Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

From the Wright-written eulogy for scholar Asa Hilliard in the Dec. 2007 edition of the Trumpet magazine: "(Jesus') enemies had their opinion about Him... The Italians for the most part looked down their garlic noses at the Galileans."

Will Obama denounce these comments as well? How much more will come out about Wright before people stop saying these comments weren't "the norm?"

Yeah Obamatards why do you keep supporting racism.

LOL!

Do Obamatards agree with thes nutty conspiracy theories? Are they nutty conspiracy theorists too?

LOL!

Joe,
If you go to this video, and go to the 19 minute mark, play it backwards teice, with the volume at 9.3, and with Dark Side of the Moon playing, you'll understand the comments in context.
Sincerely,
American Unity and SanAntonioRogue

Joe,
You have to understand that blacks have been scared by slavery and that unless you're black you'll never understand that we can't be held accountable for anything ever.
Sincerely,
TonyRoma

Do Obamatards agree with thes nutty conspiracy theories? Are they nutty conspiracy theorists too?

I think the question that comes before those questions is whether or not Obama actually believes them or agrees with them.

I mean it isn't like King Paultard who actually wrote his own racist materials now is it.

"I just wish they'd give us some decent bleach to get the grass stains out of our robes."

--Senator Byrd (D) WV

"Everyone knows the Goverment didn't run the Klan. We showed a profit every year." -Senator Byrd (D) WV

All this was written before his friend and former parishoner vaulted to the front of the Democratic pack -- and before Obama denounced his previous comments on race, AIDS, etc.

Maybe Wright has changed. Hillary's pastor had good things to say about him:

"The Reverend Jeremiah Wright is an outstanding church leader whom I have heard speak a number of times. He has served for decades as a profound voice for justice and inclusion in our society. He has been a vocal critic of the racism, sexism and homophobia which still tarnish the American dream. To evaluate his dynamic ministry on the basis of two or three sound bites does a grave injustice to Dr. Wright, the members of his congregation, and the African-American church which has been the spiritual refuge of a people that has suffered from discrimination, disadvantage, and violence. Dr. Wright, a member of an integrated denomination, has been an agent of racial reconciliation while proclaiming perceptions and truths uncomfortable for some white people to hear. Those of us who are white Americans would do well to listen carefully to Dr. Wright rather than to use a few of his quotes to polarize. This is a critical time in America's history as we seek to repent of our racism. No matter which candidates prevail, let us use this time to listen again to one another and not to distort one another's truth," - Dean J. Snyder, Foundry United Methodist Church, March 19, 2008. Snyder is Hillary Clinton's pastor, although I'm not sure how often she attends his church.

"I mean it isn't like King Paultard who actually wrote his own racist materials now is it."

Deflection flag.

This is simply must-reading for any fair-minded person interested in the full Jeremiah Wright story. There are very, very few people in American religious life as respected as Martin Marty, few scholars as learned, few Christians as sincere. He has been a professor of religious history at the University of Chicago for 35 years, one of the greatest universities in the world. If you do not know of him, here his is Wikipedia page and his own home-page. More here. I have never met the man but I have read a fraction of his over 5,000 articles, was deeply informed by his masterful Fundamentalism Project (co-edited with Scott Appleby) for The Conservative Soul, and know of few more distinguished, principled or decent public figures. Along with Barack Obama, he will not disown Jeremiah Wright, or Trinity United Church of Christ, where he attended services and listened to many Wright sermons.

Read his full defense of Wright in the Chronicle of Higher Education. You will learn this:

In the early 1960s, at a time when many young people were being radicalized by the Vietnam War, Wright left college and volunteered to join the United States Marine Corps. After three years as a marine, he chose to serve three more as a naval medical technician, during which time he received several White House commendations. He came to Chicago to study not long after Martin Luther King Jr.'s murder in 1968, the U.S. bombing campaign in Cambodia in 1969, and the shooting of students at Kent State University in 1970.

