Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The United States tortures prisoners in violation of international law, former President Carter said Wednesday. "I don't think it. I know it," Carter told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "Our country for the first time in my life time has abandoned the basic principle of human rights," Carter said. "We've said that the Geneva Conventions do not apply to those people in Abu Ghraib prison and Guantanamo, and we've said we can torture prisoners and deprive them of an accusation of a crime to which they are accused."

Obama believes in torture, too?

if so, must be a past life inquistor thang....:>)

Very brave.. I just watched a group of Jewish authors basically bash Carter for his attempts to quell the Israeli/Palestine "conflict", not even his opinions regarding the current situation. I am not impressed by their slanted views, but it's shocking that C-SPAN will give them so much airtime.

Carter and Conyers are very dedicated, honorable and absolutely worthy, but their efforts appear wasted on Israel and BushCo since they are going to attempt to invade Iran regardless the consequences.

Without the backing of our pay-for Congress and the cowardly Senate impeaching this administration is uphill both ways.

Well, Jesus was martyred for what J.C. doing now...

Maybe Jimmy wants to go out in style ~ or take the potential coming hit for Obama to save our country from....mossad? or?

Carter: "US Candidates MUST do as Israel says"

THE LOATHSOME SMEARING OF ISRAEL'S CRITICS

As US President, Jimmy Carter showed his commitment to Israel by giving it more aid than anywhere else and brokering the only peace deal with an Arab regime the country has ever enjoyed. He also wants to see a safe and secure Palestine alongside it - so last year he wrote a book called Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid. It is a bland and factual canter through the major human rights reports. There is nothing there you can't read in the mainstream Israeli press every day. Carter's comparison of life on the West Bank (not within Israel) to Apartheid South Africa is not new. The West Bank is ruled in the interests of a small Jewish minority; it is bisected by roads for the Jewish settlers from which Palestinians are banned. The Israeli human rights group B'tselem says this "bears striking similarities to the racist Apartheid regime". Yet for repeating these facts in the US, Carter has widely called "a racist". Several universities have even refused to let the ex-President speak to their students.

"...Jimmy Carter showed his commitment to Israel by giving it more aid than anywhere else and brokering the only peace deal with an Arab regime the country has ever enjoyed."

The aid was a payoff for signing a treaty with Egypt.

The deal was worked out by the King of Morocco, but both sides wanted so much money that only the US could pay.

So Jimmy was the useful idiot, with your checkbook.

I hate America, but I love manipulating stupid rightwing Americans by telling lies and starting wars. - GWB

I love America so much that I am willing to tell the truth about this great nation even when it is unpleasant and reflects a negative light. For that is the only path back to righteousness. - JC

yet, GW tried to say US doesn't torture yesterday...Why is he still in office?

"headslapping"....what is that? please tell me that means more than slapping someones head.

i don't endorse true torture, but if we've got a member of an opposing force...and that person has information that could result in or prevent mass casualties, then i won't lose a minutes sleep if they are waterboarded or headslapped....but under no circumstances whatsoever should that person be noogied or wedgied. i mean, they're human after all.

Rudolph W. Giuliani's statement on Wednesday that he was uncertain whether waterboarding, a simulated drowning technique, was torture drew a sharp rebuke yesterday from Senator John McCain, who said that his failure to call it torture reflected his inexperience.
