Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

White House hopeful Barack Obama suggests he would have left his Chicago church had his longtime pastor, whose fiery anti-American comments about U.S. foreign policy and race relations threatened Obama's campaign, not stepped down. "Had the reverend not retired, and had he not acknowledged that what he had said had deeply offended people and were inappropriate and mischaracterized what I believe is the greatness of this country, for all its flaws, then I wouldn't have felt comfortable staying at the church," Obama said Thursday during a taping of The View that airs today.

right...and I have some ocean-front property in Arizona to sell you....

I guess the Wright boo boo needed another band aide. And here I thought all you lefties had fallen back in lockstep. I have to guess some dems are not sold on racism being okay. Or that there are some dems that still have pride in America.

Wright retires May 2008.

The shit is getting so deep, you'd better go get your Demosnorkels.

I hope you guys don't harbor your resentment against Obama once he's president. Hopefully you'll be able to let go, move on, and be grateful that our 8 year national nightmare has come to an end.

And I'm assuming that you've learned a life lesson about who you associate yourself with, and that you've cut off all relations with any friends who have given even a hint of being anti-establishment in their thinking.

"Or that there are some dems that still have pride in America."

Well, we have pride in what's left of America after the Republicans have done all they can to destroy it. We have pride in the pieces and will try to put them back together with Obama leading the way.
He ought to let this story die. He should not have made any more comments, it just gets worse when he does.

I guess the Wright boo boo needed another band aide.

Why do I get the feeling that the same people who thought Obama should renounce and condemn Wright more strongly will find fault in what he just said? It's almost as if nothing he could do in this matter would make you happy, and this is just a bunch of invented outrage to hurt the probable Dem nominee.

When you find yourself in a hole, quit digging...

We are finally seeing what this guy is really about. And integrity is not part of it.

And I'm assuming that you've learned a life lesson about who you associate yourself with, and that you've cut off all relations with any friends who have given even a hint of being anti-establishment in their thinking.

Are any of us running for President based off of nothing more than Hope, Change, and Judgement?
If you haven't noticed pud, "Hope" and "Change" aren't able to be scrutinized, but "Judgement" can be evaluated.

You and your ilk are going to be mighty disappointed when Obama gets throttled by McCain.

It's going to be hilarious watching you losers throw hissy fits for 4 more years.

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't? Why does that sound familiar...Oh yeah, that has been exactly what many of us that aren't leftwing losers have been saying you guys have done in regards to Bush.

Chair, you're talking like a typical white person looking down your garlic nose at others.

We'll see about that, Stillborne. You've been bending over for Bush for 8 years, and you're still the Queen of Hissy Fits. It must still hurt.

Wright retired on February 10, 2008.

Yeah, Obama would have felt uncomfortable staying in a church where he was a member for 20 years, where the pastor in question married Barak and wife, the same pastor who baptized the Obama daughters, the same pastor who has been belching Black Liberation theology racism his entire career.
Yes, I'm sure Obama would have felt uncomfortable staying.

It's good to know that it took only 20 years for the astute and discerning Obama to see the light!

Serious question for Obama supporters: Do you believe Obama's telling the truth here?

Walt, you of all people should know about the burgeoning trade in heroin these days. You really think Wright was dead wrong when he said the gov carries some responsibility for letting it into the inner cities?

Don't forget titling his book after a line from a speech Wright gave DoubtingThomas...

Didn't Obama say in his speech that he can't disown this bag of shit?

"Another example of his poor judgement?"

The example of bad judgement was the decision to go on The View....ewwwww! That show makes me ill. Those women make me ill.

Rcade...I think rasism in any form is harmful. I can not reconcile 20 years in a church that teaches such nonsense ...Wright nor Parsley. No matter how he tries to paint it...20 years!
Life is tough and for young black kids...it is more so. Then this geezer puts a huge chip on their shoulder...stoking the anger. Do you really think that his inflammatory rhetoric was/is helping his race?
Take that 20 years into account add to that the other things BHO and his wife have espoused and yes...I still find fault with him.
He is running for POTUS...not a mayor.

