy,

When they come to the table with something blatantly beneficial to you, go for it...See, that's what the preconditions means...A reason to talk with them....Giving up sponsoring terrorism, signing a peace treaty with Israel, which very much is an admission of DEFEAT, and cutting off Iranian access are all very productive preconditions....See, that's why you have them.]

Should Iran come to the table promising to give up nuclear weapons and sponsoring of terrorism and an acknowledgment of Israel, then that would be good reason to talk to them (except that they've been proven liers, but it'd be worth a try)....Until then, what do we have to talk about?

What we've seen over the last week is what Obomba means by "tough negotiations"....not very convincing....

Don't you have a class to teach, Jonjerkinonit?

Another myth prpagated by Obama is that we aren't talking to Iran, North Korea, or Syria. Surely ther are back channel talks going on all the time.

Jon: Iran has said, and the CIA concurs, that they have no nuclear program. Haven't had one since 2003. I agree that Iran should stop supporting hezbollah, just as we should stop supporting MEK. And Bush and Iran are currently in negotiations with Iran over who gets what in Iraq (Appeasement Monkey that he is), so once the badr gang takes over from the sadr gang, things should quiet down in southern Iraq and Baghdad.
Of course, this will only encourage saudi arabia to get al queda in Iraq revved up again in the north.

It's funny that the supposedly defunct hezbollah is now stronger than ever in Lebanon and nobody, not even the Israeli Ambassador to the Retort, has whined in on it. I guess Israel realized Bush ain't gonna liberate any more ME countries so there's no sense in getting their panties in a knot.

........day after Jan 19th.....if all goes well....

"...negotiate while you rest up for the next attack on your enemies."

Sounds like a sneaky, but workable tactic.

Sun-Tzu?

So, Mr. Foreign policy, what exactly were the preconditions before going, hat-in-hand, to beg the Saudis for higher oil output? And yet they also sponsor terrorism which directly affects our troops. I would say whatever Obama has proposed is a hell of a lot more convincing that Bushie boy.
