To believe what Obama is saying now, we have to believe that Wright only started making these comments recently, and that Obama was only on notice of Wright's insanity for a short time. Otherwise, Obama's comments make no sense. If Wright was making comments like these for 20 years (which is more probable), then why did Obama wait until now to give the ultimatum (either he leaves, or I leave)?

And why did he refer to Wright as his "spiritual mentor" if he was supposedly unwilling to remain a member of Wright's church unless Wright left?

TONY, I'm glad you're here. Perhaps you can answer these questions. If Wright was making comments like these for 20 years, then why did Obama wait until now to give the ultimatum (either he leaves, or I leave)?

And why did he refer to Wright as his "spiritual mentor" if he was supposedly unwilling to remain a member of Wright's church unless Wright left?

Why would Wright say "I did not mentor him" when Obama said that he did?

Twenty years is a long time to wait for someone to retire. Why didn't Obama just find another church, the pastor of which wasn't a flaming racist? There are hundreds of them in the greater Chicago area.

Tony, your quotes don't really answer the question. The question is, why did Obama wait so long to say "If he doesn't leave, I'll leave." Why does he say that now after sticking around for 20 years? If the sermons that he "occassionally deeply disagreed with" were enough to say he'd leave if Wright hadn't, then why didn't he leave in the first place?
