Vice President Dick Cheney compared President Bush's decision to invade Iraq with President Gerald Ford's decision to pardon Richard Nixon. "He demonstrated, I think, great courage and great foresight, and the country was better off for what Jerry Ford did that day. And 30 years later, everybody recognized it."

"in thirty years i will re write history in the name of the galactic empire" - darth cheney

And Dick has been so right all along.

Last throws indeed

We all know that in 50 or 100 years he will be vindicated.

Again riiiiiight.

Or throes. Dick still sucks.

"Cheney went on to compare President Bush's decision to invade the country with President Gerald Ford's decision to pardon Richard Nixon."

In this, Big Dick is correct: Both Ford and Bush were wrong. And both heled reinforce the idea of the imperial presidency. But Gerald Ford could go to his grave knowing he didn't have anywhere near as much blood on his hands as the clodhopper from that former turkey and hog farm near Crawford.

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!!!

Ford was smart. Bush is a dumbass

"gerald ford died today, at the senseless age of 83, he was ravaged by wild boars" - snl skit from 10 years ago

Wasn't Ford the guy that was as dangerous with a golf club as Cheney is with a shotgun?

Ford was the courageous like a bunny.
He knew that Iraq would be a disaster but promised not to mention it while he was alive.

Better to remain silent and not buck his precious party than speak the truth and save his obviously less precious country.

A typical Rethug party over country traitor.

Dig him up and fuck him with a rake the coward.

Ford would be proud of Michigan for leaving Obama off the ballot

Dig him up and fuck him with a rake the coward.

Ouch.

OWS - have another OWS and reflect on the possibility that Pres Ford was simply displaying some class by keeping his yapper out of it. Peanut Breath Carter could have taken lessons from Ford.

Right - Ford's "Courage" pardoned Nixon

Bush's "Courage" kills 4000 US troops and thousand upon thousand of others.

But don't despair, Dick Cheney. Maybe some future President will Pardon You. But you won't be here when and if they do, and by the way, they won't.

Now go shoot somebody and fuck yourself at the same time.

So?

Mrfair.
I stand by my previous statement.

Class? In what sense was it classy?

Class? In what sense was it classy?

OK, Monte - protocol, whatever. Former Presidents generally hadn't publicly interfered in the affairs of sitting Presidents. Those two hillbillies (surprise) Jimmy Carter and Bubba Clinton have been the guys to break that rule big time.

So President Ford did show some restraint and yes, class, compared to those two Hee-Haw Presidents.

Anyone that pardons "The Dick" Cheney will be haunted by me and many other like minded people. I will find a way to die several times so that I can haunt that bastard more fully.

Why should Dick Cheney be pardonned by any of these civil servants running for office. As far as I am concerned Dick Cheney is infallible. The Pope takes order from Cheney and the prophet Bush

Fords pardon of Nixon proved that some people are above the law. That power overrides law. That the law is for the little people. That the Constitution doesn't mean everyone is equal under the law.

That is something the country needed to learn. Bush proves it again, every day he is in power.

Bush is courageous?

Like Gerry Ford the FAILure?

Wow, Cheney is SOOOO WRONG it HURTS!

Impeach the lying evil sack of shit before he causes any more damage.

Do not listen to him seriously ever again.

You can only be wrong so many times in a row before you lose the right to be taken seriously.

Be Well.

"Whip Inflation Now"

That's about right.

This is the same guy that hid out in TANG-rather than serve his country in the theater of war......
Courageous?
Not on your life.

My kid Brother is a coward-scared of his own shadow.
Even HE has more courage than chimpy.

Wasn't Ford the guy that was as dangerous with a golf club as Cheney is with a shotgun?

Posted by keith204

NO!!! He was the man who couldn't chew gum and walk at the same time and RR was the guy that took long naps and let his people run the country. It wasn't that many years ago.

Ford was given the Vice-Presidency on the condition he would pardon Nixon.

Wealthier.

"And I'm as ethical as Bill and Hillary."

-Darth Cheney.

One stumbled over his own feet constantly, while the other stumbles over his own tongue constantly.

Bush is as courages as Gerald Ford or...as brainless as Gerald Ford?

