A tornado touched down about 5:42 p.m. in Ottawa County, Oklahoma, killing six people and heavily damaging buildings in a 20-block area, the service said.
Michelann Ooten, spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, said there were a number of people unaccounted for in Picher, Oklahoma.
"I know they are going through the rubble, trying to find people missing," she told The Associated Press. "There are numerous injuries."
Weather officials said a tornado touched down about 6 p.m. between Seneca and Neosho near the Missouri-Kansas border. Numerous injuries were reported, and U.S. 60, which runs into Interstate 44, was closed due to debris covering the road.
Ten people were killed in the community of Racine in Newton County, Missouri, according to emergency officials.

Why does God hate the bible belt soooo much. You figure his people would get tired of test, after test, after test, after test...

was driving through Neosho/Joplin area earlier today. there was a path of destruction as wide as a 6-lane highway crossing right over 71 south. I was seeing debris several miles away. just sort of intimidating. thick trees along the highway with this jagged line cutting right through on both sides.

You know LeeAtWater that is getting mighty old and tiresome. Do You have any original thought processes in that brain of Yours or do You have to resort to the same ole tired assed slams towards Me?? I mean come on really. They used to hurt greatly now I find them to be just truly pathetic. Can You try and be original for once?? Sincerely Larry Mohr

The last weekend in January, a tornado came within 100-150 yards of my house. I was out of town on business, and my wife and kids had to contend with no power for two days. My wife said she actually heard the twister, and then boom, it was over. Lots of damage to the neighborhood. Scary stuff!

CBOB The last weekend in January, a tornado came within 100-150 yards of my house. I was out of town on business, and my wife and kids had to contend with no power for two days. My wife said she actually heard the twister, and then boom, it was over. Lots of damage to the neighborhood. Scary stuff! Glad to hear your family is okay and your house is still standing. Had to call my internet and cable provider two days ago (had to do a complete reinstall again on my Windows XP whaaaa) and I asked him when he answered if they were really busy as it took awhile for them to get on the phone and he said they were jammed packed trying to handle all the calls from Illinois and a couple other states where the storms and tornados had hit. Guess everything is down.
P.S. -- ANYONE HEARD ANYTHING MORE FROM OOHRAH? I don't see his thread anymore.
