Go Pats!

A friend of mine's daughter said "Daddy, this is my favorite holiday of the year, we get to eat whatever we want!"

Anyone got any special concoctions that come out for the Super Bowl? My personal favorite is the fruit salad soaked in moonshine that someone picks up in a trip down to Kentucky at some point during the year.

Oh, and I'll take Pats -12 all day.

For the first year ever my wife and I will be going for different teams.

I hope our marriage survives.

What a great bachanial winter time holiday this Super Bowl has become. I dont give a ratsrump who wins, but we will most of us enjoy this day as a mini Thanksgiving day with food, libations and friends and family.
Hope all at the retort, from Rob, Vern, Deathspud, buffalo bob, oohah,Rev, Lisa, Tad...well, not Tad. and all the rest have a fun safe day.

Be well, as spud would advise us.

I'll take the Pats to win, but not to cover.

"I'll take the Pats to win, but not to cover."

I'll take the Giants to DUCK AND cover. Simpson will switch to brady after the game. Bigger hands.

OWS

Thanks for the sentiment. I think Spud is disappointed in some of the people here, and it's probably my fault. Its hard to find out that some people you liked and respected have harsh things to say about you when your back is turned. I think Spud will be back when he realises that the only opinion that matters is his own.

Spud is a great poster and cosmic friend to the universe. The hatin right wing is obviously threatened by his well supported observations.

The Retort misses him a damn site more than we ever missed 101, who, by the way, I expect will enjoying the game today, except for the fact that there are so many black men on TV.

Lets those of us who want tater to come home all finish our posts with Be Well as a show of support for our favorite Cannuck.

Be well,

OWS

I think that is an excellent idea.

By the way, I'm picking the giants by 2 touchdowns.

Think I can get odds?

THERE IS SO MUCH LOPSIDED MONEY ON THE PATRIOTS that all Vegas has to do is make a couple of "calls" to Arizona. Who do you think is on Tom Brady's headset, anyway!

SO THAT'S HOW THEY BUILT ALL OF THOSE CASINOS!

Giants will win by three

Go Patriots! It would be great to see an undefeated team at 19-0 for a season!

Go Giants! Give them a run for their money and give us a really great game today!

Murphy

THERE IS SO MUCH LOPSIDED MONEY ON THE PATRIOTS that all Vegas has to do is make a couple of "calls" to Arizona.

The line moved from 14 to 12. That would indicate that people were putting their money on NY, not NE.

i live on the phoenix/scottsdale border and have been watching the nfl media blitz all week. cavalcades of cars and vans with escorts and blimps over the nicer parts of town. tis been quite something.
i was out and about this morning about 7 and twas indeed nippy and cloudy... even got a bit of a drizzle. a hi of about 62 is expected and the showers are threatening. this is not what the nfl wanted, i am sure.
we get sunshine 360 days of the year... only when there's a golf or tennis tournament does it rain... and of course the superbowl this time. i guess that is why they put a lid on the eyesore that is the bidwell palace.
giants by 8 as brady won't finish the game.
i haven't been right in years but what the hey.
gotta make a stand.

all the best.

watch for the bad calls which will benefit the pats every time.

I know the pats will win, but I can't help to cheer for the underdog.

Go for his ankle boys!

Vegas doesn't care who wins. They adjust the line to reflect the amount of money bet on both teams and take their 10%. They stop taking bets on the favorite or underdog until they can adjust the line if things look like they might get unbalanced. They will usually make somewhere between 9% and 11% profit. Gamblers are those who place a bet not the bookies who take it.

Still, Pats -12 sounds like a good bet to me. I got Redskins +16 and a half straight up from my friend who's a legal bookie in Ireland. He's giving his customers Redskins +9 and a half straight up last I heard.

I have always thought, from your posts, that you were hopelessly confused, but I have to ask...

What game are you watching today?

Your bookie "friend" is going to make more then just the Vig today with people betting on the Redskins.

Now, there's some truth that would really hurt.

Does anybody know odds Vegas is giving for the game today?

The Patriots are favored by 12 points.

As for the Superbowl game -- I always like to root for the underdog so -- GO GIANTS!

Be well.

12 - 1, huh? Thanks!

Be well.

Hmmmm, I wonder if there's a good hockey game on?

Cjris, a 12 point favorite means that the Pats have to win by 12 for someone betting on them to win, not that they are 12-1 favorites.

Murphy

"Hey INWI!

Who are you rooting for today?"

Well...it's like this:

I want the Giants to win.

However....I am in the PWZ football challenge and am in 1st right now but since I had a lot of Packer players on that fantasy team who are obviously not playing, and could only replace 2 of them...I have three of the four players I have left, from the Pats.

I'm not stupid, you know!! lol

Typical Dem flag.

I have to agree with Lisa there Murph.

If you avoid grilling because it's cold or rainy out, you are a sissy and deserve to have you man-card demerited.

Crazy Train really must replace The Star Spangled Banner as the US National Anthem.

Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, and Tom Brady went to see God...

