Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Retired Justice Sandra Day O'Connor took her family's private battle with Alzheimer's disease public as she urged Congress to speed research and fight the coming epidemic of the mind-destroying illness. "Our nation certainly is ready to get deadly serious about this deadly disease," she told the Senate Special Committee on Aging. "My beloved husband John suffers Alzheimer's. He is not in very good shape at present."

This can only help McCain.

Don't bother with the snowflakes that will be thrown in the trash anyways... them are lives!

The current funding structure for medical research in this country is pathetic and will translate into lost opportunities to lead the world in cures for disease.

It is much better to piss away $10 billion per month into the sand and then ignore and lie about the corruption in the government the US created over in Iraq.

Ok for the record I love O Conner I think She is an awesome person. May not always have agreed with Her but nevertheless She is top shelf. The problem I have is why so many right wingers declare they are against federal funding for illnesses until Theirs gets sick and then oh lets open the floodgates for federal funding. It's a bunch of shit. If Right Wingers declare that federal funding should not happen for these diseases then when they get sick or their loved ones get vsick they can pay for it themselves out of their own pockets. Bunch of God Damned shit if You ask Me.

What declarations, Larry?

Link?

Do your own cut and paste.

How can something non-existent be cut and pasted?

"Do your own cut and paste."

JoMama: If that was in response to my request for a link from you, I mean from Larry, then you seem to have no idea what cut and paste means.

The second the Russians withdrew from Afghanistan, Congress pulled the plug on the Afghan people, setting the stage for the current debacle.

There's always enough money for weapons, but never enough for health care.

Every three days Shrub wastes as much in Iraq as providing health care for every uninsured American would cost per year.

But NOOOOOOOOO, to helping people.

YES to killing, maiming and plundering.

"killing, maiming and plundering"

Worked for Chaca Khan.

Oops, wrong Khan.

Must be Alzheimer's.

You meet new people every day!

How can you misspell "Chaka"?

I'll bet she cxan makker you spell it aijdecbn way she wants.

Saddest concert I've witnessed - I think it was actually Alice Cooper as headliner, but it was either that or Journey - and some bright bulb put Chaka Khan on the undercard - one of those all-day bake-fests at Anaheim Stadium in the 70's - she was booed unmercifully. tsk tsk.

There is no money for his friends in helping America.

Every family is affected by disease. This one, or that one. Cancer or diabetes or Alzheimers or MS or athesma or lupus or heart disease or HIV. Why should Alz be given higher priority than HIV?

Just a question. Here's another: with all the so-called progressive western nations providing government-provided health care, why does it always seem it's up to the United States to do all the research and development for the cures to these diseases? And why can't those governments coordinate themselves better? France could tackle cancer, Britain Alzheimers, the Dutch could take on diabetes, and so on. Why don't they? You can't put every problem at Bush's doorstep.

Hard to feel sorry for O'Conner -- she's one of the ones who put the war monger /tax cutter in office. Bush shows absolute disdain for Congress. Now O'Conner pleads with Congress to provide money for Alzheimer's research ???

RR,

The fleecing of the middle class has been a thirty year political war in which the best interests of labor have been subjagated to the interests of capital.

We need technology, capital and labor to thrive. Our technology has been given away in exchange for cheaper labor. This has yielded huge profits in the short term for a few, but will eventually shrink our markets because wages, in real terms, have been falling for thirty years. Our Labor Unions have been systematically broken. Only Government has the power to balance the interests of labor against those of capital. But, hopelessly corrupted by a privatized communication system, it refuses to behave responsibly.

Obviously, its not all Bush's fault and no one mentioned his name in this thread. He is uniquely incoherent and inept though. Are you just paranoid?

Oh-oh. Looks like we have another Colbert Report logical loop at work here. Let's see...

O'Connor was member of SCOTUS -> SCOTUS stopped recounts in 2000 -> Bush elected -> Bush hates Congress -> O'Connor wants to address Congress -> Pelosi runs Congress -> Pelosi for years = executive committee member of the Progressive Caucus -> Progressive Caucus = a subdivision of the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) -> DSA = U.S. arm of Socialist International -> Stalin was a Socialist too -> Pelosi = Stalin -> Stalin practiced political retribution-> Pelosi should too since Pelosi = Stalin -> As political retribution, O'Connor should not be allowed to address Congress.

Superb, dmnewberg. Thanks for starting us off. This eposiode of the Lib Logic game was particularly enjoyable.
