Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Al-Jazeera cameraman Sami al-Hajj arrived home in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum early Friday after nearly six years in the U.S. Navy prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. "I've been dreaming of this moment for the past seven years," he said in an interview with the Qatar-based Arabic news network.

Yeah. I guess that working in combat zones is a dangerous occupation.

And many of these fellows are "dual function." Even those who aren't try to propagandize the situation to gain support for our enemies.

A hunger strike? Why did we intervene?

Reporters Without Borders, which campaigned for al-Hajj's release, said in a statement that the cameraman "never should have been held so long."

"U.S. authorities never proved that he had been involved in any kind of criminal activity," the worldwide press freedom group said.

An "unimpeachable source?" How did they obtain credible information? Oh, they didn't claim that he was innocent, just that information "proving his guilt" had not been "presented." Ho hum.

Poor guy, just as there is an assumption of risk in various occupations, a risk of being struck if you're a pugilist, or being maimed or killed if you're a soldier, then there is myriad of risks associated with being on or in proximity to a battlefield, whatever task you essay.

"Reporters Without Borders" is denounced as a group doing the work of the U.S. by demonizing Cuba.

Doctors Without Borders. But RSF (French acronym) has been anything but nonpartisan and objective in its approach to Latin America and to Cuba in particular.

From the beginning, RSF has made Cuba its No. 1 target. Allegedly founded to advocate freedom of the press around the world and to help journalists under attack, the organization has called Cuba "the world's biggest prison for journalists." It even gives the country a lower ranking on its press freedom index than countries where journalists routinely have been killed, such as Colombia, Peru and Mexico. RSF has waged campaigns aimed at discouraging Europeans from vacationing in Cuba and the European Union from doing business there its only campaigns worldwide intended to damage a country's economy.

The above is not a matter of chance because it turns out that RSF is on the payroll of the U.S. State Department and has close ties to Helms-Burton-funded Cuban exile groups.

As a majority of members of Congress work toward normalizing trade and travel with Cuba, the extremist anti-Castro groups that have dictated U.S. Cuba policy for 40 years continue working tirelessly to maintain an economic stranglehold on the island. Their support for RSF is part of this overall strategy.

Havana-based journalist Jean-Guy Allard wrote a book about RSF's leader (El expediente Robert Mnard: Por qu Reporteros sin Fronteras se ensaa con Cuba, Quebec: Lanctt, 2005) which lays out the pieces of the puzzle regarding Menard's activities, associations and sources of funding in an attempt to explain what he calls Menard's "obsession" with Cuba. On April 27 this year the pieces began to come together: Thierry Meyssan, president of the Paris daily, Red Voltaire, published an article in which he claimed Menard had negotiated a contract with Otto Reich and the Center for a Free Cuba (CFC) in 2001. Reich was a trustee of the center, which receives the bulk of its funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development. The contract, according to Meyssan, was signed in 2002 around the time Reich was appointed Special Envoy to the Western Hemisphere for the Secretary of State. The initial payment for RSF's services was approximately 24,970 euros in 2002 ($25,000), which ...

Who wouldda thought ...?

"Now I can plan my life differently. Everything will be all right, God willing."

This guy will get another thread soon. The headline will be something like:

"Ex-Gitmo inmate kills 25 with suicide bomb"

Ya Al-Hajj !
El hamdou etc.
It was about time. You should never have been arrested to start with.
Hope you recover soon.

"The believers before you were persecuted much more than you. Their bones were scraped with combs of iron and their heads were cut with saws, but still they did not give up their Faith. I assure you that God will fulfill this Mission, and there will come a period of such peace that one would travel the Earth, and he will have no fear from anyone, save God."

-Bukhari and Muslim

And now al-Hajj's treatment by the American government, without fair trial, evidence, or even clear accusation, under the most inhumane and treacherous of conditions, is a matter of public record.

"under the most inhumane and treacherous of conditions...."

"Taxi To The Dark Side," anyone? I plan to view that documentary about our torturing an innocent Afghan cab driver to death tonight. The part where we pulpify his legs may be a bit tough to watch. herm

they arrest an accredited photographer and the Army took 6 years to figure out they fucked up. What a bunch of raving idiots the u s military has become

You're right. It looks
lovely.

"Guantanamo bay prisoners on arrival are subject to complete sensory deprivation with the use of blacked out googles, ear guards and face masks."

Ness,

Vernon lives in a burned out single-wide downwind from a pig farm, ANYTHING would sound like a vacation to him.