This is a man the Fox News right calls an anti-American, a former marine who volunteered to serve his country in a war he opposed. Marty does not excuse some of the indefensible comments of Wright that have now been bludgeoned into our consciousness to the exclusion of all else. And those comments should not be excused. And they have not been excused by Obama. But Marty does say this:

The four S's charged against Wright -- segregation, separatism, sectarianism, and superiority -- don't stand up, as countless visitors can attest. I wish those whose vision has been distorted by sermon clips could have experienced what we and our white guests did when we worshiped there: feeling instantly at home.

Your spamming the thread doesn't change what Wright said. The words are there for everyone to see and make their own judgment. The guy said "The Italians for the most part looked down their garlic noses." I doubt much "context" would be provided if Hillary's pastor said something like "the blacks looked down their fried chicken noses."

Sorry you regard my posts as spam, Joe. As to one of Hillary's other pastor's, he's got his own problems:

December 2007? Couldn't you find something a little more recent Joe?
You rightwingers will go to any lengths to smear Obama by association.

Do you have actual video footage of him saying that in the eulogy? Do you know the context for saying this stuff? He could have been reading a transcript from Fox News Joe!

Check out this photo of Obama. Notice how his left hand is a lot lighter than his face.

www.breitbart.com

Maybe someone in the Klan has been studying Photoshop 101.

The face looks shadowed, but the palms of a black person are much much lighter than the rest of their skin.

"Notice how his left hand is a lot lighter than his face."

It's obvious that's from the lighting, as the entire far right side of his suit is far darker than his illuminated left shoulder. Can you Obama freaks get anything right? Your conspiracies are pathetic.

Maybe, because, of course, if the photo was doctored they'd only lightend his skin and not his clothing. I've never seen Obama's skin look that dark except in photos that had been purposely retouched.

lightend=lighten

"Check out this photo of Obama. Notice how his left hand is a lot lighter than his face."

This is a normal trait of the Baganda tribe.

"I've never seen Obama's skin look that dark except in photos that had been purposely retouched."

Well you have now. The room was dark on that side of him. I don't have a hangup with his having brown skin. Apparently you do.

LOL, Wisgod. Thanks for the moment of levity.

Apparently you do.

Lighten up, Joe.

Back on topic...Obama's pastor for 20 years and "spiritual mentor" thinks that the American government runs the Ku Klux Klan. Discuss.

Joe,
This is old. I only discuss "new" news. To the back page with you and your ancient stories.
Sincerely,
Rcade

From the Marty article I cited earlier:

It would be unfair to Wright to gloss over his abrasive -- to say the least -- edges, so, in the "Nobody's Perfect" column, I'll register some criticisms. To me, Trinity's honoring of Minister Louis Farrakhan was abhorrent and indefensible, and Wright's fantasies about the U.S. government's role in spreading AIDS distracting and harmful. He, himself, is also aware of the now-standard charge by some African-American clergy who say he is a victim of cultural lag, overinfluenced by the terrible racial situation when he was formed.

Having said that, and reserving the right to offer more criticisms, I've been too impressed by the way Wright preaches the Christian Gospel to break with him. Those who were part of his ministry for years -- school superintendents, nurses, legislators, teachers, laborers, the unemployed, the previously shunned and shamed, the anxious -- are not going to turn their backs on their pastor and prophet.

My hope is that Wright will learn something about himself and his views from all this media scrunity of his words and use the knowledge to re-evaluate some of his beliefs with regard to race. God works in mysterious ways, so you never know.

There is no excuse for saying that the American government runs the KKK. He is the black version of Buffalo Bob. I don't care about when he was born. Millions of people were born in that era that are not insane enough to say the things that he says. He is a nutjob, period.

Garlic Noses?

Well, so much for the Italian vote.

One has to wonder whether Sen Obama is himself a believer in black liberation theology, something not taught in most black churches. Since Reverend Wright is both his political and spiritual advisor, one would assume this to be the case.

One might also assume that Reverend Wright would be Senator Obama's "Billy Graham", though with a more colorful vocabulary.