God asked Peyton Manning, "What do you believe?" He said, "I believe in family, winning, and going after everything you can when you got the opportunity."
God said, "I like that belief, take a seat on my left side."

God asked Brett Favre, "What do you believe?" He said, "I believe in winning, going after everything, taking care of family."
God said, "Man, I really like that belief, sit on my right side."

GOD asked Tom Brady, "What do you believe?"
Tom Brady says, "I believe you're in my seat."

Cyberbets anyone?

Giants win by 8 points. Always the optimist.

Congrats to the Giants--helluva game!

Murphy

Great Game right down to the last second.

Belichick, No Class...

Belichick...piece of shit!!

Congrats NY!!!

Awesome game!!

WOW!

You could not have scripted a better more exciting fourth quarter!

Archie Manning, you must be proud.

CONGRATS ALL THE WAY AROUND!

Pats played the same uninspired ball they've been playing since the final game of the season.

Congrats Giants. Well played.

Best quarter of football I can remember. Helmet catch was sensational!

I hate the Patriots more than any team ever assembled, so this was, for me, a wonderful day. Which followed about 120 very awful days where I had to watch them win, and win, and win. And thank God they didn't have to play the Cowboys in the big game--I probably would've just had to kill myself.

And, since I'm the unapologetic capitalist pig on the DR, whenever the NFC wins the Super Bowl, it's good for markets.

I'm happy, Wall Street's happy, Brady and Belichick are sad. Up, up and away!!

Giants win by 8 points. Always the optimist.

Ended up Giants 17- 14 so I wasn't too far off base -- especially with Vegas was giving 12-1 odds in favor of the Patriots.

Tom Petty -- terrific! Two of my favorite songs too.

Factoid -- this was the first time in history that two brothers (playing for two different teams) have won the Superbowl back to back.

Manning you did it! Hats off to the underdogs! Giants!

Truthy did call it. Almost, anyway. Did you place any wagers on the game? Or do you just get bragging rights to last awhile?

Oh, and I'll take Pats -12 all day

Can I still get some of that?

nope not a betting man, but i will brag the shit out of that one. I thought 24 21 but close enough for govt work.

* * * *

Couple of things. The Pats were 12 point favorites--that's not the same as 12-1 odds.

Also, I don't want to be indelicate, but what's the deal with these 65 year-old rockers? Godalmighty. I'd rather just have a national competition of high school bands, with the winner playing the Super Bowl crowd. The Rolling Stones were a disaster--they sucked, as always--and Tom Petty was the most uninspiring "artist" I've ever seen. Janet Jackson sucked too, but at least made things interesting in the end.

The reports are that the Super Bowl is in contract talkes with Coltrane and Foreigner for next year's show. Which means that the suckiness will continue.

I thought 24 21 but close enough for govt work.

Indeed it is. Congrats.

Wow. I must be in a good mood.

Yes! I am!! The Patriots suck!!

played out exactly as I predicted, tough G D, time management by Gmen, thought there would be a tad more scoring, was really sweating it with the first half mistakes but damd that d looked great.

trying to compare the 3 victories as a giants fan,

first was sweet as it was the first, but they were expected to win,

2nd was a nailbiter that they SHOULD have lost

but this one was sweet cause they shouldnt have made the playoffs let alone win itall, emotion got em there, momentum, beating the undefeated, just sweet!

have to go lay in bed thinking of the win over and over,

this will probably accompany most of my posts over hte next few weeks

"Is there anyone else that thinks the featured singer in the half time show would have done better as a no-show?"

It's yet another predictable dichotomy during the Super Bowl: (paid) twentysomethings running out, worshiping (on cue) music they've rarely heard before.

TH, I'm a Tampa fan. And I thought the way THEY ended their season was a disgrace. You're paid to play 16 games, then the playoffs. NOT to sit your starters on their ass the last three games, afraid that they might be injured or hurt. Stupid. Tampa was the favorite going into the first playoff game, at home, against NY--and I knew they were going to lose. KNEW it.

I was actually pulling for Green Bay against the Giants last week, because I thought GB would've had a better shot against the demonic, Satan-worshipping, infant-sacrificing, detestable scum-sucking New England Patriots. Then when GB lost, I became the world's number one Giants fan.

Now, I can go back to being me.

PS: The NFC won. Buy stocks.

...accompanying your posts.

LOL!

Hans

Since Thanksgiving the Giants were the best team in Football. If anyone was crazy enough to listen to the idiots from Fox, Nbc, Cnn,Espn or the Football network the Patriots were never to lose. These people know no more more than you or me experts my ASS. The best team ever what crap!!!

After Thanksgiving, I some small time fool from Northern California knew that the Giants were going to win, where were these experts, what a joke.....

After it became certain that the Pats were going to lose, I actually started feeling bad for them (And really bad for my 8 year old nephew who I knew was 300 miles away crying by that point)... They were 18-0 and either playing to be the greatest team ever or absolutely nothing... now they are nothing, and that kind of bummed me...

