Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The Gasoline Conspiracy. The hell with Conspiracy, how about SCAM??!!!
We can beat these slick oily corporations. How much price gouging are we going to take? Why is no one shouting price fixing? Monopoly? No monopoly? What do you call it when there are no new petroleum processing plants being constructed? No new players? Everyone everywhere is talking about alternative fuels and yet no one is building large scale processing plants. The latest debate is the use of gasohol being non cost effective, cost prohibitive ... raising the price of produce. The cost of fuel is raising the price of produce and all goods.
The actuality is that Gasohol does not have to be processed from the corn itself, it can be gotten through the stalk. And feed corn anyhow is different than the corn we eat . Everything about this gasoline gouging is bullshit.

when gas is 6+ dollars a gallon....i will be happy...very.....very happy

Why's that, JUDAS?

Because...6+ dollars will spur invention....or alternatives to oil (not ethonal)

i think its hard for americans to change a life style....high cost of living might be a motivation to change the way we move around our country

im really a pro hyrdrogen.....and i think if americans focus on building our infastructure around hydrogen...we will be better off in many ways

the trucking industry has a better chance on changing the system than anybody else....tractor trailers have central fueling points along americas roadways

also local governments have a good chance in changing our infastructure.....city buses and vechicles (fire dept...police dept....and regular city trucks and cars) use central fueling points for their vehicles

i think if local governments and bussiness get together....it would not be hard to build a hydrogen infastructure.....but it has to start as a grass roots project

local government is the key to change....and we have the power to control our local government

You get the government you pay for. That's why it costs more than you can afford.

local government is the key to change....and we have the power to control our local government

How naive! I swear I live in a nation of children.

""Senate Democrats on Wednesday called for a temporary special tax on oil companies profits and a rollback of $17 billion in oil industry tax breaks as part of an energy package. The Democrats are also seeking federal penalties on energy price gouging and a suspension of oil deliveries into the governments emergency reserve." (New York Times, Thursday) "

How do the numbskull's in Washington deal with the high price of gasoline and energy dependence? Why they raise taxes. That guarantees we'll get less of it.

"You get the government you pay for. That's why it costs more than you can afford.

Posted by Ray"

The buck never stops with corporations in Ray's bizzaro world. They are responsible for nothing. Or, at least, nothing negative. All corporate crime is caused by government. Why, the poor little darlings of big business are actually, as Ayn Rand said, America's oppressed minority.

Duhhh! The topic was government. But if you want to discuss corporations, I've told you a thousand times that they are partners. You have the memory of a flea, Nulli.

Actually the topic was about "slick oily corporations" and their alleged price gouging. Of course you would turn it into a diatribe against government. That's what you on all issues.

should be "That's what you do on all issues."

In any event it's rather a stupid article.

" But a man named Stanley Meyer created a perfectly good hydrogen generator and was murdered for his invention. Gee, I wonder who killed him? Fortunately for us this device is available in public domain. It's patent was filed 20 years ago. Look it up on the internet. It'll break your heart. Unfortunately I cant recreate this device."

What is the source of this article? It is really silly. It is so full of holes, I don't know where to begin to dispute it. No wonder the author of this thread did not post a link to the source.

Of course you would turn it into a diatribe against government. That's what you on all issues.

Collectively, they commit practically every capital crime imaginable on a scale so massive, it's wrecking the world economy and destroying lives by the millions. Their incompetence is beyond what any reasonable person should tolerate. And the sad part about it is that more they screw up, the more the gullible public keeps asking for more. That's the Bizarro world.

After the biofuel fiasco, if the Democrats get their way, they will make our energy problems worse. It's just an economic fact of life.

You need a serious reality check.

"After the biofuel fiasco, if the Democrats get their way, they will make our energy problems worse. It's just an economic fact of life."

I don't necessarily disagree with that. That's one of the problems with giving Iowa such a prominent role. Ethanol is a boondoggle supported by both parties.

"Ethanol is a boondoggle supported by both parties." - Nulli

Actually the mandate cleared the Senate 51-50, in 1994

With Al Gore breaking the tie...
query.nytimes.com

Of course ethanol is a boondoggle. This is petty compared to war-profiteer and Wall Street standards. Let's agree that government and the corporations are partners in crime.

We're not in a state of government by the people and for the people. That's a delusion.
The rich and powerful have always lived off and oppressed the masses since the beginning of civilization. The names change, but it's the same stratification.

"Actually the mandate cleared the Senate 51-50, in 1994"

That doesn't say what the party breakdown was. My guess is that farm state Senators from both parties supported it. But that was 1994. What the vote would be in 2008 is anybody's guess. Neither party votes against corporate welfare once it's in place.

John McFlipflop opposed ethanol in 2000. Now, well, things are different.

"McCain then changed his position completely in 2006. When giving a speech in Iowa, the same state which he publicly stated his skepticism in 2000, he said "I support ethanol and I think it is vital, a vital alternative energy source not only because of our dependency on foreign oil but its greenhouse gas reduction effects."

