Here's to a speedy recovery Senator.

Something about his unusually shaped head, perhaps?

Of course you wish this kind of tragedy on no human being.

God be with him and his family.

The article said Kennedy will be undergoing chemo and radiation so any long term survival does not look good. He will not be back as a Senator with that diagnosis and at his age.

Damn...
hopefully this thread doesn't devolve into something similar to that cheerleader death story a couple of weeks back.
A poster named cheerfan had to berate us back to good behavior.

I can't imagine a 76 year old doing well after radiation and chemo.

He will not be back as a Senator with that diagnosis and at his age.

Posted by CalifChris

hadn't thought of that... doesn't bode well for the dem majority in the senate.

Lieberman's power just increased by 25% at least.

I suppose his death will be slow and painful.

God Bless Teddy.

.....Doctors said that once the tumor eats more than half his brain......Kennedy will be qualified to be a Republican......

Only took two posts for the class to show.

Poor bastard. Brain cancer is uniformly fatal. It usually starts elsewhere in the body (breast or liver) and then colonizes to the brain.

Most people live less than a year after diagnosis -- regardless of treatment.

Kennedy always advocated socialized medicine, but is now enjoying the best private care on Earth.

A political lion. Good luck to him.

I don't like his politics or care for some of the positions he has taken against the Republicans, but I wish him well. I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone.

I have always respected Sen. Kennedy for championing the poor and blue collar workers given the life of privilege that he has had.

I have a friend who survived (thus far) this type of tumor, but he was in his 30's when diagnosed. At 75, I don't think that Teddy has too much time left.

They are explaining his brain tumor on Fox with a doctor.

What is the survival rate for radiation on brain tumors?

home.earthlink.net

1 in 250,000 or zero--but there are miracles.

This is a grim diagnosis.

Prayers to him and his family--I agree with nothing of his policies and especially on pro-life issues, but this is grim indeed.

Murphy

I just lost a school chum to brain cancer. A terrible way to go. God be with him.

"I'm really sad," former Sen. Bob Kerrey, D-Neb., said when told in a Senate hallway about Kennedy's condition. "He's the one politician who brings tears to my eyes when he speaks."

so do I whenever someone as far to the left as he is speaks

fat drunk Teddy the unrepentant murderer has brain cancer.

Life is funny sometimes

Millions and millions of Americans, if diagnosed with the same problem would bankrupt their families before they died due to lack or insurance. Ted Kennedy was on Senator who tried to do something about that.

Ted has lived a long life, something that none of his brothers had the opportunity to achieve. He brought hope and solace in the form of real legislation to millions less fortunate than himself.

God bless and keep him during his coming ordeal.

He's older than McCain....Run him out of office.

really? ... let's see how you end up after all is said and done...

I agree with Danni and LCL at least he tried to do something with his life that he believed in. He stood up against the Republican power machine and he stood for the middle class and blue collar worker of America. I don't always agree with any Politician as most of them are corrupted by the system.

But, at least he has tried and won a few good battles in his day. And it is not over yet for Teddy... let's see how gracefully he exits the stage of life...he may have a thing or two to teach us yet!

I SAY...Good Show Teddy... Good Show!

Donnerboy

Ted never backed down from what he believed, no matter how unpopular. He was a democrat always but worked with all stripes of republicans.

He will be missed and certainly never replaced.

Prayers to him and his family.

Senator Kennedy, is an has been a truly great Senator for the people of his State. He has been a great Representative of the united States. Nothing you dim witted idiots on the right will change that.

No matter what your Politics, to wish harm on this man whos family gave so much to this Nation. Is just pathatic, I know that those who feel this way about Sen. Kennedy, you should be ashamed of your self. May God forgive you for your ignorance....

This could explain a lot about his ideas. It does not explain why anyone ever listened to him....

They should study the effects of alcohol on arresting of brain-tumors, though...I think he's been fighting this for a lot longer than people think....

Why? You think Massachussetts will elect a Republican, when even Mississippi won't?

