Despite glaring evidence to the contrary, some Americans still believe Government is the answer to every question.

Karl Rove dreams about an Obama candidacy.

I dropped $200 playing poker last night at a local club.
I had King/Jack. The flop came King, Jack, Four. I bet big. A donkey to my right stayed in. The turn card was an ace. The donkey to my right bet. I (correctly) figured he had an ace. No big deal. My two pair still good. The river card was another Four. Son of a bitch! His two pair killed mine. I'm still sore.

I hate when that happens!

Murphy

I'm still sore.

On the other hand I won two out of three of the 2 table tournaments I entered last night. Go eat shit Moder8.

"President Bush interviewed on CNN by the best political team on television."

Hey RideOn, what's your problem? Were you trying to be funny.

And for what its worth, based on playing poker for two decades experience has repeatedly taught me that those who boast the most about how much they win usually are the biggest losers. There is some correlation between being a bad player and feeling the need to compensate by claiming imaginary glory. Whatever.

I don't usually drink white wines, but last night I had a real winner. You wine enthusiasts should look for this one. It's an Italian import: Trenton 2006 Pinot Grigiot from Bottega Vinaia I like Pinots, but I usually have the Pinot Noir.

From the label:

"Low yield 15-20 year old vines from two select vineyards high Dolomite Alps are the source of this limited production of Pinot Grigio"

I can't remember what I paid for it or even when I bought it to be honest. But knowing my price range, it was probably between $13 and $30. This is such a good wine, it was probably the higher end.

Anyway if anyone else finds this and tries it or has already tried it, I'd like to hear what you think.

What about me?

I'm a NOBODY!

EDDE--Thats the best qualification that I have heard yet.

One tiny problem, you must put in an entry. That would really help a lot.

Its evident that you have all of the needed certs as you have the only thing that is required-a user name.

So enter OK?

PS-If you wish to send in an entry fee, that can be arranged. It will have nothing to do with the contest but will make me very happy.

Oh, oh. Trouble in Paradise. but we must be kind to them and not emulate their ways, because if we do, they will think less of us. They will follow our example. After all, we are "better," aren't we, whatever "better" means?

MENIEH, Lebanon -- For two and a half days, Hussein al-Haj Obaid lay on the floor of a darkened warehouse in west Beirut, blindfolded and terrified. Militiamen loyal to Hezbollah had kidnapped him at a checkpoint after killing his nephew right in front of him.

Hussein al-Haj Obaid, a Sunni Muslim, was abducted and tortured by gunmen loyal to Hezbollah, the Shiite militant group. "The blood is boiling here," he said.

Throughout those awful days, as his kidnappers kicked and punched him, applied electrical shocks to his genitals and insulted him with sectarian taunts, he could hear the chatter of gunfire and the crash of rocket-propelled grenades outside, where Hezbollah and its allies were taking control of the capital.

He returned to this northern village only after family members won his release just over a week ago by threatening the kidnappers with retaliation. By that time Mr. Obaid, a Sunni Muslim, had gained a whole new way of seeing his Shiite countrymen and his native land.

And so it goes.

Remember, we have our own self-imposed ritual for being kind to these people at Guantanamo. Why? We're locked in mortal combat and we're not going to get any quarter. The Marquis of Queensbury rules are for losers, because this is not a game covered by rules. The winner will win. And the loser will be subject to the gentle ministrations of the winner.

The hot tub is set at 100F.

I don't have a hot tub so maybe this is a dumb question, but when it's real hot out can't you just leave the heater off on the hot tub and have a bubbling unheated tub of cool water to sit in?

Day After "Appeasement" Remark, Ghost of Prescott Bush Hovers Over WH

One day after President Bush likened presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama to those who appeased Adolph Hitler, the ghost of the president's grandfather, Prescott Bush - in an SS uniform, muttering German and gesticulating angrily - has been hovering high above the White House since dawn.

Want to view real misery instead of peripheral concerns over lowlifes, then go to this site. You'll be able to view the tragedy suffered by the Chinese as if you click the days, you'll see groups of photos. The transition from the first day to successive days is instructive.