All Bush has to do is start tripping down steps and in front of TV cameras a few times and he's there !!!

Dick Cheney on the floor of the Senate said to a sitting Senator, "FUCK YOU", well Mr. Dick Cheney I have just one thing to say to you "FUCK YOU", there now I feel better. This arrogant fuck need to have his ass kicked, what a fucking Asshole....Thirty, Fifty, or a Hundred Years from now this Administration, will live in infamy as the worst of our History. People late in this Century will ask what were the American People doing when these Assholes tried to kill our Constitution!!!

courageous???????????????

How about easily manipulated by Cheney/Chalabi and all the other evil fuckwads that surround him. Rice, Myers, Gonzo, Wolfy, Pearle, to name a few.

In Addition to Bush and Cheney trying to kill our Constitution....Look what these fuck-heads have done to our economy and national debt !!!!

www.cedarcomm.com

Actually it was "Go fuck yourself" and he said it to a senior Senator, Pat Leahy.

I think DICK set the bar for all of us that day.

Asshole !

You're right. It is no surprise that the first time a curse word was directed from one politician to another involved Cheney.

So in Cheney's mind a Presidential pardon is the equivalent to lying to start a war and killing 4,000 Americans.

We're in trouble.

"And I'm as ethical as Bill and Hillary."

At least we agree on something

Scary, ain't it?

When ever this War in Iraq comes up in the same sentence as Cheney, Please America remember that this fucking COWARD had his chance to serve this wonderful Country and when his number came up every time, actually 5 times he filed for a deferment. The Right Wing Assholes in this Country that voted for this Fuck for VP should be ashamed of themselves, what a fucking disgrace.

C'mon now. You know how tough it is on homosexuals in the military.

Mrfair.

One more thing: if you are suggesting we dig up and violate the corpse of Gerald Ford - presumably for the sin of not stopping the Iraq war, something he had no power over - then you should do the same or worse to Nixon and Johnson for their atrocities in Indochina.

Bush is no where as Courageous as MY Ford.

Long may she run!

Oh not that kind of Ford?

Bush Courageous? Right...

And I tend to think Bush is more like the Tin Man than the Cowardly Lion.

Unfortunately, Bush never got a Brain....even in the end.

I hear, perhaps, Karl Rove has it.

And Cheney?

Hmmm I don't remember who the Dick was.

Bush as Courageous as Ford

And as trustworthy as a Yugo....

How can you liken sparing one criminal in order to save the country a long drawn out embarassment with wasting thousands of lives and billions of dollars in order to cause the country a long drawn out embarassment?

Odd how the subject of courage comes up in this context. Saving your party further embarassment after the crimes committed by its leader is the height of courage? I for one disgree that it would have traumatised the country, at least until the whole unvarnished truth was dragged into the light of day - all Ford did was continue the coverup. Very brave of him.
Republican Courage - Fuck your country, save the Party at all costs!

YAWN. Is there nothing else to talk about other than more "we hate Bush"? The point has been taken. There IS other news out there.

Yes but as far as being a sleazy, slimy, treasonous mass murderer Gerry Ford can't hold a candle to Dubya Bush!

So?

Yours in death,

Your Royal Dickness.

p.s. Go fuck yourself America.

Alright now assuming for a second that that Cheney is right about Bush being a hero for invading Iraq he (Cheney) is still is a frigging gutless draft dodging wimp just like Bubba Clinton.

Cheney, Dick.

>>Cheney: Bush as Courageous as Ford

Sure is nice to know the USA is in safe and sane hands.

"He demonstrated, I think, great courage and great foresight, and the country was better off for what Jerry Ford did that day. And 30 years later, everybody recognized it."

This shithead needs a dose of reality based living.

Both Ford and Bush were not elected presidents, they were both apppointed. Ford was appointed by Nixon and Bush by the Supreme Court. Maybe that is what Cheney was referring to???

Regarding Ford's situation: Try looking at the 25th Amendment, genius. If Ford was bad or not qualified, Congress would not have confirmed his appointment.

And yes, the SCOTUS decided the 2000 election outcome and was agreed with by most thinking people, plus the New York Times, USA Today, etc etc.

