Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

With up to 1.5 million people in Myanmar now believed to be facing the threat of starvation and disease and with relief efforts still largely stymied by the country's isolationist military rulers, frustrated United Nations officials all but demanded Thursday that the government open its doors to supplies and aid workers. "They have simply not facilitated access in the way we have a right to expect," said UN relief official John Holmes.

Boy that UN sure gets the job done...

Of course they won't allow outside help. The Burmese will see how much more others in the world care about them than does their own "leader."

well the fastest road to political change is natural disaster..Dont like the government there dont help em.. the people will overthrow and kill the rulers there if they dont respond properly.

Blaming the UN Rob???
Even for you that's stupid.

parts of the un are useless
but unicef and the world food program have been in general great successes

I wonder if Michelle Obama is proud of this country :)

The fact that today as I am writing this there are women and children dying because there so called Government is refusing to allow help from the outside World is almost to much to believe.

Can death really be coming to these people just because they have no OIL, maybe if they did the United States an the World would find a reason to do something other than to accept the situation we are in.

Liberals are not Anti-War just for the sake of Wars, we are when the stated reasons are only based of financial reasons. Mr. Bush would do himself an his legacy a lot of good if he would send those Aircraft carriers around from Iraq an send them to Burma an make it clear to those thugs that run that Country, that the World will not stand for this...

Human dignity requires that we not allow this Criminal Group that are running that country to allow maybe a million people to just die. Send in the fucking Troops this must not be allow to stand!!!!!!!

That's not all Burma's Humanitarian Junta is up to:

And Evildave...go fuck yerself.

Celisary-

If the Burmese people decided to rise up against them, I'd have no problem at all in supporting them. I think it's a little unrealistic to expect the US or the UN to go in and depose them unilaterally, though. It's just not as easy as it sounds.

Short of that, options are also limited. Anything we withhold from them only strengthens their hold over the people (by making the military the sole providers of food, etc.) and cutting off ties gives them the isolation they need to continue their insane rule. I agree that they need to be deposed, but the question is how. It's not like flipping a switch.

"Send in the fucking Troops this must not be allow to stand!!!!!!!"

I agree, but it would need to be an international force not a US unilateral invasion/occupation.

It has been 50 years since the Military has taken power in Burma, time an time again the People have voted for Democracy only to be killed an forced to submit by these thugs. This is what Regime Change should be about, would it be easy no but the people wants Democracy our troops would really be greeted as Heros.

Mr. Bush if he cares about his legacy at all should do something NOW!!!!!! There is no fucking time these people are dying as we speak.....

blaming them? No... the military leadership of Burma/Myanmar is to blame. Still doesn't change the fact that the UN can't get the job done.

good let them starve and die

This is a perfect chance for the Bushling to show that he actually gives a fuck.

Having been involved in this before what part
of Diplomatic Clearance to fly into a country
do you not understand. I flew for 5 years doing
NALO ops, if you don't know what that means look it up.

We could get the Burmese government's attention if instead of food we start dropping surplus rifles and ammunition to those people. Give them a copy of the Declaration of Independence also. Then we will see how fast those borders open up.

Fuck em, send Rambo, finish the job.