Jon Ryker's posts in most other threads lead us to believe that he is not the brightest bulb which is forgivalbe but his post here just makes him look like a classless boob.

"This could explain a lot about his ideas. It does not explain why anyone ever listened to him....

Posted by jonryker at 2008-05-20 02:13 PM"

Really? What's your excuse then, asshole?

The only time that Kennedy's seat will matter will probably be after the election by which time another Democrat will probably be sitting in his seat of the Senate. Til then the Dem. majority in the House will prevent anything of consequence from happening, even the Dem majority will be ok because he probably won't resign before a replacement can be selected.
In Mass. does the governor appoint a replacement or will there be a special election?

Donnerboy,

May be, but I don't drink appreciably, so there wouldn't be much value in that study...

You better start drinking or you won't make it to 75 like Teddy did! I am pretty sure you have a tumor with rantings like this...

Posted by jonryker at 2008-05-20 12:41 PM

Montecore,

What, you're listening to me? I'm flattered!

Danni,

So, you think that it's ok for Ted to murder chick and walk away, but not ok for OJ, or are you an avid OJ supporter?

Donnerboy,

Rantings? Just a question really...Doc was having trouble with colors and race....I'm a teacher, so I tried to help....Still, no teacher can effectively teach the unwilling...

This could explain a lot about his ideas. It does not explain why anyone ever listened to him....

You'd probably discover similar conditions existing in ANY liberal you examined.

"Montecore,

What, you're listening to me?

Posted by jonryker at 2008-05-20 02:28 PM"

Yeah, in the same way people can't help but look at a car crash when they drive by.

Here is a case of a man who found his calling and, despite some serious problems in his younger years has become the leader he was meant to be. I hope he beats this as he has overcome so many other, crippling events in his life. Get well soon, Senator!

And you are funny.....never.

Montecore,

So, failing to respect murderers is a cause for horror, then? Does that mean you're an OJ fan too?

Then again, and tell me if I'm wrong, I'm guessing you're in favor of murdering babies on demand as well, right? If not, I apologize for painting with too broad of a brush, but there does seem to be a pro-murder angle emerging here..

Funny, because obviously you are reading his posts. But Alzheimer's does strange things

"That gave us organized crime"

Prohibition of alcohol caused lots of crime and lots of opportunities, prohibition on other substances does the same thing today.
But hell, both are still more honorable than laundering money for Hitler....as Bush's grand daddy did.

"But Alzheimer's does strange things"

Ronnie Raygun and his WarrrrONNNNNDruggggs proves.

bout time, now lots of women will be safe

Despite our differences, which are legion, I wish him the best. That's got to be a tough thing to have to deal with.

The difference is that the Kennedy family paid off Mary Jo's family -- with a hush clause. They made $1 million on the deal.

I believe I asked him the same question the other day and never got an answer. I suspect I know why.

I'll take booze over the Bush family's Nazism.

Jomana,

Good one! Did you graduate? You sound like the angry kid who, in spite of never studying, paying attention, or thinking, is shocked that they do not graduate....

The Kennedy's gave us what, exactly? Bootlegging, damn near nuclear annihilation, Communist Cuba, escalation in Vietnam, numerous affairs with tramps, plane wrecks, using FBI to fight family mob battles, crooked election victories....lending verbal and political support to terrorists and their appeasers.....yeah...they will be missed, by our enemies

Nulli,

Oh, that's what they're calling getting drunk, driving into a creek, and running away instead of bailing said chick out.....Well, you guys dont' consider dismembering babies to be murder either, so I think you're all a bit weak on the subject, which may explain your worship of young Teddy here.

"The difference is that the Kennedy family paid off Mary Jo's family -- with a hush clause. They made $1 million on the deal."

Any proof???
Post a link.

Ryker - so, by your logic, Laura Bush is OJ's equal, right? If not, why not?

"The Kennedy's gave us what, exactly?"

Enforcement of integration laws....oh, but I forget you'd think that is a bad thing.

