The cost of mailing a letter goes up a penny to 42 cents on Monday, the latest in what are expected to be annual price adjustments by the Postal Service.

good thing I just bought a book of "forever" stamps.

I pay all my bills, write all my letters, etc. without ever buying a stamp and at 42 cents each the trend will just increase until the US Mail goes the way of the Pony Express.

I agree danni, they should be lowering the price not increasing it.

I also do all letters, bills, without ever using a stamp.

"We can't get enough people to mail letters so lets raise the price to do so........now they are thinking like the democratic congress in majority right now.

I would imagine that the cost of energy and inflation has hit them pretty hard too.

Yeah that book of stamps I bought will last darn near 2 years, I have one bill that does not take electonic payment which is the only thing I mail any more. I have fussed at them and am almost constantly late paying.

And yeah Ray considering that gas has gone up 33% in one year a 2.4% increase in stamps seems pretty reasonable.

Tao - Yes, I would say their monopoly over first class mail has been broken by the Internet.

Amen brother!

Too bad they still deliver all the junk. Sad thing is I check my mail every 3-4 days and my box is stuffed, when i throw away the junk I have maybe 1 thing left that i want. Can't they double the price for sending junk and leave stamps for the rest of us where they are? Might cut down on the crap if it actualy cost them something to send it.

Fucking Greedy Assed Mother Fuckers. What utter and complete dsgraces these Fucktards in the Postal Service are. Rotten to the fucking core.

I didn't hear about this until yesterday. I even bought a book of stamps at a post office last Thursday and I didn't see one poster/flyer/signage of any type that informed me as to the increase let alone the date of the increase. Now I've got to go back and buy a whole book of $.01 companion stamps to mail anything.

Just for fun, if you ever meet a postal worker in a social situation, try getting them a little drunk and asking them about what it's like to work for the post office. You'd think they were talking about prison.

"Too bad they still deliver all the junk."

Scientologists used to live in my house (they were the former former owners) over 20 years ago, and I continue to get more crap mail from them than is believable. Full color magazines, endless mug shots of L.Ron looking like they were taken yesterday, etc. There were three of them, so we get everything in triplicate. I'd tell them, but I don't want a rattlesnake in my mailbox.

Ask someone behind the postal counter how much three-cent stamps and penny postcards are today. herm

if you can put up standing in line behind 30 people when they have 4-5 stalls and 1-2 people working. what a joke.

It's like Amtrak - I always use the self-service machines.

The postal service is in a death spiral, raising rates because they are losing money and thus losing more customers because postal rates are higher.

I agree with DANNI, I pay all my bills on-line and all my correspondence is by cell phonr and e-mail. I use very few stamps.

By the way, does anyone still have a land-line telephone?
