Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The latest FEC reports appear to suggest that the Hillary campaign may be in the red: Despite a strong month of fund-raising in February in which she brought in $35 million, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton finished the month essentially in the red, once her campaign's outstanding debts are factored in, as well as her personal loan, according to filings submitted late last night to the Federal Election Commission.

After spending about $31 million in her efforts to keep up with Senator Barack Obama, Mrs. Clinton finished February with more than $33 million in cash on hand, but $21.5 million of that is earmarked exclusively for the general election, leaving her with $11.7 million for the primary.

Mrs. Clinton, however, loaned her campaign $5 million earlier this year and she listed $8.7 million in debts to various vendors, making clear why she has not yet paid herself back from her loan.

It should be noted, however, that Hillary isn't obliged to repay the $5 million debt to herself. Nonetheless, even factoring in that, once you subtract the other debts her cash on hand number would be in the neighborhood of $3 million.

By contrast, Obama has over $30 million on hand for the primary.

Here's where this really hurts: With the super-delegates. The Clintons' fundraising prowess has been one of the factors convincing the super-dels that this race isn't over and that they should wait out the contest. Revelations like this one could make it a good deal tougher to make this case.

The only reason the fat lady isn't singing is HC can't pay her yet

If her finances are that bad (BO has released add in PA.) it's time to "NEGOTIATE".

What ever you think about HC as a candidate money talks the rest walks, ask Biden, Dodd, Edwards, Richardson, 1st tier candidates who all would have been good POTUSes. Dems were bless with a good field but it did not help them for lack of money.

Can HC stay competitive in PA and the rest of the primary states? Will she go to BO? Will BO offer her anything?

Is this how she's gonna run the federal government, more deficits?

Let's get Biden and Edwards to endorse Obama this next week or so.

Hillary's Campaign is "in the Red"?

That time of the election cycle, eh?

/** Spud ducks **

//Yes, yes, Spud IS heartily ashamed of hisself!

Be Well.

"Here's the scenario that I'm worried about...
Let's suppose that Hillary has a very good day in Pennsylvania, perhaps a 15-20 point win. If that happens, there is no way the superdelegates are going to move to lock it down for Obama. It's likely that she will also do fairly well in Indiana, West Virginia, and Kentucky, chipping away at Obama's lead. She probably won't overcome his current margin, but she will be close enough to be able to make the case to the superdelegates that she has the momentum," TPM reader

Seems less likely with out a big infusion of cash. HC needs to crush BO in PA. don't see that happening.

That time of the election cycle, eh?

That CAN'T be good for the cigars...

Hmmm, ...now Spud is look askance at all them "wine tipped" cigarellos!

Be Well.

Nah, those are fine. It's the "whine-tipped" ones you have to look out for.

I wonder if the good voters in OH are feeling any buyer's remorse?

the Obama campaign is capitalizing on recently-released Hillary Clinton schedules from her time as First Lady that showed her working to help pass NAFTA in 1993. "It's about trust," an Obama campaign memo released to the media said. "Working Americans are looking for a president who will be consistent in standing up for American workers - and have the integrity to be consistent in his or her views. Senator Clinton has failed that test ... . American workers are already facing the uncertainly of a changing economy. The last thing they need is another president who changes views when there's an election coming up."

An ambassadorship to Bombay would be a good spot for the Clintons.

I cannot believe that Obama would take them to the WH in any capacity.

Granted that the Clintons having so many supporters is a real and ongoing problem for the Democratic party and the nation.

Wow. It may be time to REALLY pimp out Chelsea.

If Obama give the VP to Hill, that will appease many or her ardent supporters. I think he may have to, and she may want to take it now.

Just to remind you, Hillary Clinton has 35 years of experience on jobs and foreign policy. After all, she was on the board of directors of Wal-Mart Stores from 1986 to 1992. Each of those years, Wal-Mart's imports from China grew, and they quadrupled over those six years. Oh, yeah, Tiananmen Square was in 1989, wasn't it?

BR (Bill Richardson) wants the VP post and that is why he played the judas game (accused by cartoon face Carville).

Hillary will never be President and Obama has a fighting chance in 2016.

What? If BO dose that, he will wind up like JFK or in some scandle. HC as VP? Not a smart move at all! We all know how power hungry HC is for the with house and given one last shot in the dark she would take it!

I think HC's burned the VP bridge, I suspect the "dream ticket" idea was just floated to suggest that Obama would be the VP. I can't imagine her bringing anything positive to the Obama ticket.

Obama may not be able to win PA, but if he can close the gap to within single digits, the pressure for her to quit may become irresistable.

True, if she is on the ticket as VP, the repubs will still be able to make her the huge target they want to make her.

THIS JUST IN:

Hillary "Mis-spoke" about Bosnia. When describing herself as being under sniper fire and running with head down on landing to the car, she was referring to other people another day somewhere, somehow, according to the ever inventive Howard Wolfson..

Glad we cleared that up, now we have video of her "Arrival Ceremony"

The RED in Hilary's campaign is also the blush of being found out lying - AGAIN

The only reason the fat lady isn't singing is HC can't pay her yet

I thought SHE was the "fat lady"...!!!!

Sitdown, does she remember when she was running under sniper fire hiding her head?

Probably she dreams it every night, BigJohn.

I doubt anything could make Hillary! blush out of embarassment or shame.

I'm sure that if there was anyplace in the world where snipers were likely to have shot at her, Bill would have sent her there in '96.

BO should hold his nose and make the offer if she drops out now. It would further enhance his stature within the party, independents, and with HC's supporters. If he wins the nomination it would be hard for her supporters to sit out the general after making the offer. There would be an amicable even more important a unanimous convention. If she agrees the party is united, they can spend the next 4 months attacking JMC, kissing and making up, raking in the cash, refining the issues of the fall campaign, and working hard for all the down ticket candidates.

It's a win win for BO, most here agree she would refuse,BO has CYA. If HC continues in the race to the convention the VEEP spot would be removed as an arguing/negotiation point. They both need the super Ds with BO ahead in elected delegates the supers might look at the offer as the deciding factor to go with BO.

"Wow. It may be time to REALLY pimp out Chelsea."

I would definately pay 200 bucks an hour for that.

" Hillary will never be President and Obama has a fighting chance in 2016."

McCain won't live through two terms

if he does win, I suspect we'll have President Crist around 2010.

Her description of landing in Bosnia, on the Stephanopoulos show, is not misspeaking, Mr. Wolfson, it is out and out blatant fabrication:

someone stick a fork in this bitch. shes done.
seeing the democrats escape the clinton plantation: PRICELESS!

Yes in the Red. The Clinton's are modern day Fascists! The government is not your nanny!

If you look at some of the debts one item is HER PERSONAL LOAN to the campaign. As I said several times before I would like to see the terms of that loan because I am willing to bet there is some nice pocket change that is coming due. Don't be surprised to hear shortly that another shot in the arm for her campaign comes her way via another personal loan to herself. No matter how you slice it the Cliton modus operandi is me me me and more.

If she can't keep her own campaign's finances working well, how in the heck could she rescue the economy?!!!!!

As a Republican, I am glad that she is fighting on because Hillary and Obama are destroying each other and splitting the Democrat party which is now in total chaos. Thank goodness Hillary is so self-centered and power hungary that she cares more for herself than her party.

If I was a super there would be no way Id support her no matter how much momemtum she had after the liar syndrom about her expeience starts to make the news and is covered over and over and over and over.