Wright retired on February 10, 2008.

Yes, but not for the reasons his campaign would want us to believe. He'd have to for politcal reasons.

Look, I'm the first to decry phoney outrage, but the man's close personal friend and advisor was screaming "God Damn America" to a cheering and adoring congregation. There is nothing invented here... If Obama were White and this pastor were too, and you flipped everything Wright said about Whites to Blacks, his campaign would be over and you know it.

I hope the GOP has enough footage on Wright to really bury him in the fall...

Run away like all of the unoriginal droolers before you.

Serious question for Obama supporters: Do you believe Obama's telling the truth here?

Walt, I think you (Oorah) need to qualify this with "if he weren't running for president." And then you know the answer. If he were running for President and wanted to continue to do so, then yes I think he would have left the church if Wright stayed.

But as we heard from Obama himself he has heard Wright say these types of things before, and he didn't leave the church... FOR 20 YEARS!!!

There is nothing different about Obama when compared to every other man/woman who has wanted to be President... this Change talk is the purest form of bullshit.

Obama didn't actually say he "would leave." He said he would be "uncomfortable staying." Those aren't necessarily the same things.

He needs to shut up about this. These new comments are Clintonian.

Every once in a while you make perfect sense!

MIDI-
Thanks for playing.

If one believes Obama's being truthful (and he may be)... how does one square that with Obama having Wright join his campaign as a spiritual advisor (or something akin to that)?

Unlike the Anita Hill "defense" of sticking with Thomas in order to further her career... Obama has nothing to "gain" careerwise by clinging closely with Wright.

So that leads to a couple of questions: Was Obama aware of the nature of his preacher's rhetoric? And if he was, then Obama either agreed with it or didn't disagree enough to purge Wright from his campaign. Why?

I have no reason to believe that Obama would not leave.

Larry Mohr

So the fact that he made these comments only after it was inconvenient for him means nothing to you Larry?

LARRY-
My 9:51am post gave a reason for doubt. Your thoughts?

Was Obama aware of the nature of his preacher's rhetoric?

By his own admission in last weeks speech, he was aware.

if he was, then Obama either agreed with it or didn't disagree enough to purge Wright from his campaign.

He stayed with the church for 20 years, and made Wright a part of his campaign. Its safe to say Obama agrees with the thoughts and statements of Rev. Wright.

The thing about this newest example of poor judgement is that it is counter to what the Obamites have been telling us.
If there was nothing to this Obama wouldn't be addressing it. As the Obamites like to point out "The people making a big deal about this wouldn't vote for him any way". If that's the case, ye blind followers, why is Barack addressing it on The View? If it hasn't hurt him why is he still trying to distance himself?

If this second hand association is no big deal (according to you clowns), why is Obama treating it as if it were a big deal?

Maybe you Obama "apple polishers" should update him on the talking points, because somebody failed to tell him this was no big deal.

Do you support increased spending for educational programs for poor children?

Do you support increased spending for healthcare for poor children?

From what I have seen you are consistently against most, if not all, welfare programs. So how accountable are you now?

"Why do I get the feeling that the same people who thought Obama should renounce and condemn Wright more strongly will find fault in what he just said? It's almost as if nothing he could do in this matter would make you happy"

You're right. Because he's lying. To believe what Obama is saying now, we have to believe that Wright only started making these comments recently, and that Obama was only on notice of Wright's insanity for a short time. Otherwise, Obama's comments make no sense. If Wright was making comments like these for 20 years (which is more probable), then why did Obama wait until now to give the ultimatum (either he leaves, or I leave)?

And why did he refer to Wright as his "spiritual mentor" if he was supposedly unwilling to remain a member of Wright's church unless Wright left?

see rob is for only himself

Ask any American if they'll support being heavily taxed to support programs that will produce little if any results and see how many sign up...