MRFAIR - Ford still was not elected!! Remember he lost the election. He was only appointed by Nixon and the appointment approved by the Congress. So I still hold true that he was NOT an elected president, only an appointed one.

Also, Bush was appointed by the Supreme Court. There was never a recount in Florida, Bush did not win the popular vote, GORE DID!!!

Do you not remember Ford's picture was not put in Post Offices because he was not elected. Gee, time to put you back in school to re-learn history!!! IDIOT!!!!

Silence - I am no idiot. Of course Ford was not elected - I never said he was elected. In your wisdom do you think they should have held a special VP election after Agnew resigned?? LOL! That's what the 25th Amendment was for, Einstein.

As far as the popular vote / electoral vote: again please pour your wisdom out upon us all and maybe Congress just agree to change the whole thing.

BTW: George W. Bush was elected by electoral vote - not appointed, but confirmed by the SCOTUS. Maybe it is you who should take a lesson in RECENT history mny friend.

Dear Chairman Conyers:

Prominent Constitutional law experts believe President Bush has engaged in at least, five categories of repeated, defiant "high crimes and misdemeanors", which separately or together would allow Congress to subject the President to impeachment under Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution. The sworn oath of members of Congress is to uphold the Constitution. Failure of the members of Congress to pursue impeachment of President Bush is an affront to the founding fathers, the Constitution, and the people of the United States.

In addition to a criminal war of aggression in Iraq, in violation of our constitution, statutes and treaties, there are the arrests of thousands of Americans and their imprisonment without charges, the spying on Americans without juridical warrant, systematic torture, and the unprecedented wholesale, defiant signing statements declaring that the President, in his unbridled discretion, is the law.

In 2005, a plurality of the American people polled declared that they would favor impeachment of President Bush if it was shown that he did not tell the truth about the reasons for going to War in Iraq. Congress should use its authority under Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution to officially determine what President Bush knew before going to war in Iraq.

Your files and retrieval systems are bulging with over-whelming evidence behind all these five categories. When constitutional duty combines with the available evidence, inaction amounts to a suppression of that evidence from constitutional implementation.

In a January 6, 2008 op-ed in The Washington Post, former Senator George McGovern wrote an eloquently reasoned plea for the impeachment of George W. Bush. More than two out of three polled Americans want out of Iraq, believing it was a costly mistake.

Repeatedly during the past seven years, Mr. Bush has lectured the American people about "responsibility" and that actions with consequences must incur responsibility.

It is never too late to enforce the Constitution. It is never too late to uphold the rule of law. It is never too late to awaken the Congress to its sworn duties under the Constitution. But it will soon be too late to avoid the searing verdict of history when on January 21, 2009, George W. Bush becomes a fugitive from a justice that was never invoked by those in Congress so solely authorized to hold the President accountable.

Is this the way you and your colleagues wish to be remembered by the American people?

Sincerely,
Ralph Nader

Gee Ralph, why hasn't this happened?

THe answer is almost everyone in Washington has done something wrong in order to hold their official position. Bush's spying program has targeted EVERYONE (including Spitzer), not just terrorists. This is why the Democrats are silent. Almost everyone except Kucinich is being blackmailed.

Someone should tell Cheney that they've only got a few more months in office. Him trying to prove George Jr. is a man is as embarrassing now as it is pointless.

Bush: running on his successes

Like the success of No Child Left Behind
Like the success of the aftermath of Katrina
Like the success of the Housing Bubble
Like the success of the Cheney Energy Policies
Like the success of the Tax Cuts
Like the success of "Mission Accomplished"
Like the success of Abstinence Only
Like the success of "Healthy Forests"
Like the success of The Gwobal War on Tewwor
(just only in Iraq)
Like the success of the Dollar's strength

Damn, we can't take any more of Bush's "Successes"!

hehe....and look how many times Ford fell...

(drum roll please)....cue SNL and Chevy Chase
stumbling down a flight of airplane stairs...

Sam, I think your last Barber took a little too much off the top and accidentally gave you a lobotomy.

First: this thread is about Bush vs. Ford in the "courage" department - you may want to address this topic.

Second: About half of your tired old talking points either can't be blamed on GWB or can't be called failures.

Yes people have legitimate beefs with GWB but your cartoonish lists certainly don't help your case.