Now that's very sad, a testimony to the power of nature, and the Chinese organziation and ability to cope with such a massive disruption of life.

Here's the link.

And here are the links on that site to the series of photos. You need to go to the link to access these photos reflecting several successive days of the tragedy. It's best to strat with May 14, and work up to the present.

The resiliency of the human spirit is manifest. The fact that 7000 schools suffered particularly great damage has led to speculation that they were shoddily built. Graft abounds everywhere. I imagine that there'll be a price to pay by whoever is responsible no matter how highly placed he may be.

Stay safe, Obama

In April, former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura telling radio talk show host Alex Jones that Obama was in danger, specifically saying, "Watch out, Barack Obama." And then there was British Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing suggesting, "A black man in the position of president. They would kill him." Just witness the racism in West Virginia during this week's primary. Sadly, it's still alive and well, in a state where the senior senator, Robert Byrd, was a one-time member of the Ku Klux Klan.
And now, with it looking like Obama may indeed be the Democrat's choice to run against Sen. John McCain this fall, one wonders if the Clinton machine might not want to put a wrench in the works. Now, I'm not saying the Clinton machine would silence Obama or use violence, but there is an odd number of bodies six feet under in the wake of the Clinton machine. Ask Vince Foster or certain Arkansas state troopers. Oh wait, you can't.

Good grief, Bani. I recognize that some of you folks buy into preposterous ideas, but the gullibility factor among you is so high, it's difficult to determine from your subjective perspective when you're "funnin,'" and when you've really bitten.

Get a grip. You folks now believe in demons and spectral things? And here, I thought you agreed with Sagan and dismissed this demon-infested world concept.

Ah well.

I suppose when you are torn between your ideological "hate Bush" imperatives, and reality, reality loses out. Is it confabulation, or is it deeper than that?

Rumsfeld On Tape: Terror Attack Could Restore Neo-Con Agenda

Shocking excerpts of confidential recordings recently released under the Freedom of Information Act feature former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld talking with top military analysts about how a flagging Neo-Con political agenda could be successfully restored with the aid of another terrorist attack on America.
The tape also includes a conversation where Rumsfeld and the military analysts agree on the possible necessity of installing a brutal dictator in Iraq to oversee U.S. interests.

Bani, the Republicans would prefer Mr. Obama as a candidate. Why off him?

Oh, the Clinton camp? Well, I'm not privy to their plans. No comment.

Is, however, the past prologue? I don't for a moment believe that the Clintons contrived murders of those who posed a danger to their situation. Nah. I think that Obama will be on the hustings, and then get his just desserts, repudiation by the voters.

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to powerRumours of a link between the US first family and the Nazi war machine have circulated for decades. Now the Guardian can reveal how repercussions of events that culminated in action under the Trading with the Enemy Act are still being felt by today's president

Bani, where do you buy your blinders? Here the whites in West Virginia voted for Clinton, a white, in a lesser proportion than blacks consistently have been voting for Obama, a black, and you conclude that the whites are "racist," while the even more clustered black votes for Obama don't reflect racism?

Huh? I must have missed that class in logic. Is it a reciprocal thing? From your perspective, is the Obama campaign based on exploiting racial preferences based on racial identity??

Gov't Secrecy and the Mysterious Cyber Initative

The Senate Armed Services Committee said a major thrust of the initiative was to inform our adversaries as to the range of potential consequences of a cyber attack on U.S. strategic or national assets. Here's my take MODER8. You are hardly describing a bad beat. So being a sore loser over that hand paints you in a bad light, imho. You're a fucking whiner over a hand that DOESN'T EVEN APPROACH BEING A BAD BEAT. By the way, I'm just stating a fact. The bad beat winner last night was the gentleman that had a king high flush which I beat with my ace high flush. He won the bad beat jackpot so he was reasonably happy. He more doubled his entry fee with his "loss" of that hand. I only am stating facts, by the way, I came in second last night in the tourney :-). The hand you described and whined about doesn't make it sound like you are a veteran long time player like you say.....although I do believe you. It just didn't seem like much of a hand to me for the sound of your great chagrin. SORRY.