I love it when whites make this assertion that the problem with African-Americans is that they are African-Americans, it just makes that individual look foolish.

Obama never would have left Wright's church whether Wright was there or not, if Obama didn't want to be president. Obama saying he would have left is a lie.

Well we have all known there is a lack of real substance behind the speechifying......now that that veneer has worn thin, even worse now we see he is a poor strategic liar.

"Only one man knows the truth about Obama's spiritual truth, It isn't for Me to not believe Him when He says that He would have left. Therefore I have to take Him at His word." - LARRY

The topic of Obama's spiritual truth (Christianity vs Islam) is not what I'm asking about. I'm specifically asking whether people believe him in this instance.

How do you square your belief with Obama's desire to have Rev Wright as part of his campaign team?

I'm not deflecting to Clinton, Bush or anything else regarding Obama. On this specific Obama statement... do you believe him? Why/why not?

hey I forgot all about Bosnia .

101, that last part wasn't directed at Kerrin, that is more directed at this whole thread. I realize that Rev. Wright is all Republicans have against Obama so they are going to harp on it. I have come to the decision that it is easier to let the narrow minded focus on this insignificant issue rather than real policy issues.

Ok now I am really out of here.

Washington DC spends more per student than any other school district in the country yet has one of the worst school systems in America. More money does not equal a better education. Educations starts at home.

In March 2007, New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor published a brief story about how Rev. Jeremiah Wright had been uninvited from delivering the invocation before Barack Obama's official presidential announcement.

Wright responded by writing the following letter:

March 11, 2007

Jodi Kantor
The New York Times
9 West 43rd Street
New York,
New York 10036-3959

Dear Jodi:

Thank you for engaging in one of the biggest misrepresentations of the truth I have ever seen in sixty-five years. You sat and shared with me for two hours. You told me you were doing a "Spiritual Biography" of Senator Barack Obama. For two hours, I shared with you how I thought he was the most principled individual in public service that I have ever met.

For two hours, I talked with you about how idealistic he was. For two hours I shared with you what a genuine human being he was. I told you how incredible he was as a man who was an African American in public service, and as a man who refused to announce his candidacy for President until Carol Moseley Braun indicated one way or the other whether or not she was going to run.

I told you what a dreamer he was. I told you how idealistic he was. We talked about how refreshing it would be for someone who knew about Islam to be in the Oval Office. Your own question to me was, Didn't I think it would be incredible to have somebody in the Oval Office who not only knew about Muslims, but had living and breathing Muslims in his own family? I told you how important it would be to have a man who not only knew the difference between Shiites and Sunnis prior to 9/11/01 in the Oval Office, but also how important it would be to have a man who knew what Sufism was; a man who understood that there were different branches of Judaism; a man who knew the difference between Hasidic Jews, Orthodox Jews, Conservative Jews and Reformed Jews; and a man who was a devout Christian, but who did not prejudge others because they believed something other than what he believed.

I talked about how rare it was to meet a man whose Christianity was not just "in word only." I talked about Barack being a person who lived his faith and did not argue his faith. I talked about Barack as a person who did not draw doctrinal lines in the sand nor consign other people to hell if they did not believe what he believed.

Out of a two-hour conversation with you about Barack's spiritual journey and my protesting to you that I had not shaped him nor formed him, that I had not mentored him or made him the man he was, even though I would love to take that credit, you did not print any of that. When I told you, using one of your own Jewish stories from the Hebrew Bible as to how God asked Moses, "What is that in your hand?," that Barack was like that when I met him. Barack had it "in his hand." Barack had in his grasp a uniqueness in terms of his spiritual development that one is hard put to find in the 21st century, and you did not print that.

