There's a whole fetish scene around fat chicks. First time I stumbled across an online reference to BBW, I'm like, what's BBW? So I clicked on it.

When there was a post about Robert Rauschenberg's death the other day, I was reminded once more how few Drudge Retorters seem to have an interest in or knowledge of the visual arts.

Bob Rauschenberg and Lucien Freud were/are giants of contemporary art, almost the opposite of each other in subject matter and method, but both great observers of the human condition and the times we live in.

Whether prices paid for art are justified is a matter for the market, too influenced by fashion I know, but great works by great artists on the market are comparatively rare, and many are in museums, thank goodness.

So did they bid by the pound?

Actually some BBW's are quite beautiful. As long as they arent grossly obese, a healthy woman is quite hot..And I do know a couple who would put those walking skeleton's on the catwalk to shame..

I think it's time for that woman to put down the remote and quit popping those bonbons in her mouth and get her fat butt outside and start some walking exercise -- miles and miles of walks.

From an art standpoint . . . I think the painting is well done. How it climbed to the millions of dollars is the subject of ones personal taste I assume.

Some spend hundred even thousands on a bottle of wine . . . beer gets the job done though for me for a fraction of the cost . . .

It's all about what rev's you engine I guess so back to reading the Lane Bryant catalog.

What's the cost of the materials, canvas, paint, or whatever, and the brushes, easel and other "supports" needed to enable this "work" to be completed?

Is the pleasure or other emotional or instructive benefit transferred by viewing this "art" in any way comparable to the "value" of what the $34 million could provide in a lifetime of support.

These pretentious gushing "feelers" have really pulled a big "long con" by creating an environment in such attribution of value could even be considered. This gives rise to the question regarding how anyone who could accumulate enough wealth to purchase the painting at that price, could be so gullible. Unless as is often the case, it's a tax scam, or something related to another agenda.

It reminds me of the story of the ship laden with tuna fish. Some 60 years earlier, a dilpaidated ship loaded with canned tuna, sailed into New York harbor. After a survey, it was determined that the vessel was not seaworthy. The cargo was sold in place.

The cargo was traded and retraded hundreds of times. Then a person who had taken a course from a promoter on "How to get rich trading cargo," bought it. Being a relatively young MBA, who had accumulated money in the stock market, and following instructions he had learned in grad school regarding gathering information, he immediately went to the dock with his manually powered can opener, and opened a few cans of tuna.

Every can he opened to sample was spoiled. Stunk. Was inedible.

Despite his experience as a stock trader, the MBA was outraged at the cupidity of the man who had sold him the cargo. He stormed into the man's office, raging and yelling expetives. "You goddamn thief, you +%#@+**^%#." I've always envied the comic strip guys, who could use such symbols. "That entire shipment is spoiled and valueless."

Anyway. Instead of an expression of defensiveness, guilt, or apology, the MBA was rebuked by a stream of verbal abuse issuing from the grizzled old trader that surpassed his own. "You stupid SOB. If I had know you were so dumb, I wouldn't have dealt with you. You don't belong in business."

Then came the ultimate superior sneering statment that put the young pup in his place. "Them fish ain't for eatin', them fish is for tradin."

So, it isn't the essential artistic worth of the painting that makes it valuable, but that some artificial value has attached to it because of manipulation, and that it is transformed into a vehicle for tradin' without having any intrinsic value.

There are con men, and there are con men, and those who concluded this exercise are right up there.