Senator Obama's judgement in choosing his advisors is on the line, and he does need to address these issues, which in many case are not race related at all, but related to anti-Americanism and a certain bigotry as exhibited by the good Reverends remarks.

This thread sure is missing the usual suspects, I wonder why?
The rebuttal talking points must not have been issued yet.

and the japanese supported the black muslim durin ww2
-are there klansman in gov yes-do the run gov no
jasman

"This thread sure is missing the usual suspects, I wonder why?"

YEAH!

Cause why waste energy blathering hysterical about a cheap Jerry Falwell knock off!

But don't let me stop you! Please continue with your drama!

"Lighten up, Joe."

That's racist.

One might also assume that Reverend Wright would be Senator Obama's "Billy Graham", though with a more colorful vocabulary.

Speaking of "colorful" this is the same Reverend who used the word "sheeee-it" from the pulpit. Color it brown.

"though with a more colorful vocabulary."

You mean a more African-Americanal vocabulary.

If the government ran the Ku Klux Klan, it would have about 400,000 unionized employees, most of whom are black.

Ha! More Wright Hate? So wrong thinks Spud.

Do Obamatards agree with thes nutty conspiracy theories? Are they nutty conspiracy theorists too?

LOL!

Member has obviously become unhinged after his hero Ron Paul fell from the public eye under calls of being a racist and a wild eyed conspiracy theorist and now is projecting all the inner angst he felt upon being endlessly described as a Paultard on anybody who still understands that Obama is clearly the best candidate in the race.

Quite frankly having read a few of Reverend Wrights sermons Spud is mostly impressed by his main messages. ie No country is a God and thus shouldn't try and act like one, war unless in self defense in wrong, the Iraq war is an unjust war, the world is an unjust place and we need to fight for justice and equality.

Jesus wouldn't have a problem with Wright.

People like Hagee and Parsley and Hinn and Doug Coe and Robertson and other elements of the evDEVILicalk and Talibaptist cults in the US, on the other hand, might get a taste of Jebus wrath fer their immorality disguised as morality.

In terms of the KKK line? It's indisputable that many members of officialdom made up the inner ranks and sometimes the top ranmks of the KKK.

"Some of those that run forces
Are the same who burn crosses"

~Rage Against The Machine

That's just a sad truth.

08ama '08.

Be Well.

The only racist on this thread is quite clear JOE, no need to go any further.

LMAO. How is Joe a racist?

Hmmmm... Jesus wouldn't have a problem with rev. Wright ?

So Dethspud the main that has so much hatred in his heart knows what and how Jesus thinks. LOL

Maybe Dethspud is divine.

So say the Devil is dead and buried in Kilarney, More say he rose again and joined the British Army.
That makes as much sense as Dethspud professing how Jesus thinks.

Hey, as the PR man for Rev. Wright, I want you to know that we're not a bunch of sissies. Say what you want to concerning the KKK, we know that they're hateful, but we are to, and we'll return their ideas and conduct in spades. Yopu think they're bad. Try us.

We're not going to lie down and be run over. Just because the government is a surrogate for the KKK doesn't mean that we can't gain power. Even now, we're running our stealth candidate for the presidency in behalf of my hate-mongering ministry, the exalted ministry of Rev. Wright.

When our front candidate wins, it won't be the KKK in power, it'll be Rev. Wright, just like the Ayatollahs in Iran, the power behind the office. We'll be running the government according to the docrines of the Trinity Church.

The KKK will be out, and the Trinity Church, and the Nation of Islam, me Rev. Wright and my soulmate, Louis Farrakhan, will be in power. It'll be a silent coup.

Just as the Sunni minority, some 20%, ran the government of Iraq, so we, the Trinity Church and the Nation of Islam, will control the power of the United States of America. Think big.

You think whitey can hate? Wait until you see a real hater, one who has been honing his skills for decades. That's me, Rev. Wright and my crew of skilled haters.

Remember, Wright is right. And white is wrong.