As I was just starting to say a moment ago, Jodi, out of two hours of conversation I spent approximately five to seven minutes on Barack's taking advice from one of his trusted campaign people and deeming it unwise to make me the media spotlight on the day of his announcing his candidacy for the Presidency and what do you print? You and your editor proceeded to present to the general public a snippet, a printed "sound byte" and a titillating and tantalizing article about his disinviting me to the Invocation on the day of his announcing his candidacy.

I have never been exposed to that kind of duplicitous behavior before, and I want to write you publicly to let you know that I do not approve of it and will not be party to any further smearing of the name, the reputation, the integrity or the character of perhaps this nation's first (and maybe even only) honest candidate offering himself for public service as the person to occupy the Oval Office.

Your editor is a sensationalist. For you to even mention that makes me doubt your credibility, and I am looking forward to see how you are going to butcher what else I had to say concerning Senator Obama's "Spiritual Biography." Our Conference Minister, the Reverend Jane Fisler Hoffman, a white woman who belongs to a Black church that Hannity of "Hannity and Colmes" is trying to trash, set the record straight for you in terms of who I am and in terms of who we are as the church to which Barack has belonged for over twenty years.

The president of our denomination, the Reverend John Thomas, has offered to try to help you clarify in your confused head what Trinity Church is even though you spent the entire weekend with us setting me up to interview me for what turned out to be a smear of the Senator; and yet The New York Times continues to roll on making the truth what it wants to be the truth. I do not remember reading in your article that Barack had apologized for listening to that bad information and bad advice. Did I miss it? Or did your editor cut it out? Either way, you do not have to worry about hearing anything else from me for you to edit or "spin" because you are more interested in journalism than in truth.

Forgive me for having a momentary lapse. I forgot that The New York Times was leading the bandwagon in trumpeting why it is we should have gone into an illegal war. The New York Times became George Bush and the Republican Party's national "blog." The New York Times played a role in the outing of Valerie Plame. I do not know why I thought The New York Times had actually repented and was going to exhibit a different kind of behavior.

Maybe it was my faith in the Jewish Holy Day of Roshashana. Maybe it was my being caught up in the euphoria of the Season of Lent; but whatever it is or was, I was sadly mistaken. There is no repentance on the part of The New York Times. There is no integrity when it comes to The Times. You should do well with that paper, Jodi. You looked me straight in my face and told me a lie!

Sincerely and respectfully yours,

Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., Senior Pastor
Trinity United Church of Christ

No deflection at all, LARRY. In fact, I sensed you were deflecting by veering off into "Obama's spiritual truth" as you indicated in your 10:01 am post. I specifically didn't want the conversation to drift into the 'is he a Muslim in disguise' area. If I misinterpreted your phrasing, I apologize.

I'll ask again. How do you square your belief in what Obama's saying with his having kept Rev Wright on his campaign team as a spiritual advisor?

You are too stupid to livce on your own.

Ouch. Well aware.

CPAs are nothing but helpful to about 99.9% of the population

CPAs are swine that make money exploiting the countless loopholes in the currently fucked up tax code.

But as bad as they are, it is the government who bears the brunt of the blame, because they are the corrupt vermin that allowed the IRS to become what it is.

I told you how incredible he was as a man who was an African American in public service, and as a man who refused to announce his candidacy for President until Carol Moseley Braun indicated one way or the other whether or not she was going to run.

Are you fucking kidding me? Why? She's another whack job black panther wanna be.

Barack didn't star in any Pam Greer Blaxploitation movies did he?

"How do you square your belief in what Obama's saying with his having kept Rev Wright on his campaign team as a spiritual advisor?"

uhmm he's a retired pastor
he's not on the obama campaign team

The New York Times became George Bush and the Republican Party's national "blog."

Rev. Wright

Okay, now no one should vote for Obama cuz he chose a complete fucking retard for a mentor.

on the black and white

mccain knows racists support him

thats why he keeps his adopted brown daughter out of family pictures

Oohrah simple. One could have a bitch for a Mother and refuse to live with Her but yet still seak out Her advice from time to time.