What's stopping you from entering the market? If you've truely got a problem, do something about it.

i'm no longer wondering why paragraphs are so much easier to peruse.

All rights come from the moon.

Shucks, we 've got all of the oil we want at our fingertips. We have the military to take and hold it.

Iraq. Iran. Venezuela. All likely candidates to have their oil fields seized.

Good old Dwight D. Eisenhaower advised the Saudis that if they raised the price of oil, he'd bomb them back into the stone age. They defied him by telling him they'd been there not long ago and could return. I don't think that the current effete Saudi generation would project the same attitude.

Most of the Saudi oil, I'm told, is in a region populated by Shias.

It's there for the U.S, to take. Will we be pusillanimous and allow our people to suffer, or will we use our resources to benefit ourselves? What's the sense of maintaining such a large military if you are reluctant to use it for your own benefit?

The oil is out there. We don't need to suffer from international shortages. We only need to feed our national requirements. The oil is out there for the taking. Take it. Pax Americana.

How would you feel about your new amoral dream USA if you lived anywhere else?

Johnson-
....what would you do to fight it?

Only worthless fucks think killing for Oil is a Good thing.

I don't understand how anyone can thing companies that make 8 cents on the dollar are price gouging.

The reason gas has went through the roof has to do mostly with OPEC(Oil Producing and Exporting countries). They control the majority of supply in the world. In the 1970's the United States imported 40% of our oil and produced the other 60% domestically. Today we only produce 40% and the rest is imported.

The reason the oil companies profits have increased is very simple. If gas is $1 a gallon and you sell 10 billion gallons making 8 cents per dollar then you made 80 million dollars. However, if gas rises to $3 per gallon and you still sell 10 billion gallons the profit would rise to 240 million dollars at 8 cents per dollar.

Additionally the government collects taxes to the tune of twice the profits of the major oil companies. I don't hear Barrack Obama complaining about the 20 billion dollars a quarter Exxon is paying in taxes. Those taxes help build roads, feed children, pay for the military, etc.

Exxon sold over 100 billion dollars in gas last quarter paid 20 billion in taxes and profited 10 billion dollars. I see no problem with those numbers.

Bee Swell

Asscrack,

The reason gas has went through the roof has to do mostly with OPEC(Oil Producing and Exporting countries).

That certainly is a factor, but not the biggest IMO. Fact is, skyrocketing demand from populous, developing countries like India and China is a much bigger factor.

The reason the oil companies profits have increased is very simple.

It IS fairly simple, although I think one of this site's staunchest liberals (BilloFidian) stated it in even simpler terms about a year ago - (paraphrased from memory) How profitable would a bottled water stand be in a suddenly populated desert?

I don't either.

All in all, solid post, Mr. Junkie.

Don't blame India and China for the high cost of Gasoline. Blame the Iraq War and instability in the middle east. Bank on THAT one.

Larry Mohr

Sorry jeff...but demand has not risen 6 fold. The price has.

OPEC, Greed, and the sinking US dollar are too blame along with the consumption from China.

That certainly plays a role as well.

A lot of factors come into play with these sky-rocketing prices and the Iraq war and ME instability is part of the equation.

However, the big picture points toward sky-rocketing demand as the biggest culprit. Of course, pop-culture solutions such as ethanol mandates only greatly exacerbate the problem on multiple levels.

Fuck the Bush administration for so stupidly standing by said mandates. I guess big agriculture is in their pockets as well.

*I am being serious.

OPEC, Greed, and the sinking US dollar are too blame

I agree that these are all contributing factors.

Alex,

What's up with site moderation as of late?

The most recently deleted comment is from the end of April, and it was a comment written by RCade.

Has RCade taken a vacation?

Me thinks RCADE is on a mental vacation from this site. I know I would have given Buffalo Bob the ole Heave Ho after what He has done to Murphy and a few others as of late. Oh well shit happens.

Larry Mohr

Jeff- I dunno, but I've seen some really heinous shit on here lately. Don't even bother flagging anything. The funny/newsworthy flag works...but the "abusive" one doesn't. Even if one poster is calling another one a nigger. Literally.

Rogers must be at the beach.

And worst of all...Cruel.com just links to drudge. WTF!

Alex/Larry,

I have flagged a number of posts as "funny" that never showed up in the flagged section - and NO, I wasn't flagging my own posts.

Anyhow, I view it as a positive - unless things devolve to the PWZ level that we had a couple of years ago, the less moderation the better IMO.

Heinous: That R8RH8R Jackass and Rex are allowed to have accounts here after screwing around with people's personal lives.

The rest of the garbage here is pretty tame, really. Nice to see neocon 4 ever take a flying fuck, though.

Jeff- I thought married men had to flag their own posts.

Alex,

R8RH8R?

Whose life did he screw with?

Jeff- I thought married men had to flag their own posts.

Sadly, that is occasionally true.

Now that I work nights, the bed is almost anyting but conjugal due to timing.

I know - too much information.

He sent out emails to prospective employers of Robs showing them his blog. Consequently, he was not employed as his blog history is fairly disgusting.