He has said so in the past on this site.

I do not agree with statements that put down any man who is suffering like this. However, your posts are exactly the same on every thred. You hate Republicans, that is nothing new.

It took a whopping 10 posts before shitstick threw out the first insult. You followed soon after with your "dim whit idiots on the right' comment.

I respect Senator Kennedy and wish him the best of luck. You on the other hand are still an asshole.

"And you know this how? Any proof? post a link

Do a little homework. You can choose to believe it or not, but there are dozens of links and stories out there.

www.guardian.co.uk

He said he teaches school but I haven't seen a post that says public school and there is a difference.

Sad for Teddy and those close to him. He's probably at the end of his life, so I hope that his last days aren't painful or miserable.

The comments from a couple/few right leaning posters bashing Kennedy are hardly representative of the whole group, any more than the inevitable classless comments that would be spewed by the left should a Republican bite the dust.

"Dozens of links and stories out there" There are links and stories about little green men living on the moon but only Boob believes them. Until you can provide some facts to back up that statement it is nothing more than another jackass spewing more shit. Thats the problem with some of you Liberals, all you want to do is spew hate speach and can never back any of it up with real facts. Thats why Bush will never be impeached or tried in court, because you have no evidence other than your hatred of all things Republican.

I have a restraining order out for 3,000 miles.

Socialistas,

Yes, I'm a public school teacher in the inner-city. I teach (whisper) "black people"....and (don't have to whisper) trailer trash. I do this by choice, because I find it more interesting, more important, and more rewarding than being an engineer, which is what I used to be. I am not, in spite of ravings to the contrary on this site, a Republican. I am a Conservative. There's a big difference these days.

It is not because Ted Kennedy is a Democrat that I don't respect him. It is because he is a murderer and a drunk, and comes from a longish line of criminals, womanizers, drinkers, and bad public servants....I for one, will not miss him. I'm not happy about his brain tumor....I simply am not saddened by it. He's had his run....

I do miss Daniel Moynahan, who was liberal, had an excellent brain, explained himself thoroughly, and clearly intended his political efforts to help Americans as a whole. What's more, his ideas often were GOOD ones. Ted Kennedy was none of these things....So, I won't miss him.

You can hold all the pity-parties for him you like. Just don't expect me to attend any of them....I'm not in to royal families and their exploits.

That sucks...

"Until you can provide some facts to back up that statement..."

There are facts in the news stories. Get off your lazy butt and do your own research. Or if you don't care enough to do that, put a lid on it. Hell, one of the stories (with facts) that comes up pretty early is from Fox News. Go figure.

So enough about that. Didn't mean to go off thread.

OK he answered, that's all I wanted. Teaching inner city school kids is probably tough work and I respect that. I was just curious.

"and that you are never closer than 1,000 feet to any children."

This kind of thing cracks me up because for all the hatred of Ted, what's the worst thing you can say about him? He gave your money to the poor? He helped old ladies buy groceries with your money? As far as I recall, he was never involved in a scandal involving public funds or actions. Maybe his personal life wasn't so exemplary, but who's is?
It reminds me of the Right's hatred for Hillary and Al Gore. They never seem to have a real concrete reason for it.
Yet of course there's no shortage of praise for Reagan who we know for a fact illegally sold weapons to Iran.

Montecore,

Excellent point about me posting in school hours. Certainly, if this were a normal teaching job, I wouldn't have time for such matters.

That is true, because this year I don't have specific classes to teach, but move around the building teaching kids and teachers as needed. It's sort of a sabbatical, but I wanted a broader perspective on what was happening, rather than just the view from my room.

Anyway, because I'm doing this, I have some days during testing and such where there isn't much to do and there are times during the day where I'm back in my office.

Your concerns are legitimate. I hope I've responded to them satisfactorily.

Lost a friend to the same.
Good luck.

Get over it already. Like I said yesterday, when Reagan died libs trashed him and danced all over his grave. You are making it seem as if libs are incapable of this type of behavior and you are wrong, wrong, wrong. Just shut up already.

