Is anyone else noticing a trend developing here, beyond the "we never said that warming patterns would be steady" shuffle? Each explanation, whether by Willis, Keenlyside and Latif, Wood, or Trenberth implies that some climate forces natural are more formidable than those anthropogenic. This is yet another precarious admission, indeed - one unlikely to be made were the alternative not somehow more damaging to their cause.

Airlines slow down flights to save on fuel

apnews.myway.com

Let me get this straight:

Airlines are giving us shittier service every year that goes by including the fact that they lose more and more of our luggage and raise ticket prices and now to add insult to injury, it will take longer to get to our destination! Isn't great how the airlines just love to rip people off!?

Come fly the greedy skies!

April U.S. sales show shift to smaller cars

Interesting and radical idea, when fuel prices go up, people buy smaller more efficient cars! Radical, the free market at work. I hope some of you DR posters can learn something from this.

I guess the bigger question is:

Are Mythbusters fans also fans of CSI?

Yeah, let me get my sweater and my record player, this disco stuff is like, groovy man!

the global warming myth is over, just like obama's chances at the WHITE HOUSE.

Wishful thinking on both from the "greeted as liberators" side of the aisle. Obama is up 11 on McBush, Hill is up 12 on McBush and nothing in your article indicates global warming isn't occurring, just that the ninos have a temporary mitigating effect, as they have for centuries.

And yet, the temperatures go up....

Obama makes an excellent point, but:

Wall Street, known variously as a barren wasteland for diversity or the last plantation in America, has defied courts and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for decades in its failure to hire blacks as stockbrokers. Now it's marshalling its money machine to elect a black man to the highest office in the land. Why isn't the press curious about this?

The first clue to an entrenched white male bastion seeking a black male occupant in the oval office (having placed only five blacks in the U.S. Senate in the last two centuries) appeared in February on a chart at the Center for Responsive Politics website. It was a list of the 20 top contributors to the Barack Obama campaign, and it looked like one of those comprehension tests where you match up things that go together and eliminate those that don't. I was now looking at a sight only slightly less frightening to democracy than a Diebold voting machine. It was a Wall Street cartel of financial firms, their registered lobbyists, and go-to law firms that have a death grip on our federal government.

Why is the "yes, we can" candidate in bed with this cartel? How can "we", the people, make change if Obama's money backers block our ability to be heard?

Seven of the Obama campaign's top 14 donors consisted of officers and employees of the same Wall Street firms charged time and again with looting the public and newly implicated in originating and/or bundling fraudulently made mortgages. Those scars will last a lifetime.

These seven Wall Street firms are (in order of money given): Goldman Sachs, UBS AG, Lehman Brothers, JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse. There is also a large hedge fund, Citadel Investment Group, which is a major source of fee income to Wall Street. There are five large corporate law firms that are also registered lobbyists; and one is a corporate law firm that is no longer a registered lobbyist but does legal work for Wall Street. The cumulative total of these 14 contributors through February 1, 2008, was $2,872,128, and we're still in the primary season.

Hasn't Senator Obama repeatedly told us in ads and speeches and debates that he wasn't taking money from registered lobbyists? Hasn't the press given him a free pass on this statement?

Should there be any doubt left as to who owns our government? The very same cast of characters making the Obama hit parade of campaign loot are the clever creators of the industry solutions to the wave of foreclosures gripping this nation's poor and middle class, effectively putting the solution in the hands of the robbers. The names of these programs (that have failed to make a dent in the problem) have the same vacuous ring: Hope Now; Project Lifeline.

Be assured of one thing: this country cannot afford any more grand illusions.

Excerpted from Pam Martens @ Counterpunch

"The latest New York Times/CBS News poll shows "an overwhelming majority of voters said candidates calling for the suspension of the federal gasoline tax this summer were acting to help themselves politically, rather than to help ordinary Americans." Also, the poll finds many voters say they're not affected by the furor over Mr. Obama's relationship with his pastor but think it could be a big deal in the general election."

A) Segment on Pat Tillman an how the Government, mulipitated the News to fit there description of the War.

B) Dr. Farmer and his young Medical doctors who works in Haiti and Africa, this Doctors make one proud to be an American.

