Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Jeff Masters, a meteorologist with the web site Weather Underground, has uncovered an amazing story related to the cyclone that killed thousands in Burma: The government buried a warning of the impending storm on page 15 of a state-run newspaper.

FINALLY!

It's about time some importance and headline news was given to the massive number of deaths in Burma. All the attention is going to the earthquake in China which is devastating but tens of thousands of people are dying of disease and starvation in Burma because of the corrupt Burmese government which at first didn't allow any foreign aid after this catastrophe and when it did, the government stole the food and first aid supplies instead of giving them to their own people.

The U.S. shipped two huge planeloads of food over there but the Burmese officials immediately stole the food and put it in warehouses for use by their own military. None of it is going to the people who need it.

Laura Bush did try and call some attention to their desperate need over there after the cyclone hit but no one paid any attention. I think our own media gave it about a two day soundbite of coverage. I happened to have heard a longer report about it on talk radio so that's how I knew about how desperate it is over there.

Don't tell me there is nothing the U.S. can do about the way the Burma government is acting -- the government officials either refuse to accept the international aid that has been offered or, when they did, the Burmese government stole the supplies sent over. The U.S. can kick butt by telling the Burmese corrupt government officials we will cut off ALL future foreign aid to Burma if their government doesn't get out and start helping their own people.

Thousands are dying every day over there since this cyclone hit and all I hear about is the earthquake in China. China has plenty of money (ours) to put together rescue teams and supply aid for their own earthquake victims. Something needs to be done NOW to help the people of Burma. They are starving to death.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has been trying to contact the Junta and can't get any of them to even speak with him to discuss the situation.
The key is China Chris, they have business relations with Burma and sell them weapons. If anyone could deal with the Burmese Junta it is them, unfortunately they do have their hands a bit full right now with their own problems.

You're doin' a fine job there Junta-y

If anyone could deal with the Burmese Junta it is them, unfortunately they do have their hands a bit full right now with their own problems.

Yes. Between forced abortions, and executing monks, and attempting to keep every loon in the world from pissing on the Olympic flame as it goes by... they are undoubtedly multi-tasking.

I must admit I am relieved that the tragedies in Burma and China have not led to the usual outcry of "Where is US aid?". Much like China, it is safe to say we too have our hands pretty full these days with our own morasse of crap.

The US levees failed in Katrina. People are building new buildings 12' below a lake and Ocean.

Meanwhile the rest of the Flood insurance rates triples for homeowners in Flood plains all over the US which flood from rain every 100 years or so to pay for the US Fema ignorance.

Katrina was a failure of our nation.

Bottom line. Don't build your house on sand when you can build it high and dry on solid ground.

The failure of aid to reach these people, and the lack of international intervention is a glaring spotlight on the useless of the United Nations...

every comment about how the US should be doing more here goes for the United Nations tenfold in my opinion as this is their charter.

"Bottom line. Don't build your house on sand when you can build it high and dry on solid ground."

Like Oklahoma.

I firmly believe in LAW and LAWS, much to the disbelief of the conservative right. Having said that if you have a Laws or Courts than they must have a purpose for being.

The World Court need to bring charges on the so called Government of Burma, if CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY is still on the books after the NAZI of WWII, than these men that rule that Country must answer, or the World Court just should go out of business!!!!
