put uniforms on your soldiers and you wont get yor civilians killed.

since those civilians and that militant posed no threat to the US, perhaps we shouldnt be bombing them

Do you think our soldiers there would agree that militant posed no threat to them?

they weren't civilians.

First Amendment Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Second Amendment A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

very curious the parrallel nature of militia's (militants) in Iraq to our BoR.

What incredible insight those pilots have. They can detect a terrorist from an innocent flying at high speed 3,000 feet up. They just never seem to miss.

Well, they certainly pose no threat now!

a militant in a building subjected to an aerial bombing would likely be remote from our forces, so ipsofacto, no threat to our troops.

so this becomes a targetted killing of a "militant" the apparent term of the day.

so this appears to be a political killing to attack those in opposition to the maliki govt.

they weren't civilians.

except as stated by the Iraqi police. you know the one's your side constantly praise as being indicative of the success in iraq.

While Maliki has been left weakened, Iran has emerged strengthened, as it reportedly brokered the weekend truce at a meeting of Shia parties in the Iranian city of Qom, that excluded the Iraqi government.

Another shining victory moment no one could have predicted.

Whatever happened to "collateral damage" - sounds so much better than "we killed more civilians", doesn't it?

Isn't all this kinda like blasting a squirrel with a Howitzer? How many millions of dollars to kill one guy?

I would guess there were forces on the ground firing a laser at the building to guide the missile, or forces who had targeted the building already gave the coordinates so that our GPS guided bombs could hit it on the nose.

Its okay that you wouldn't know that... laser guided bombs are pretty new.

Hey have you guys heard that new song Epic, by Faith No More? Kicks ass... Me and my Zubaz Stripe pants are gonna rock out this 1992!!!!

Was he chained to a fucking furnace? Couldn't ever leave the building?

"While we were preparing for evening prayer, U.S. aircraft bombed this house, we rushed to save survivals but in vain," a neighbor identified only as Haj Juwad told APTN. "The father, mother and a young boy were killed and three others were buried under rubble. We evacuated two people and one is still under the rubble."

Hospital officials said three bodies had been received, including two men and an elderly woman, and two women were wounded in the strike. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to release the information.

i feel safer already

more likely we got the target from some iraqi "security" force who was advancing some other agenda. we dont have many troops in the south.

"How many millions of dollars to kill one guy?"

But he was a "high-ranking lieutenant of Al-Qaeda"!

Isn't all this kinda like blasting a squirrel with a Howitzer? How many millions of dollars to kill one guy?

How many millions? I'm gonna say, none.

www.strategypage.com

Once the engineers got onto it, it was discovered that JDAM not only worked, but cost less than half as much to build ($18,000 per bomb) as the air force expected ($40,000 a bomb). The current price is still under $30,000 each.

Our bombs don't cost millions of dollars... that would be silly.

Guaranteeing that we will have terrorists to fight in future decades.
Running out of terrorists, don't worry we can always make more.

Iraqi soldiers today patrolled a Shia militia stronghold in Basra, drawing scattered bombs and bullets that wounded a camera operator for a US-funded TV station and narrowly missed the commander of government troops in the city.

US Funded TV Station?

where are all the righties complaining about our tax dollars going to NPR?

and an elderly woman

Suicide gummers are right behind IEDs in threats to Coalition Forces.

Wouldn't it be IPR?

why are we funding iraqi media outlets?

oh yeah propoganda

forgot, sorry

propaganda, dag

The surge is working.

Rob, I was referring to overall mission costs, not just that of the bomb or bombs dropped.

Even still, the answer is we did not spend millions of dollars to kill this one guy...

The point of war is not to avoid cost but to kill their guys without endangering your own if possible. At least, that's how we fight them these days. Seems ok to me. Hope they got the right people, but since no one here really knows whether or not they got the right people, it seems kinda pointless to argue about it.

there are no "right" people cause we are not fighting an army. we are taking sides in a civil war.

this guy if we even got some combatant, was likely a sadrist militia, who therefore was targeted because of his opposition to the US backed government.

JOn-the Iranians say we got the right guy-good enough for me and McBush.

And the civilians-well, we'll get the blame and the Iranians the credit for stopping our crusade against the very people we claim to have saved from evil old Saddam. Again, good enough for me and McBush.

Yeah! We kilt a "Militant". Yeah TEAM AMERICA! Fuck YEAH!

Misshun Accompissed!

they weren't civilians.

~Rob the Wob

Cos anyone America kills anywhere is automatically assumed to be an enemy?

Howabout the kids?

The women?

The pregnant women?

Do you know how many spontaneous abortions have occured in Iraq due to American bombings?

This rethuglican death cult must be stopped.

This Age of Stupidity must end.

Be Well.

I thought SpudDud(tm) was ok with abortion anyway.

NAIL..........HEAD !!!!!!

It's too bad the article reads 'US Airstrike Kills 7 in Basra'.

Now if it said 700 or, even better 7,000, I'd say well now then that's a good start.

I say kick it up a notch and start getting some bigger numbers.

