The other error, made by both the religious left and the religious right in recent decades, is to politicize faith, using faith to express essentially political points that have lost touch with biblical truth. That way faith loses its independence, the church becomes "the regime at prayer," Christians become "useful idiots" for one political party or another, and the Christian faith becomes an ideology in its purest form. Christian beliefs are used as weapons for political interests.

Do any of Those People think Jesus would have been an evangelical? Do they understand what the word "pharisaical" really means? herm

Herm,
No, they don't.

Alot of them think that god made Bush president. What do you think?

I think that in a cruel demonstration of Her power that Dog made Bush President.

Methinks they're already too late. They've been "useful idiots" of the right since Reagan first started using them...

don't trust them....
they should all be forced to wear those ankle monitors so that we know where they are at all times.

all the best

"Useful Idiots".

How appropriate.

Barry Goldwater stands vindicated.

He can't roll in his grave, he was cremated and scattered from an airplane, over the Grand Canyon IIRC.

It must be embarrassing for them to have been owned so thoroughly by Karl Rove.

Yes, the religious right are stepping back because they have seen how nasty it will get after hillary and obama swifting.

They were soft on baghdad bob mccain and they must have found some stuff that could really turn America off.

George Bush will leave the White House in dignity. Just wait and watch. No Bush-bashers and harsh critics will be converted on this account, but they will see something they may grudgingly come to realize, even if they hide it in their minds.

Things will happen!

Takitez, I've seen a couple of your posts on the "Comments" section and I have just one question: Have you been eating mushrooms this morning?

I think Moses ate mushrooms on Mt Sinai.

As for me, I have no mushrooms, no burning bush, not been to the mountain, and I haven't eaten anything yet --- but might go for a cup of coffee soon.

But observe and write back after Bush leaves office. If I'm wrong, stone me then.

Just poking fun, Takitez. "Things will happen" does sound a bit like a prophet crying out in the wilderness. We'll see. Enjoy your coffee.

Nothing personal.

Nother tip: the next VEEP will play a mighty role in the nation.

Would this be McCain's or Obama's? Or both?

Perhaps not what you consider evangelical, no, but Jesus states in the bible that his disciples were to go out among the world and find converts. That is essentially what an evangelist does. So he would have been an evangelical, but he would have practiced what he was preaching.

fishermen of men, so to speak.

just because the loudest, most popular evangelists have a tendency to be hypocrites does not make them all hypocrites.

Oh good lord.

Joe Lieberman is certainly excited at the prospect.

Please explain what could Bush do in the last six months of his presidency that would exonerate him from 7 1/2 years of total incompetence? Even if he brokered a deal between Israel and the arab world and a deal between China and Tibet, we would still have 4000+dead in Iraq, many hundreds of thousands of Iraqi dead, the country in shambles, Iran ready to step in and take over, one trillion borrowed and spent but not repaid, our economy in shambles and our future in question. So, again, please tell me what could Bush do to erase all this?

Yo Takitez ! Bush and Cheney will voluntarily submit themselves to a war crimes tribunal ?

One thing that many evangelicals are coming to realize, is that you can't tie yourself to a political party. Politics is a dog eat dog, deceptive, and frustrating business.

Evangelical Christianity can't be. Faith has to transcend politics, and cheapens when tied to a political party. That doesn't meant that deeply held religious convictions shouldn't be expressed, but no political party has the corner on God.

Americans are not nearly as divided as the red vs blue maps would indicate (or the demagogues on this board). Most want a decent country, with opportunities. Most are neither stupid nor lazy, and most are rightly cynical about politicians and pastors that act like politicians.

Americans for the most part, of both parties, think matters of faith are important. For many, if not most, those matters transcend politics.
