"Obama is the only major candidate who supports tough, direct, presidential diplomacy with Iran without preconditions."
- Barackobama.com

The statement above is found on the campaign website of Senator Obama and reflects his view -- repeated a number of times by himself in debates and question and answer sessions -- that the thrust of his foreign policy will be personal Presidential engagement with tyrannical regimes across the globe, including Hugo Chavez in Venezuela or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Iran. But the focus clearly will be on Iran as the campaign moves along. Iran is the leading state sponsor of terror and is developing the means to construct nuclear weapons.

What would be the consequences of such a Presidential meeting between President Obama and President Ahmadinejad?

If Obama doesn't even think Iran and other such regimes are a serious threat, why is he so eager to elevate them by holding presidential summits with their rulers?

"What would be the consequences of such a Presidential meeting between President Obama and President Ahmadinejad?"

Or President Nixon and Chairman Mao? Or President Reagan and President Gorbachev?

What would---gasp!---be the consequences?!?

Well you know Danforth, they certainly have a point. I mean, hell, we haven't talked to Cuba in almost 50 years and thats working out super. They're probably going to come around to our way of thinking any second now, I just know it.

"Preparations", like what? Hotel reservations? Flight arrangements?

I could make preparations to fly to Teheran in about an hour. How long would a President Obama need to turn to a guy and say, "Let's go to Teheran"?

I'm looking forward to the day these kind of Obamite mental acrobatics don't cut it anymore to the press anymore. I'm guessing February 2009.

Well, in Reagan's case, his "preparations" for the Gorbachev summit was putting medium-range missiles in Europe, and building a 600-ship navy. Thus when it came time to speak softly, he already had prepared his big stick.
Two weeks ago Obama seemed ready to fly to Teheran or Caracas just because it was a novel thing to do. Now he's backed off, and it's not a bad idea to wonder why.

Before flying to Teheran, doesn't he still have to visit all of the 57 states he talked about. Ah, that may have been taken out of context. He didn't really say that did he? What he really said was 57, but he meant 47 perhaps, oh maybe he meant 49. Oh no, he must have been tired from all the bullshit he's been spewing - CHANGE AND MORE CHANGE - YES HE CAN. So now tell me - what day is it? His answers change every day of the week. Stand by for tomorrow's mystery answer.

Wow. That strawman you created was easily knocked down by you. Well done.

The right has nothing, not one issue that they can brag about. Their policy of not talking to Iran and other nations is an utter, total failure, their only success is where they have talked to other countries. The try to frighten us with words like
"elevate them by holding presidential summits with their rulers?" which really means just about nothing.
I am wondering if there is any way a conversation can cost us over 4000 lives and up to 3 trillion dollars???
The same assholes who brought us the Iraq DISASTER are the same ones now trying to frighten us by saying Obama will talk to our enemies. These people first don't know what the hell they are talking about and second they put their own political agenda ahead of the welfare of the United States. They should not just be ignored, they should be ridiculed at every opportunity. When McCain opens his dishonest mouth he should be silenced by loud obnoxious laughter.

You're welcome. I look forward to knocking down about five years' worth of Obama's strawmen.

Danforth,

Seriously, what strawman?

I don't see it.

Yeah Danni,

you lean left correct?

When McCain opens his dishonest mouth he should be silenced by loud obnoxious laughter.

nice to see the party of celebrating diversity encouraging others to express differing view points for an intellectual debate.
