Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

A powerful earthquake has killed between 3,000 and 5,000 people in one county alone in Sichuan province in southwestern China, reports say. Thousands are feared killed and injured across other areas after the quake, which had a magnitude of 7.8, struck at 1428 local time (0628 GMT).

Plate tectonics blamed.

I thought it was Bush's fault, like always.

God's wrath was unleashed in response to all the Chinese homos.

Hory fruck!!!

It's was the pressure caused by all that lead paint weighing down on China.

Walmart needs to import more Barbellbarbies.

First, you don't think.
Second, this is weak.
Third, it IS Bush's fault.

General Tso is giving a press conference at noon to discuss how they're going to help the people.

Plate tectonics blamed

Yeah, right, cause GOD made a mutable, shaky planet. It's the dalai lama sending a message.

Tso?

Hilarious.

FF.

Awful for the folks--7.8 is pretty big.

It's really inland and away from Bejing.

What is bad for the US is that when Japan and that side of the plate has an earthquake--we get one here in CA.

Reno was recently hit with a quake--damages only.

Really awful--too many deaths.

Murphy

I would question if this is related to the 3 Gorges Damn....it is supposed to cause an earthquake when filled but the epicenter seems to point at this not being the cause this time.

DALAI LAMA`S POWER.....

Tso?

Actually, Rob, General Tso's Chicken is sold in Chinese restaurants across the country, especially Hunan/Sichuan style places.

I'm hoping I'm moved out of California before "the big one" hits.
Of course if it ruins your own house it's always "the big one." I just increased my earthquake insurance coverage. It's been awhile since the ground had started to shake, rattle, and roll around here. We're about due for a fair sized earthquake.

We're about due for a fair sized earthquake.

Man-made carbon emissions will be the culprit.

Isn't General Tso's Chicken (like so many "Chinese" dishes) not a known dish in China? They have no idea why we honor an obscure Chinese general with chicken, other than it's a best-selling takeout dish. Ironically, it's nearly single-handedly what changed my step-father from a racist fuckwit into adoring Chinese culture. Food is the fuel of love, redneck love.

"Isn't General Tso's Chicken (like so many "Chinese" dishes) not a known dish in China? "

That is correct, thought it is a lot closer to authentic Hunan/Sichuan cuisine in ingredients and preparation than a lot of other Chinese-American dishes.

And the pieces of "chicken" may or may not have come from something that once used a litter box.

I met this morning with a group of health care executives from Mainland China. Last night they wanted to try American cuisine so their host took them to a Chinese buffet.

All the food was alien to them -- except white rice

Thanks for the interesting idea, but I HATE them speaking through the entire recording - it's impossible to listen to, otherwise I'm sure it could be quite beautiful.

Nature's version of population control. Ouch!

With first the cyclone apparently killing 100,000 and now this earthquake it appears to me that Mother Earth is cleaning house somewhat, which she does periodically just to remind us who is really in charge. In 1976 a quake in China claimed approximately half a million lives. I think the death toll estimates are probably very low at the moment. Having said that, any loss of life is always sad, and I feel for those people who have lost family.

"We are but visitors on this rock, hurling through time and space at sixty-six thousand miles an hour. Tethered to a burning sphere by an invisible force in an unfathomable universe. This most of us take for granted while refusing to believe these forces have any more effect on us than a butterfly beating its wings halfway around the world." Fox Mulder

"Mother Earth is cleaning house"

Rock on!

Actually it's modern geology; which is in my lifetime.
... plate tectonics ...

Climatology is much older and more short-term.

The olympics just gained a lot of cachet'.

Many have the same feeling here in AZ, Zot.

We don't have to register our weapons here. Maybe that will scare them away.

I do think that America is awfully lucky when it comes to natural disasters. I don't remember ever having the high numbers of casualties that it seems the far east endures from weather, earth quakes and droughts. We are lucky to live where we do and geography does play a large part in our success as a nation whether we like to admit it or not.

Wait for the CA big one, the New Madrid big one, The Yellowstone big one, landslide off the Eastern seaboard, tsunamis.

We've just dodged bullets so far, danni. It's bound to happen sooner or later.

BABUENTHAL i hear ya. I hope you're wrong but I suspect not. I wonder how well we will deal with it.

Judging from Katrina, not too well.

More than 18,000 buried.
More than 12,000 dead.

It could be worse, you could be Burmese.

Just on radio: 30,000.

"The Yellowstone big one"

The should be: The Yellowstone Big One.

When Yellowstone goes anytime soon, well, it'll be "Game over, man! Game over!" for most of the US. And probably for a large portion of mammals on the planet.

"Wait for the CA big one"

It's predicted that in 10 million years, LA will have migrated to more or less where Seattle is today. That'll sure piss the Washingtonians off.

Nor do we in Colorado. But that hasn't worked so far. Plus no judge wanting to keep his/her job will allow the issuing of hunting licenses to cull the Califorkian herds that keep spilling over the Continental Divide. You'd think deserts and mountains would be good barriers to migrating pests. Persistent buggers they be. At least the majority of Texans who come north, arrogant though they may be, stay for a while, leave money, and go back to their Republic. It's a good place for them.