You really believe the Bullshit you type, don't you JonJerkinOnIt?

Fucking teacher! Too Funny!

Something that struck me odd; why do people, when offering condolences to someone of a different political tilt, feel the need to explain that they didn't "agree" with the person whose fallen ill, or died?

I heard Teddy speak once while visiting in the US Senate gallery. I disagree with him on just about everything, and really think that if his last name weren't Kennedy, he'd have gone to prison over the Mary Jo Kopechne episode.

Despite that, I do have to say that he is an engaging and even entertaining speaker. I guess everyone has a good side somewhere.

I don't wish a brain tumor on anyone.

Like I said yesterday, when Reagan died libs trashed him and danced all over his grave.

Reagan sold weapons to one of our worst enemies. Weapons which are probably being used to kill our soldiers right now. What did Ted do equal to that?

Ah yes! Faux news! Every "credible" source of news on THIS "plnaet"!

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In a scathing report on the intelligence community, a presidential commission Thursday said the United States still knows "disturbingly little" about the weapons programs and intentions of many of its "most dangerous adversaries."

Good Job, Sicko!

Is this enough proof for you?

One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998.

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998.

"Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face."
Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998.

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."
Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others Oct. 9, 1998.

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998.

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999.

"There is no doubt that . Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies."
Letter to President Bush, Signed by Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL,) and others, Dec, 5, 2001.

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them."
Sen. Carl Levin (d, MI), Sept. 19, 2002.

He's old and white and if cancer eats half his brain he'd still be a better President than McSame and Bush.

Come to think of it, he would be just like McSame.

Just in case you are not satisified, here is some more.

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002.

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002.

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seing and developing weapons of mass destruction."
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002.

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."
Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002.

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002.

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years . We also should remember we have alway s underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."
Sen. Jay Rockerfeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002,

"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do."
Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002.

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction. "[W]ithout question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. And now he has continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real ...
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003.

NOW THE DEMOCRATS SAY PRESIDENT BUSH LIED, THAT THERE NEVER WERE ANY WMD'S AND HE TOOK US TO WAR FOR HIS OIL BUDDIES??? Right!!!

So I guess all of your Liberal heros are also involved with Bush going to war knowing that there were no WMDs. Or could it be that Bush was the only one who knew that there were not any WMDs. That cant be, you guys are always saying how stupid he is.

It's hard to imagine Washington without Ted Kennedy atop the liberal wing of the Democratic Party. I've always hated the way he handled the Chappaquiddick accident, but in the decades since he's been a champion of the downtrodden, the working class, and the social safety net.

If this is as bad as it looks, it will be a huge loss for the country. He's had as much impact on the left as William F. Buckley on the right.

Get well soon, Senator.

whats the matter itsme, nothing else to say? No more of your genious comebacks? You just hate seeing the facts dont you?

"No more of your genious(sic) comebacks?"

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Genious = genius

Thats what I get for typing with both thumbs.

Why would anyone be sad for Sen. Ted Kennedy?

Sen. Kennedy KILLED Mary Jo Kopechne at Lake Chappaquiddick. He took somoneone's life and did not even bother trying to get help for her. He has never showed remorse. He is truly an EVIL man. Sen. Kennedy should have been a convicted felon never having served in the U.S. Senate.

"Senator Kennedy killed that girl the same as if he put a gun to her head
and pulled the trigger" - George Killen ~ State Police Detective-Lieutenant

Detective Bernie Flynn: "I figure,we've got a drunk driver, Ted Kennedy...There are houses on Dike Road he could have gone to report the accident, but he doesn't want to. Because it's the same situation he was trying to get away from at the corner - which turned out to be minor compared to what happened later. Now there's been an accident; and the girl's probably dead."

Is he staying on as senator? And if so, should a person with an aggressive malignant BRAIN tumor be allowed to stay in the Congress, or White House or anywhere in gov't?

