Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Four more US soldiers have been killed in Iraq, bringing the death toll since the invasion in 2003 close to 4,000. The US military said that in the latest incident on Saturday, three soldiers died when their vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb north-west of Baghdad. Another soldier died from injuries sustained in an attack south on Friday.

If this is going to continue for another 100 years, should we bother posting these anymore?

Apocalypto:

Yes-in no uncertain terms.
Every one of those men & women in uniform deserve the recognition, after all-they gave their lives BELIEVING they were fighting for their country.
For that reason alone-they're heroes in my book. It makes no difference to me that the war is illegal and was unfounded.

Yes, we need to put a human face on the killing before we become numb to it.

The Serge is werking and the casketmakers GDP numbers just showed another uptick.

Huzzah!

Four More Tears!

Be Well.

The American death toll in Iraq is almost 4,000. Not much by historical standards, but the number of disfigured and mental wrecks is many times higher.

In Bushes Saturday morning radio address yesterday he said..."I really appreciate our Soldiers dedication to our country over this holiday weekend"...then he was overheard saying..."Whats for lunch?"

I was being facetious in my comments. I definitely don't believe the reporting should cease, or even decrease. In fact, there should be a much higher frequency and depth of reporting from Iraq. This war is a much more serious chapter in history than the media has acknowledged. Furthermore, it has gone on for far too long, and it has lulled the lazy, inept and manipulated media into a deep slumber. Shame on them.

R.I.P. to ALL of the soldiers, Marines and others who have died there.

Four more Killed and the beats goes on, Maybe during this religious holiday season God may forgive the Bush Administration for this killing fields that they have brought to the Middle East, because History and eventually the American people will not.....What a fucking Disgrace!!!!!

A few right-wing posters here have a habit of comparing our KIA with, say, yearly traffic deaths in the U.S. Or they may say that 4,000 pales to the KIA of, say, VietNam. In some ways, hey, it's true.

However, context is all-important when discussing Iraq. We aren't fighting a war; we are fighting the people of Iraq, who are at the same time fighting each other because of the massive power vacuum we created. Oh, and we are also dealing with the influence of Iraq's neighbors, again because we took out the only stablizing force in the region.

So, in essence, if the American people believed Iraq was a just and necessary front, they'd probably be less outraged over this stat. Trouble is, most people believe it to be a war we entered without just cause, so each death is deemed an utter waste of human life.

The poor bastards were lied to. They may not have cared much that they were lied to, cuz they got three squares, a bed and a uniform up until the day they took one for the team. We'll probably hit the five thou mark before President Obama can stop it.

But yeah, we need to put a more human face on it: maybe on the survivors, the winter soldiers who commit suicide in the guilt of being forced to run over children or torture fellow humans; the marines suffering post-trauma stress disorders whom the V.A. will not help; the guy left sexually impotent who will have to empty a bag of fecal matter coming out of his side for the next fifty years.

The professional righties - and even worse, the professional veterans - who post here will tell 'em to suck it up, only "whimps," pussies and traitors complain. Damn ... I STILL don't believe in the death penalty. herm