......HEY you now who really sucks ass? Firemen! always savin people's lives all the time! FUCKERS!and Nurses! oh yeah and those fuckin Pediatricians! Bastards! always makin our kids healthy! But yeah CPAs, man, i HATE them to pieces bro!

TONY, I'm glad you're here. Perhaps you can answer these questions. If Wright was making comments like these for 20 years, then why did Obama wait until now to give the ultimatum (either he leaves, or I leave)?

And why did he refer to Wright as his "spiritual mentor" if he was supposedly unwilling to remain a member of Wright's church unless Wright left?

Why would Wright say "I did not mentor him" when Obama said that he did?

but Walt, CPAs help the higher earners to even the score of the fucked up tax code.... they end up not having to pay an inordinate amount of taxes to the government thanks to CPAs.

Isn't it interesting all the things Obama would have done?

He would have voted against the Iraq resolution, even if the President and the Secretary of State had personally assured him that inspections would be completed before any force were used.

He would have not pulled such a "boneheaded" move as to have Tony Rezko help finance his purchase of a new home.

And now he would have left his church if his Pastor had not left, even thought he has had 20 years of listening to and reading this same anti-American and racist propaganda for the past 20 years.

"Woulda, coulda, shoulda", I think is what many might say.

But yeah CPAs, man, i HATE them to pieces bro!

You must be a CPA. Guess maw is proud. Figure out ways to cheat the system for an honest day's work.

The IRS is a mangy, rabid dog and so is the tax code, both need to be put down. Implement the Fair Tax.

Cheers,
Walt

This is started to convince me that Obama is just like all other politicians.

They all go into apology mode when a scandal comes up. Vitter, Spitzer, Clinton. (the list can go on and on including both parties)

Barack has to say this because the tape was leaked. If no one had ever leaked that tape I don't think that Obama would have left the church even if Rev Wright had stayed.

Good point, Seaton. Obama sounds like a great Monday morning quarterback.

there's been some talk that my name is Fredo Corleone and I suppose this refers to some movie character or something and also Hans is obsessed with the belief that I also am the user "Santino".
Well in the spirit of full disclosure my name is Alfredo Cisneros . I live in San Diego. I am single. here is a link to my photo.

Thanks

Clarity is not completely lost on this site.

Exactly.

Hail Hillary, I mean Oblahma.

"How am I not to believe that Obama would not have left His Church if His spirit told Him to. I have to take Him at His word.

Larry Mohr"

Larry's hypocrisy knows no bounds. He'll question all authority unless it has a 'D' behind it. When talking about Obama, he even capitalizes the 'H' of 'his' and 'him,' much like a disciple writing about his messiah.

If Obama keeps throwing Wright under the bus like this.....you watch, Wright is going to get pissed off and come out and start publicly firing back at Obama and start telling us some REALLY interesting stuff. "Get your popcorn ready"

Twenty years is a long time to wait for someone to retire. Why didn't Obama just find another church, the pastor of which wasn't a flaming racist? There are hundreds of them in the greater Chicago area.

Obama will be advised to keep his mouth shut, and just keep answering "no comment". Nothing he's said makes sense. Hillary Clinton has the worst negatives of any candidate in years; she can't even talk about a plane ride to Bosnia without it being obvious within minutes she's a liar. And yet Obama and Hillary are tied in the polls.

So don't try to convince me that this so-called pastor flap has had no effect on Obama.

You know I think I have You on the Right figured out. You are doing Your level best to trash Obama because You know God damned good and well that McBushSuckUp doesn't stand a Chance against Obama but does with Hillary. Y'all are pulling a JeffJ. Trashing the one You don't want to compete against so You can get an easy win.

Larry Mohr

RIR..in Hillary's defense, when she got off the plane in Bosnia, someone yelled "Duck", so she thought sniper's were shooting. The true story is Chelsea asked someone what was for dinner. A simple mistake.