True, Axe. Plus, have you seen his wife?? Vernon hasn't been able to go on vacation in years because she's far too large to fit on a bus seat, much less on an airplane, and he hasn't been able to teach her to fill her own feedbag. I'm sure Gitmo does look good to him, the poor sap.

"VERNON'..You dumb BASTARD you never disappoint, how about if we take you on a six years adventure away from your family, torture your NEO-CON ass an maybe then you may change your mind. Oh hell you may enjoy that anyway, your fucks on the right are just to fucking dumb to be taken serious....

Except when I go on vacation there aren't soldiers there "guarding" me. My body isn't subject to routine stress positions to make me "fess up", and I'm there of my own free will. Not because I may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

How many of these people have we let out of Guantanamo without leveling any charges? How many of them have been people turned over to the army by someone with a grudge? How many have been allowed to see the evidence brought against them?

They may not be American Citizens, but they are American Prisoners. As a christian, you should feel there is a moral obligation to make sure these people are not being treated unfairly or unjustly imprisoned.

Alas, since your favorite C student says it's ok, you make no noise.

My day would not be complete without reading a post from the dumbest "intellectual" on the retort.

The key word being "upon arrival". That was six years ago retard. SINCE ARRIVAL it's been sitting arou d getting fat on glazed chicken and lemon pie, and kneeling down five times a day toward Mecca.

The dumb bastard is the guy who's filming American soldierx in a combat zone, and then gets upset when he's arrested. It's a fucking war zone.

I do agree that six years is way too long, if the guy had proper media credentials. But it's also a bunch or horseshit that Gitmo is a never-ending place of torture. If anything, it's real fucking boring.

Clearly, the so-called "hunger-strike" was in actuality a clear indication that culturally and ethnically sensitive foods were not provided to Mr. Al-Hajj.

This breach is inexcusable and his rights have been trampled on. I know that Obama will fix this when he takes office.

How many more atrocities will take place at Gitmo?
CLOSE GUANTANAMO BAY!

Be Well.

"As a christian, you should feel there is a moral obligation to make sure these people are not being treated unfairly or unjustly imprisoned."

I don't want anybody unjustly imprisoned. By the same token, screeching bullshit on a blog page accomplishes nothing. You might feel like a brave big shot, but you are nobody and your raging accomplishes nothing.

"Alas, since your favorite C student says it's ok, you make no noise."

You make enough noise for both of us. What has your noise accomplished?

Skip Wellington....aider and abetter to the enemy. He loves them better than his own.

It's not about the negative things I have to say about it.

It's about the fact that you don't see any issue with scooping up random people and holding them for an extended period of time before releasing them with no charges and no reason to have held them in the first place.

I like playing this generalization game with Celisary. I bet I'll enjoy it with you too. Here's a favorite.

"All republicans are toe-tapping, kiddie diddling, cock sucking, ass-fucking-in-the-bathroom queers who hate themselves because they can't come to terms with their queerness."

These folks are held for no reason.
No reason meaning 'enemy combatant'.

If you're on the battlefield and you are engaged in
hostile activities against American forces - guess what?
- YOU'RE AN ENEMY COMBATANT!

You could be injured, killed or sent to Gitmo.

(Or, Death's PUD will be overcome with compassion
and he will toss your filthy salad for you).

If you're on the battlefield and you are engaged in
hostile activities against American forces

What did the guy do? Hit a soldier with his camera?

Stupid fuck.

So we got that. It's understandable that you would capture, kill or injure someone shooting at you.

On the other hand, if the guy is holding a camera and nothing else, leave him alone. Or if you're concerned about him taking pictures of you, capture him and send him home.

His camera bags better be full of ammunition and C4 before you send him to gitmo.

It's about the fact that you don't see any issue with scooping up random people and holding them for an extended period ....

I never said that, did I?

In fact, I said just the opposite.

You are so desperate to accuse people and assume things. You are a pathetic and impotent fool who thinks that writing silly shit on a blog read by a few dozen other fools makes you important.

You're making your view heard!

You are the King of Nothing. But I enjoy seeing your silliness and self-righteousness. You help me remain polite and humble.

Thank you, King, from the bottom of my heart!

Now, hurry on. The assistant manager at Taco Bell is also depending on you.

The comments by the idiots (you know who you are) on this thread make me want to puke. You assholes don't deserve to be part of the human race.

I created 12 new jobs this week; 7 for poor people with no skills except a desire to work and support their families.

What did you do this week for people who work for a living? (buying beer at Circle K does not count)

.... that's what I thought