C) The Prisoners in Dallas County, Texas being released because of DNA, an the D.A. Wade who used deceptive practices to convict innocent men of crimes just for the sake of a conviction, not about Justice, Mostly Black Men what a fucking disgrace....These men has spent from 10 years to 27 years for crimes they never committed initially there were 17 men released an another 250 cases are under review.

Of course its done to help them... hell if I were polled in that survey I would have answered the same way... doesn't mean come voting time I'm not going to take notice of who voted to save me money and who didn't.

The real problem is at the state level... I live right on the border of PA and NJ... cross over the delaware and the price of gas rises like 15-30 cents/gallon. I'd love to know what gas would cost per gallon if you took every tax off of it.

B) Dr. Farmer and his young Medical doctors who works in Haiti and Africa, this Doctors make one proud to be an American.

Actually it annoys me. There are plenty of poor and uncared for people in America that could use the help from these doctors...

The ol' lady asked me once what I felt about Doctors Without Borders and all that missionary bullshit... I told her, "What's the point of going through all this training, these overnight calls, these 80-100 hour work weeks (even though by law they supposedly can't work more then 80 hours... yeah right) only to be gang raped by a group of Ugandans and chopped up with a machete." Point was well taken...

Rob:For the first quarter of 2008, the average state gasoline tax is 28.6 cents per gallon, plus 18.4 cents per gallon federal tax making the total 47 cents per gallon.

www.api.org

making the total 47 cents per gallon.

Seems kind of fucked up, since the money that I'm using to buy the gasoline with has already been taxed by the government...

Clinton PR people send out mailer featuring $2200 gun

Continuing to parrot every potential Republican sound bite they can think of, Hillary Clinton's PR people have just sent out a mailer accusing Barack Obama of being insufficiently supportive of gun rights.

But as Ben Smith describes on Politico, when Clinton's PR people created the display, they used a high-end $2200 German sniper rifle almost never used for hunting. And then flipped and Photoshopped it to create an image that would never exist in reality.

LL double header tonight so we are doing Seiso... 6 Di Mayo . I am making tamales, others are making Mex dishes. Plenty of nice fresh margaritas.

I'm a first time grandfather.

Daughter-in-law went into labor at 2:00 AM this morning. Labor failed to progress, so C-section was done about an hour ago. Mom and baby are doing very well.

Here's a pic of the Clinton mailing, complete with high-end SNIPER RIFLE: www.politico.com

"The gun in the photo does not exist," said Val Forgett III, president of Navy Arms in Martinsburg, W.Va. Forgett's company was Mauser's agent in the United States when the gun was released, and it sold Mauser guns here again in the 1990s. "The bolt is facing to the left side of the receiver, making it a left-handed bolt action rifle, indicating whoever constructed and approved the mailer did not recognize the image has been reversed."

Forgett said the error would be obvious to sportsmen.

"I find it laughable on its face," he said. "It's like a picture of Babe Ruth hitting right-handed."
...
"It's a $2,200 German import -- it's hardly typical of what the average workingman in Indiana uses," he said.

Congrats Goatman!!!

Congrats, Goatman

If its true that its been reversed in Photoshop I can kind of see why they did it on the mailer... they needed a plain background behind the text and picture of Barack so that it would stand out more... having the gun behind the text would make it look cluttered. Stupid move to photoshop it though they should have just found a better gun for the background or used the same gun pointing the way they wanted... now even if the subject of the mailer is true, they've opened a window for it to be turned back on themselves and that original subject will be forgotten.

Goatman...that is wonderful....congratulations!

If this damn phone rings with one more pol calling ......
Do they really think this harassment will get you to vote for them?
Honestly...it is almost every 20 minutes.
Convenient that..... they excluded themselves from NC's do not call law.

Your average Joe isn't going to take notice of the bolt action rifle. They're simply going to see "gun".

Besides, why is a left handed bolt action rifle so hard to comprehend? They do sell them, so it's not as if there is no such thing.

Proof that God exists is in this statement.

S: If this sentence is true, then God exists.

Hypothetically, if S is true, does God exist? Answer: If S is true, then according S, yes, God exists.

But that's exactly what S states, that if S is true, God exists. So S is, in fact, true.

Therefore, God exists!

I fly quite a bit, and almost all the flights I'm on are full, yet many airlines are still losing money. Seems like there's a big problem with the basic business model somewhere.

