James P. Rubin: Given his own position on Hamas, John McCain is the last politician who should be attacking Barack Obama.

WH staff told reporters Bush's remarks were aimed at Obama. If you don't believe that, then you have to question whether Bush spoke to the Knesset, whether there is a Knesset, and whether you live on Earth or Tramfalagar.

"George 'I'm Not Quite a Moron But I'm Close' Bush Posted by Doc_Sarvis" Well, maybe if he tries just a little harder he'll succeed at at least ONE thing!

McCain should be talking. Just because you talk doesn't mean you can't walk away from the table and come back to it with your bombers on standby. Funny though that McSame would be such a hypocrite about it.

Dirty traitor! I knew the gooks must've done something to him. Well, that sure did. They up and turned him into The Manchurian Candidate. I don't know about you pansies, but I'm scared. Thank goodness I got my elephant gun stashed behind the door. Keep you blinds closed and shut off your lights. Just in case. Yrs, True Blue American

Rubin: McCain Said He'd Speak to Hamas This would be accurate if that's what McCain actually said. I asked: "Do you think that American diplomats should be operating the way they have in the past, working with the Palestinian government if Hamas is now in charge?" McCain answered: "They're the government; sooner or later we are going to have to deal with them, one way or another, and I understand why this administration and previous administrations had such antipathy towards Hamas because of their dedication to violence and the things that they not only espouse but practice, so . . . but it's a new reality in the Middle East. I think the lesson is people want security and a decent life and decent future, that they want democracy. Fatah was not giving them that." Does deal with them mean talking? Does it mean isolating them like Iran? It can be spun either way.

Chamberlain talked to Hitler repeatedly in the late 1930's. Chamberlain gave explanations through the process: "Hitler doesn't want war" "The Nazis are not anti-semetic" "The Germans have merely 'recovered' their ancestoral Hinterland homelands" "The invasion of Checkoslovakia doesn't mean war is upon us" [after Hitler invaded Poland:] "Gee whiz, Hitler lied". Chamberlain was very optimistic; he ignored the obvious and hoped for the best. He (along with everyone else) did not stand up to the Nazis until they were blitzkrieging their way through Europe. Chamberlain had fantastic motives - he did not want a world war (II) with Germany. But in the end, chamberlain was an appeaser and it emboldened the Nazis.

McCain is looking like Boris Karloff in "The Mummy" these days. He'll probably be lucky to make it to November without kicking the bucket. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ 14809384@N05/2393015694/

Interesting how the next question in this interview is conveniently left out of all these "McCain hypocrisy" story's. Rubin: "So should we -- the United States -- be dealing with that new reality through normal diplomatic contacts to get the job done for the United States?" McCain: "I think the United States should take a step back, see what they do when they form their government, see what their policies are, and see the ways that we can engage with them. And if there aren't any, there may be a hiatus. But, I think part of the relationship is going to be dictated by how Hamas acts, not by how the United States acts." blogs.abcnews.com Hardly without preconditions.

Hardly without preconditions. Ok, so where's Obama's statement saying "no preconditions" on Hammas?

Posted by YAV at 2008-05-16 08:42 PM It's not about Hamas, it's about using McCains comments on Hamas to say he's being hypocritical when he condemns Barry for saying he would meet with Ahmadinejad without preconditions.

Well we certainly know that that not talking thing, and that isolation thing works really well. I mean, just look at Cuba. Its been over 50 years and I'm sure they're going to bend to our will any minute now.

It's not about Hamas, it's about using McCains comments on Hamas to say he's being hypocritical when he condemns Barry for saying he would meet with Ahmadinejad without preconditions. M-kay. He is being hypocritical, and it's not just about McCain's comments on Hamas, it's also his comments on Syria and how important it was sending Powell to talk to them. This when in the same press conference, he was talking about how Syria was aiding Al Qaeda against U.S. Soldier's in Iraq! BTW, you do know that Bush is the one who started this and we've been talking to Iran for a while. We even worked with them during the start of the Afghanistan war. Let's be honest for a moment. There's no substance to this. There is only political expedience based on the knowledge that few will ever look deeper or pay enough attention to understand.

How about those 57 Islamic states that Obama visited. This is a scary comment. How could anyone confuse the United States with Islamic states? This says a lot about Obama's state of mind.