You are doing Your level best to trash Obama because You know God damned good and well that McBushSuckUp doesn't stand a Chance against Obama but does with Hillary

According to recent polls McCain holds a 10 point lead over Obama...

Also polls say that more of Hillary's supporters will vote for McCain if she loses then Obama supporters would. So its actually in our best interest that Hillary lose the primary... at the same time its in our best interest to make these two fight for as long as possible so that Obama doesn't go into the general election campaign uninjured...

nah Larry we'll take either one.

can you say- "cakewalk" ?

Larry, if you believe that Oblahma is not lying about this, well there really is no hope. Even a die hard supporter should be able to spot a blatant lie.

This is a blatant lie.

Take a look at what Obama was saying about Wright BEFORE the sermons became an issue and see if anyone can find hypocrisy in what he stated.

This Saturday's South Carolina primary could make or break Barack Obama's presidential aspirations. The Illinois Senator was interviewed by phone on Monday by Beliefnet politics editor Dan Gilgoff.

Q:Preaching in church last Sunday, your longtime pastor, Jeremiah Wright, said that Bill Clinton "Did the same thing to us that he did to Monica Lewinsky." And he was criticized recently for his church magazine's decision to give an award to Louis Farrakhan. Do you worry that the country is forming a certain impression of Jeremiah Wright that's a different than the man who brought you to Christianity?

O:It's a tricky thing, anybody's relationship with their pastor. Reverend Wright's about to retire in a month. He's at the end of a long and distinguished career.

People who are familiar with the black church tradition know that Reverend Wright's considered one of the greatest preachers in the country. Our church, Trinity United Church of Christ, even though it is part of a 95-, 97-percent white denomination, very much draws on the historical black church tradition and Reverend Wright's sermons do as well. And that means that sometimes he's provocative in ways that I'm not always comfortable with and in ways that I deeply disagree with occasionally.

On the other hand, there are times where when he's talking about scripture and sort of our obligations as Christians to serve the least of these, he is right on target. And so, I think, like anybody else, I am proud of Reverend Wright and what he's done in his life and the people that he has drawn to Christ and the work that he's done in prison ministries, providing housing for seniors and all kinds of wonderful work in the church. But there are going to be times where we disagree. I think that's probably not unique to me.

"at the same time its in our best interest to make these two fight for as long as possible "

Rob be careful not to perpetuate the myth that somehow the right is causing this race war within the Dem party.

This war sprang up within that party and is completely due to their own race/class intensive style of gathering voters.

Tony, your quotes don't really answer the question. The question is, why did Obama wait so long to say "If he doesn't leave, I'll leave." Why does he say that now after sticking around for 20 years? If the sermons that he "occassionally deeply disagreed with" were enough to say he'd leave if Wright hadn't, then why didn't he leave in the first place?

April 30, 2007
Few of those at Mr. Wright's tribute in March knew of the pressures that Mr. Obama's presidential run was placing on the relationship between the pastor and his star congregant. Mr. Wright's assertions of widespread white racism and his scorching remarks about American government have drawn criticism, and prompted the senator to cancel his delivery of the invocation when he formally announced his candidacy in February.

Mr. Obama, a Democratic presidential candidate who says he was only shielding his pastor from the spotlight, said he respected Mr. Wright's work for the poor and his fight against injustice. But "we don't agree on everything," Mr. Obama said. "I've never had a thorough conversation with him about all aspects of politics."

"A lot of people are going to say to Mr. Obama, are these your views?"(speaking of Wright)

Mr. Obama says they are not.

"The violence of 9/11 was inexcusable and without justification," he said in a recent interview. He was not at Trinity the day Mr. Wright delivered his remarks shortly after the attacks, Mr. Obama said, but "it sounds like he was trying to be provocative."

"Reverend Wright is a child of the 60s, and he often expresses himself in that language of con