I wonder why so many white folks seem to excuse the associations and conduct of Obama and the coterie of hate-mongers that he's chosen for his social group, those among whom he has chosen to live his life, and with whom he shares the intimate details and experiences of his life. Rev. Wright is a factor in his family, and Mrs. Obama complains to Rev. Wright concerning Obama.

I think that most of you whites, who do not call Obama to task, are closet racists, closet because you do not express your disdain for black people in words, but demonstrate it with your actions and stated positions. You don't even accord black people the power and autonomy to do anything that you will not condone. Approbation is your stock in trade. To you folks, people are not necessarily equivalent people. Blacks represent a special case.

If you set up equations:

(OKAY PEOPLE) = (OKAY PEOPLE)

(LOUSY PEOPLE) = (LOUSY PEOPLE)

(OKAY PEOPLE) are unequal to (LOUSY PEOPLE),

You enter another variable into the equation, a factor that converts one statement to be the equality of the other.

Your equations are:

(BLACK) (LOUSY PEOPLE) = (OKAY PEOPLE)

(BLACK) (OKAY PEOPLE) = (OKAY PEOPLE)

You accord the function any value necessary to derive the conclusion you require.

I wondered concerning this proclivity toward demeaning black people that is so widespread. It seems to me that it springs from regarding blacks not as people but as abstractions, and manipulating data to have blacks conform to an abstract image demanding preset conclusions.

I've heard the statement that the most segregated time of the day is church time on Sunday. So, interaction of most whites with blacks is superficial, and not based on social intimacy that ranges over the entire spectrum.

I attended Kingdom Hall as a kid. The tracts AWAKE and > and WATCHTOWER were scattered around the house. Jehovah's Witnesses are the most integrated church around. We interacted with blacks and Latinos and Asians, and people of all descriptions.

Consequently, we saw PEOPLE as PEOPLE. Black people shared the experience of other people, coped with the same problems, experienced the same relationships. People have their individual foibles and positive behaviors. The differences in the human experience are greatly exaggerated and distorted in the public forum.

You folks just don't regard black people as people. You have created a fantasy that you view as the prototypical black experience, and an experience that has uniformity and is shared by "all of the mythical blacks," who fit your image.

You are obsessed with being well-intentioned, and as a consequence have deprived black people of the capacity even to offend you. Being a black, who has a two decade association with hate-mongers does not disaqualify him because your implicit view of blacks is as being so inferior, and so unable to meet general standards, that black misbehavior that would be disqualifying for anyone else, is excused.

People tend to "meet expectations." Your racist attitudes and programs established pursuant thereto have done much to undermine black society and manhood in the United States. Spare black people your "goodness."

Some of the excuses advanced to excuse Obama's misconduct are so lame that it makes me wonder how they are seriously advanced.

The one that "gets me" the most is the declaration that the poster himself has sat through sermons in chruches, often hateful sermons, and that he the poster, did not quit the church but instead just ignored the blustering pastor.

In each case, it seems that the poster as a church member was either not in an urban area in which he would have had a choice of churches, but more importantly was compelled to attend church not vountarily but because he was brought to church by his parents.

Obama's two-decade association with his church and his hate-spewing pastor, was VOLUNTARY and long-time. There is nothing to vitiate the fact of his continued membership in a hate-mongering separatist church, his CHOICE of that church among many many others, and his VOLUNTARY continued membership.

... are not going to turn their backs on their pastor and prophet.

Wow! From the article you cite, the writer has elevated Rev. Wright from pastor to "Prophet."

Now that says something concerning the unmitigated gall of defenders of the hate-monger Rev. Wright.

I'm waiting for the publication of his prophesies, which of course, are the words of God speaking through his chosen vessel. Are Wright's denunciations of the United States, of whites, of Jews, the words of God? Marty has the temerity to make that assertion.

How much his congregation and Marty must idolize and adulate this hate-spewing vermin to dub him a "Prophet." So, "they" know, and "Marty knows" that God chose Rev. Wright as his "Prophet."
