If not for disrespectful, lazy, cheap ass neighbors, laws like this would be unnecessary. Sadly, some people just don't give a fuck about their neighborhoods so the nanny state has to step in to provide incentives for things people should want do on their own.

I have to agree here. Though, people should mow their g-d damn lawns... especially with property values tanking these days.

Neighbors would have spent alot lest time, energy and money if somebody just went up to the family and said, "Let me mow your lawn." It would be the neighborly, pragmatic thing to do, but this is america.

Don't you think the punishment here is extreme? Putting people in JAIL for not mawing their lawn? How about a ticket? When the police stops you for speeding or because you ran a stop they don't normally put you in jail, unless you are doing something very wreckless, they just give you a ticket and let you go on your way.

Your neighbors lawn effects You greatly. If too long it breeds things like rodents snakes insects bacteria from being too tall and the water not being allowed to evaporate properly mosquitoes to germs.

You don't go to jail the first time, but if you get several tickets in a short period of time they might suspend/invalidate your licence, send you to driving school, or lock you up for a few days.

The people in these cases are given fair warning, ticketed the first time and warned of the consequences. No excuses for being lazy at that point.

HOA rules are decided by the people living in the neighborhood. You should know and read the rules before buying a home in a HOA. If they are too stringent for your standards, don't move there.

Sure, being a good neighbor is the right thing to do, but freedom comes with a price.. As the owner of property, you should be able to do what you want on your property.. If your weeds are spreading to the neighbors, then the government should require you to build fences. That should be the limit of government involvement.. Not tickets and jail.. Its absolutely ridiculous..

As the article mentioned, many foreclosed properties are owned by banks. Lots of these properties are neglected and it is pretty difficult to put a bank in jail. Seems unfair to me to punish individuals but not corporations who commit the same "crime."

I think it comes down to whether somebody wants to live in town or an unincorporated part of the county. If you live in town, you need to follow the city ordnances, and not have long grass, junked cars in your yard, or plywood in lieu of windows. Neglected properties can spread blight, promote crime, and lower property values for everyone else.

If you want a little more freedom, move to an unincorporated area with no ordnances. But do so at your own risk, because you may not get the most respectful neighbors in the world; whether it be overgrown grass or a sex shop :-)

Not always. There are plenty of counties with the same kind of laws. One of them i deal with all the time. If i have a car that is not licensed it has to be in a garage or at least a three walled building and on 4 inches of improved ground. To remove blackberries i need a permit. I must keep control of noxious weed like the ones they plant on the side of freeways. Until recently i couldn't have a rain barrel without a permit. I cannot use 65% of property as that must be kept natural as a watershed for a city 35 miles away. No piles of wood, no scrap, or anything else that they deem useless. I need a permit to do any teraforming. Our septic systems need to have a pump because the ground percolates TOO FAST. The average cost of administrative fees for a building permit is almost 200,000 in some areas which i would have to wait for a year to get anyways. But i digress, it's not just the cities that are a pain.

Hmmm. If your neighbor's weeds offends you, a can of gasoline and a match, late at night, might send a good message. And if you happen to have an old wooden cross lying around........