I don't know the solution, but unless we can start standing people in the aisles to get more paying passengers on a plane, the pricing or cost structure has to change.

I think (but ain't certain)that it was Warren Buffet that said, speaking strictly from an investment standpoint, it would have been better if Orville had crashed!

You won't be able to watch the video of Reba McIntyre sing this song until you're off the rig since it's on youtube and you can't livestream but maybe you'd want to save it. Shows her singing to her own newborn granddaughter.

"ANGEL'S LULLABY"

Midnight moonlight shining through the curtain lace
Paints a perfect picture on your perfect face
One sweet angel sleeping in my arms
You are the promise I knew God would keep
You are the gift that makes my world complete

And you'll never know how much I love you
But I'll keep on telling you my whole life through
Now I believe in miracles, and you're the reason why
So dream on while I sing you my angel's lullaby

Guess we posted at the same time about your new granddaughter, Goat.
She was born on the day when there will be meteor showers tonight. Doesn't that mean in American Indian belief and other ancient folklore that if that happens a child will be blessed with good luck?

I'm sure that's just Celisary's way of saying congratulations, right Celisary? At least BuffaloBob doesn't have a thread saying the baby was actually sent here in a UFO from the Moon! You take your chances when you post anything on DR. hahaha.

I didn't think about it until just now, but both my son and his daughter are born on days that are celebrated by minorities exclusively in Texas. My son was born on June 19, aka Juneteenth which is the day the Emancipation Proclamation was read in Texas and today of course is the Cinco de Mayo. I believe the Cinco de Mayo has spread outside of the Texas borders in the last few years, though.

I wasn't comparing them... Of course they're worse off in Haiti and Africa... Their country's suck and their people are backwards ass retards who are probably just figuring out fire, and still can't figure out that if you try to fuck every disgusting woman on the continent or island, you will get HIV... the people of Haiti are especially stupid because literally all they have to do is cross a line on a map to the Dominican Republic and life would be better... instead they load 35 people into a raft made for 3 and everyone is shocked when this goofy 3 hour tour turns into shark chum. At least for the people in Africa the whole damn place sucks... where are they gonna go?

What I was saying is that there are still needy people here who could use the free treatment and we should take care of them before saving someone for another week before they are cut apart by the Machete weilding nutjobs from the village upriver.

I believe the Cinco de Mayo has spread outside of the Texas borders in the last few years, though.

Outside the Texas borders! Are you kidding? It's celebrated like a Mexican national holiday here in Los Angeles. Nobody here cares about it except as an excuse to party and drink. In fact a lot of the Mexicans here in California don't even know what Cinco de Mayo is about. It's just a remembrance of what happened in Mexico when the Mexicans fought off the French army on so it has absolutely nothing to do with U.S. history at all. Here in Los Angeles it's celebrated like a "Mexican St. Patrick's Day" except with tequila instead of green beer. (grin)

Don't forget about illegally sneaking into another Country, signing up for taxpayer funded benes, and then bitching about it when called to task for your actions.

Besides I prefer to celebrate Ocho de Mayo:

On May 8, 1846, General Zachary Taylor defeated a detachment of the Mexican army in a two-day battle at Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma. This victory forced Mexican troops across the Rio Grande River to Matamoros, protecting the newly annexed state of Texas from invasion. Five days later, the United States declared war against Mexico. At the direction of President James K. Polk, General Taylor led American forces on to brilliant victories at Monterrey and Buena Vista.

Today on the Your World Neal Cavuto Fox New program there was a guy complaining about the fact that the 4th of July is not celebrated in Mexico especcially at the official level like stinko de Mayo is celebrated sometimes here at the WH. What's up with that?

" It's just a remembrance of what happened in Mexico when the Mexicans fought off the French "

Damn the French! They are always screwing things up!

Actually she (not it, btw) was born into one of the most liberal households I know. The mom was at my cousin's (a far left sheeple if there ever was one) house when she went into labor. She was supposed to have been born there, but when the midwife saw that the baby was too large to be delivered naturally, they went to the hospital. The mother is very liberal and my son is moderate. I only mention it since things like party affiliations seem very important to you.

I'm not sure where you get this presumptive "born into a conservative household thing". Personally I don't care what her political affiliations will be. It's not that important to me. Hopefully jf she is a liberal, she isn't a sheeple and doesn't make wild presumptions like some other liberals do.
