Well, it's a bit of a remark to our societal growth. This surrogate mother story would have been absolute taboo just 20 years ago, and only 10 years back would have been impossible to market. Hell, Focus On The Family gave Juno a good review, but then complained how it's non-Christian characters are "unwatchable". Social conservatives and religious fundamentalists are squirming for a new Regan to quelsh social development - which will never, ever happen again. It appears that many, many more people don't care enough to obey anti-family Christian dogma. Get over it.

From the viewpoint of this Christian, Juno was very good and well done.
I love Tina Fey but have never found Amy Poehler very funny.

I saw juno this weekend and I loved it especially the line about cool parents being a graphic designer with an asian girlfriend.

I was bummed to learn that Fey hadn't written the script. She is an amazing comic talent (I mean, she made Lindsay Lohan bearable and comic in Mean Girls -- now that's good writing). Anyone catch "Anualle" on SNL when Fey hosted?

Juno was a great pic. I was amazed by its brazen treatment of such a "taboo" subject, and thought its overall message of doing what's right for an unborn baby shined brightly. Oh, and Jennifer Garner was great as was the soundtrack featuring Kimya Dawson.

"I love Tina Fey but have never found Amy Poehler very funny."

Agree 100%... Also, Poehler looks like she's been on the crack pipe in the previews I've seen on TV.

I liked the line of Juno's about kids in her school referring to her as "a cautionary whale".

"Social conservatives and religious fundamentalists are squirming for a new Regan to quelsh social development - which will never, ever happen again."

I wouldn't be TOO sure. Take a look at what fundamentalists are doing in Britain:

....and in the U.S.

Good to see Tina Fey getting some love. 30 Rock is the funniest show on television.

Um...a slow news day?

An experiment. Best-of and worst-of movie links do well around here. I wondered if a weekly box office link might be popular.

Gawd spare us all from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

They are EVIL!

Be Well.

/Really gone now just had to mention that.

I didn't see BABY MAMA, but I (regrettably) see
ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO.

Horrible film - unfunny, raunchy & VERY unAmerican.

Oh, fucking great - nice spoiler, dude.:]

So many of these under 25 movies are tragically dumb. What made you go see it? Family or boredom?

When Star Wars came out my parents took us to see it multiple times. Those days are long, long gone. I'd never take any kids to the theatres out here - too much violence. Even during daytime shows. It's safer using
a DIY home projector.

Redlightdistrict,

When Star Wars came out my parents took us to see it multiple times.

I was 6 years-old when the original "Star Wars" came out. My dad took my brother and I to see it 5 times. He also took us to see "Empire Strikes Back" 4 times. We saw "Return of the Jedi" twice.

Those were great times.

For some reason, my dad absolutely loved the name, "Lando Calrisian".

Red,

I am such a Star Wars geek that I even have one of these (actually, 2 of them, technically - a Darth Maul double):

Be it real or imagined, the lightsaber is the greatest weapon of all time. It's not as clumsy or random as a blaster. It's an elegant weapon, for a more civilized age.

JeffJ - You made a Darth Maul double sabre? Thou art pure geek. I'm morally opposed to plastic weapons in the home, but I would like a Dalek to open my front door.

The Star Wars showings brought so many parents with little kids - we are a generation exposed to science fiction's greatest achievement. The air was electric every showing - and time again there were parents with kids.

I also saw the first run of Close Encounters in the theatre and was lucky to catch Wizards coming through the Lancaster Mall theatre in Salem. My little brain was quite taken with that one, rotoscoping aside.