Waterboard Kennedy - maybe that'll clear up the old brain tumor.

Oh yeah and he doesn't have a fraction of the intellect of WFB , that comparison is a joke, a big joke like quickly brushing off the murder of Mary Jo Kopechne as an "accident"

I've always hated the way he handled the Chappaquiddick accident

"Except that the WMD's were believed to be there by every credible intel source on the planaet."

Except the actual weapons inspectors.

Kennedy's legacy will be the pompous way he looked down his nose at republican nominees during judical hearings and grandstanded to the liberal idiots...with no relevance; with no effective result or meaningful impact.

what a fool. how embarassing.

Is he staying on as senator? And if so, should a person with an aggressive malignant BRAIN tumor be allowed to stay in the Congress,

Depends on the party and what blog you ask it on

Maybe the brain tumor explains his pro-illegal immigration stance and his support of Obama for president.

Hopefully he will soon be in a place where he can apologize to Mary Jo Kopechne in person for killing her at Lake Chappaquiddick. Then again, this guy is going straight to Hades for sure. Hope they put on the asbestos underwear for him soon.

But in the end, it was your hero who put us in this mess.

By the way Sicko, hows the "spreadin Democracy" thing doing?

See thats where you are mistaken, I am not nor have I ever been a fan of Bush. I was not in favor of going into Iraq. I will defend him when you idiots make false accusations about him without proof to back it up. He does enough dumb shit on his own and really doesnt need your help.

However, I did finish two tours there. The spreading democracy thing as you put it really is better than you are told on the news. Good news does not sell so you wont get that.

"Then again, this guy is going straight to Hades for sure"

....most people call it Hell Utastaff calls it Hades... unhhhhhhhh huh

See thats where you are mistaken, I am not nor have I ever been a fan of Bush. I was not in favor of going into Iraq. I will defend him when you idiots make false accusations about him without proof to back it up. He does enough dumb shit on his own and really doesnt need your help.

Apparently, neither do you

Ted Kennedy, the last surviving Kennedy son of that era represented an important change in America that Barrack Obama is the perfect example of. The nasty remarks that some make and the outright hatred that some feel is nothing new to him or his family. Since Bobby Kennedy forced Gov. Wallace to back down and allow desegregation in Alabama the Kennedy name has been hated throughout the entire racist community. So thoroughly did they develope their hatred that even many who have gotten used to racial integration and who are today not even racists still have not lost their hatred for all things Kennedy. I can think of no living politician that I have more respect for and even love for. When the end comes for this "Lion of the Senate" I know I will truely be saddened, I have admired him and his brothers virtually my entire life. America will not be the same without Ted Kennedy.

"Your concerns are legitimate. I hope I've responded to them satisfactorily.

IF what you say is true, then I applaud what you do for a living. (Even if you are now a confessed gold-bricker on the public dole.)

Why would anyone be sad for Sen. Ted Kennedy?

Posted by utastaff at 2008-05-20 04:48 PM

Because he has an inoperable brain tumor and he has done some great things for your country.

What have you done with your life little man?

oh and hey...I am also sad for you that you have such a little pissy mind that you cannot even use it to see with. WE are all human and WE all make mistakes. Ted has tried to make up for his mistakes. I guess you must be one of those fake plastic Christians, huh?

No forgiveness for the mistakes of others in that little Book of yours?

America will not be the same without Ted Kennedy.

Well, that's true for sure. With his family's presence waning in the public square, it marks the end of an era.

I know two people, a man and wife both in their 80s, who underwent various therapies, but not surgery, for two different types of cancer, and both of whom are now cancer free. I don't know if Sen. Kennedy's affliction is susceptible and responsive to such treatments.

He was a force majeure.

His is an acknowledgement of the moment of truth as death will come as it does to all men. We wish him well, and that he can stave off the effects of his malady as long as possible, and enjoy the remainder of his days, which should be long. We'll take our political victories other than by the default of impairment.

Improve and stay well, Sen. Kennedy.
