Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

In Basra alone, police acknowledge that 15 women a month are murdered for breaching Islamic dress codes. Others say the number is higher. At first glance Shawbo Ali Rauf appears to be slumbering on the grass, her pale brown curls framing her face, her summer skirt spread about her. But the awkward position of her limbs and the splattered blood reveal the true horror of the scene. The 19-year-old Iraqi was, according to her father, murdered by her own in-laws, who took her to a picnic area in Dokan and shot her seven times. Her crime was to have an unknown number on her mobile phone. Her "honor killing" is just one in a grotesque series emerging from Iraq, where activists speak of a "genocide" against women in the name of religion.

Not sure I would call this honor killing.

It appears the U.S. forces are doing a wonderful job of providing the American style of freedom.

coming to a theater near you? it's s.o.p. in their culture and that is just a fact.

It's a dishonor killing. Sometimes all it takes to trigger one of these crimes is an incoming text message from a boy, a desire for more of the men in the family to get a larger share of the inheritance, or nothing at all.

The World Bank looked at all the known dishonor killings in Jordan in 1997 and found that 95% of the victims were still virgins at the time of their deaths.

Unfortunately, these crimes are on the increase globally, not just in Iraq.

Are you sugesting that we are responsible for the killings?

I don't think the US policy had anything to do with the killings..these people have been at each others throats for many years before the war. However, there is no reason for us to stand between them while US blood and money is hemorrhaging.

I'd like to see ACLU or NOW get involved with real issues of international women's rights. Is that too much to ask? Even a condemnation?

No, Sniper. It's just that Moneywar can't grasp that freedom is a double-edged sword. It's a shame that these men are free to kill their own daughters.

I believe they are shamed into it by the community.

Nanc, seems like you forget the US of A is rife with incarceration, rape, murder, child abduction, etc., etc. Not just on this soil, but also creating a demand for child molestation in places like Thailand. So before you get on your hypocritical high horse, may want to take a look at your own despot culture. Pathetic.

Saddam's Fault (TM).

I guess religious zealots are everywhere. Killing in the name of.......

According to libs, we should not judge people who do honor killings. It's just another form of cultural equivalence, just like cannibalism and human sacrifice.

Iraq has exposed for all the world to see the sins of the American leadership and of the Muslim who has gone astray. In Iraq we can see the complete failure of the American system and the chaotic results of a country that allowed innovation to creep into their worship of God alone. That is its purpose, and heed must be paid to its lessons.

"And incline not toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire should touch you, and you have no protectors other than God, nor you would then be helped."

al-Quran 11:113

It would have to be something so important like oil to get us involved with these primative bastards.

Why don't these pricks rush on up and join the 16th century?

Keith-
re: "It would have to be something so important like oil to get us involved with these primative bastards."

Yeah, why can't they just fall in line like we want 'em to? Everyone knows that one American life is worth 50 barrels of oil or so, and some raghead life in Iraq is worth less than one. We've done the math, trust me!
Primitive bastards!

Iraqis voted in shaira law and American soldiers are obligated to help them to uphold the law. Your tax dollars at work... well... I guess it sure beats paying for a bridge to nowhere.

Sniper, it's just that Iraq was a relatively modern, comparatively Western country by the standards of the region. When we upset the applecart - without a plan to reorganize the apples - Iraq reverted towards the kind of backwards Islamic tribal society it was 50 years ago, exactly what we were trying to avoid.

Is it our fault? Well, it seems to be a consequence of our actions. If everything had gone according to plan, we'd take the credit.

Is it our fault?? Well, it was completely predictable. We decided to go ahead with the invasion anyway because we had other motivations, if you know what I mean. If we had gotten the cheap gas we wanted most Americans wouldn't give a crap about Iraqi women. We didn't though because the Iraqi Parliament won't cooperate with the neocon thieves. So we basicly spent 3 trillion dollars to help Iraq go back to the 16th century. Mission Accomplished.

Did you know That 96% of Iraqi children under the age of 5 Have received the first 2 series of polio vaccinations?

Did you know That 4.3 million Iraqi children were enrolled in Primary school by mid October?

Did you know That there are 1,192,000 cell phone subscribers in Iraq And phone use has gone up 158%?

I don't think the place is all bad. The press would like you to believe the worst because bad stuff sells news, not good stuff.

Response to the above person: Many Polio vaccinated children who go to school are losing their lives or their cell-phone owning parents lives everyday through the mayhem that has come through the American invasion. Iraqi were to blame for keeping such a leader such as Saddam Hussein in power, and for leaving the true belief and falling prey to innovation in their religion, and this is known that punishment is the result of such actions, and others who do not renounce violence against the civilian, but the American enablers of the occupation still own the sins of their evil perpetrations. This is a matter of public record.

"If you commit innovation or worship of others than God all your good works will be rendered vain and you will be among the most unfortunate. Therefore, you should worship God alone, and be among His grateful servants."

al-Quran
Surah 39:66

Finally someone crazier than Johnson.

"It appears the U.S. forces are doing a wonderful job of providing the American style of freedom."

It appears that you are way off base with that comment.

"Iraqi {sic} were to blame for keeping such a leader such as Saddam Hussein in power..."

Posted by ExpectingReign

Then Americans are to blame for keeping such a "leader" as Bush in power.

How many Americans were/would be willing to sacrifice their livelihoods, their freedom, and possibly their lives to depose Bush?

How many Iraqis would have been willing to literally sacrifice their lives, and the lives of their families, to depose Saddam?

A little perspective goes a very long way.

But Zot they don't love Jesus like we do they love some guy named Mohammy or something like that. They want to get in their speedboats and come over here make us worship sheeri laws.

Most of all their skin is darker than ours Zot. Tell me if God did not hate em why did he make em the color of dung? Zot it is our duty to stamp out the je.. er com...er Islamies, yeah that's it, Islamies to make the world safe for Jesus to come back and love us.