Quick fucking around with these assholes and make them pay attention!!!

Deathpud,

Quit being such a Pollyanna.

war sound bites are soooo informative liberal scum feeding off of fear of killing THATS all these people understand once we kill more and more they might wake up and say wow maybe we should become civilized and stop living in dirt or sand.

Robust-
So you think that killing more people might get them in line to become "civilized", like you?

yep

robust i am sure you are aware that the twin rivers of iraq has had civiliation for thousands of years? according to some this is where the wise men came who visited baby jesus. old hammurabi developed laws that we still use today, I am sure you are aware of these little facts, of course much of their dirt and sand is caused from the pulverization of the buildings we blow up

sweet

why dont you put on your burka and a gun and join them

Robust-
You just described the killing of half a dozen civilians(human beings - I'm sure you know some) , to whom we are allegedly spreading freedom and democracy, as "sweet".

join who? iran's ally maliki who we are helping?

I find it disturbing how you want to support the SUPREME ISLAMIC COUNCIL. what are you some kind of terrorist?

look its the cost of war lives are lost we went in on the belief of lies so theres that but now that we're there we have to finish the job. get over it stop sobbing over every news bite that comes out WAR is HELL plain and simple thats why weak minded people like yourselves dont have the stomach for it so leave it to men and women in uniform to finish the job

what war, we never declared war, we invaded another country that posed no threat to us.

finish what job?

we have chosen the minority's side in a civil war. so no we need to enforce the might of the majority by elimintating political rivals.

war is hell for the iraqis, most americans are not directly effected.

again

finish what job?

tell that to the iraqis that voted for their rights and are fighting side by side Americans

Robust-
re: "tell that to the iraqis that voted for their rights and are fighting side by side Americans"

Yeah. You just cheered their deaths.

like i said before put uniforms on your soldiers and you get your civilians killed

80% of the population wants US out within 1 year

2/3 of the population favor a strong central govt.

2/3 favor govt owning oil, not privitization.

but keep cheering the deaths of our allies.

again, what job?

who's millitia are we fighting for and against?

like i said before put uniforms on your soldiers and you get your civilians killed

Posted by robustpierre

we put uniforms on them, they turned against other uniformed security forces

Why the fuck are we in Iraq again?!?

to win

Win what?

good question

Hearts and Minds?

no just win

Win what? Rogue nation of the years award?

Its okay that you wouldn't know that... laser guided bombs are pretty new.

Yes I remember one such incident in Kosovo. A perfect strike on the Chinese Embassy.

Why are we in Korea with 35,000 troops for some 58 years, or so?

Why are we in Europe for some 64 years, or so?

Why are we in Iraq for some five years, or so?

Get a grip.

Our casualties in Iraq are an annualized one per 375,000 people in our population. That's a really big impact and a reason to make our involvement a primary focus of our lives? It's a sideshow, and needs to be relegated to what its relative importance defines it to be. (And if this military demographic had been civilians, they would have suffered greater losses as civilians than they have in the military.)

Our expenditures for "national defense" now, including support of our forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, are at a near all time low at some 4+% of the GNP, compared to a 9% +/- of the GNP for decades.

What's all the fuss about? Why is this even in the news? It's a media orchestrated interest which is disproportionate to the relevancy of the event to the lives of Americans.

So, some civilians were killed in Afghanistn, that is if they were civilians. It's more dangerous living in a war zone than elsewhere, particularly if your "colleagues" disguise themselves as civilians, and fire from positions among you.

If your amigos want to use you as human shields, and you are averse to that, then get rid of your amigos, so that you'll live in a more peaceful environment. Support them and suffer the consequences.

Although it is of no great import, these Islamics are prone to issue misleading statements as a tactic to compromise our ability to fight the war. The Haditha accusations fostered by the renegade scumbag Murtha and another anti-American leftist employed by Time-Warner, have been dismissed as false.

The complaint of many returning servicemen is that their hands are tied. We could have pacified Iraq early on by razing the al-Sadr stronghold in Baghdad, and killing him when his forces first engaged us there, and by also destroying his stronghold in Basra. We could have accomplished this largely with airpower and artillery fire and a minimum of casualties. But decadent as we are, we extend the conflict and conduct it in a way that places our people at greater risk.

I wonder how the Chinese in Tibet, who are pragmatic people, will modify their tactics to accommodate the Tibetans opposing them?

Why are we in Korea with 35,000 troops for some 58 years, or so?

TH: UN mandate

Why are we in Europe for some 64 years, or so?

TH: Nato treaty

Why are we in Iraq for some five years, or so?

TH: war of aggression

Our casualties in Iraq are an annualized one per 375,000 people in our population.

actually our casualties (officially acknowledged) are 44241

so that puts you annualized bullshit closer to 13500, which I would imagine is closer to the average size of a good sized town in this great nation, so every year ever town in america suffers a casualty?

got ya nothing to see hear

i realize YOU dont care about the millions of iraqi lives we have impacted but those of use with a conscience are bothered by it.