But then that toolbag Bill Belichick left the field before the game was over and that brought it all home. What a fucking clown! oh your team didn't win so you can't even stay on the field for the last play? Fucking cheater... good... this is what happens to cheaters... Now you have nothing, a lost draft pick and the United States Senate looking into your team... have a nice offseason fucker.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS.....18-1..Super Bowl Champs
CHICAGO BEARS...........18-1..Super Bowl Champs
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS....18-1..Super Bowl Losers

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS, BEST TEAM OF ALL TIME, ARE YOU FUCKING CRAZY?????? GIANTS 17..PATRIOTS 14
HA, HA, AH, HA, HA, HA fuck you NEW ENGLAND!!!

This is twice now that ESPN has done pretend games between a current team going into a championship vs. great teams from the past. A couple years back they compared USC vs. all the undefeated college teams of the past... pretty sure they had them beating them all but one or two. Then USC loses to Texas... They did the same thing with the Pats playing all the teams with 3 or maybe 4 super bowl wins... and of course ESPN has the Pats winning them all...

0-2 Guys...

Oh Lord, Bunghole! Don't make me actually agree with you about something!

NEW ENGLAND'S coach left the field before the game was over what a fucking loser!!!!! Win with class but also lose with CLASS, something this fuck knows nothing about!!!

Giants will win by three

Great call, Truthhurts.

Just think, if you had gone to Vegas and put down $1000 you would have walked away today with $12,000.

Okay, even if you didn't place a bet you still deserve bragging rights on here for at least a week!

By the way, there's only one New York football team.
The Buffalo Bills.
Congratulations New Jersey Giants.

Party in New Orleans again this year and I get to go!!!!

Wow. What an upset.

I was rooting for giant meteor or the pats to lose... its just a shame the Giants had to win for the Pats to lose...

Another thing I didn't like tonight was the need for the NFL to pick a QB again for the MVP... This is two years in a row where players were more deserving... Tyree saved the game for the pats on that desperation heave by Manning... Tuck had an amazing game with his two sacks and I believe a forced fumble...

Yeah, but as with the norm Butthole, reality has proven you wrong and you can't deal with it!

...ahhh back to normal.

Yeah, but as with the norm Butthole, reality has proven you wrong and you can't deal with it

What the fuck are you talking about delivery boy?

New Jersey thanks you, RASTACYBORG!

Boca isn't there a thread about dead troops you can be happy to be on?

Doesn't it bother you that they're ashamed to call themselves the New Jersey Giants?

Wish I had seen it. I spent the entire game perched on the edge of the top drive 50 feet above the rig floor changing a component.

You mean a thread about troops being killed from IED's that you get paid to detect?

...nope, you aren't "working" today.

Except for the last quarter Goat, it really was an extremely boring game...

It almost seemed like it was going to end 7-3 the way both teams played through the 3rd

No matter how many Super Bowls Tom Brady wins or loses he couldn't carry Joe Montanas jock strap. Only the idiots who consider themselves experts on FOX, NBC, CNN or ESPN thinks that it may be close but the true fan knows about Football Brady couldn't carry Montana's JOCK!!!

You mean a thread about troops being killed from IED's that you get paid to detect?

Good one

My favorite commericial tonight wasn't really a commercial at all... it was when they were saying who the game was sponsored by and a Terminator robot busted through and wrecked that retarded football robot... that one had me laughing.

Watched the game on FOX en espaol...which was nice, because it muted the tension--to a point. Then NY in their final drive...we'd all been saying, just give us a chance to win with 2 minutes left. Which is exactly what we got. Tyree's catch--sort of makes "the catch" look like some easy shit. This was more on the lines of "the immaculate reception." Crikey. And then Plaxico so alone that every NYer must have been thinking, "don't drop it!" He didn't. GMEN win! Rioting in the streets of NYC, and on the trails of Costa...

Props to Truth for the ballsy, early call on the spread.

The Giants played a good game.

Archie, you must be insanely jealous. You're the only manning who doesn't have a superbowl ring.....awwwwww.

Congrats to the giants for a game well played.

At least he got to play ball though... there is the oldest Manning (I think he's the oldest) who was actually a great receiver, but either hurt his back or had some genetic condition and had to stop playing before he could have gone pro... that dude has to be jealous.

Patriots second loss of the season, by my count....

Jets in game one, Giants in game nineteen. Any team caught cheating, especially after the league has warned them against it, should forfeit that game, at the least Still, a great team, but the record will be forever clouded.

Giants shocked the world with their "road" record. All congrats to Coach Coughlin and the Giants.

The second happiest folks in the world are the alums of the Miami Dolphins, still the only modern era team to go through regular season, playoffs, and Super Bowl undefeated. The happiest folks in the world, however, are RightisRight. and everyone around him. Congrats.

I've read where the two greatest things a man can impart to his son are 1) love of a sports team, and 2) hate of a different sports team.

They still have the prefect season. Regardless of what anyone says, it is a perfect season

While I agree they don't suck... they are great... in the end, they have nothing. I'm sure if you talk to Brady or Moss tonight, they gladly would have lost a regular season game to trade for a win tonight.

Jets in game one, Giants in game nineteen. Any team caught cheating, especially after the league has warned them against it, should forfeit that game, at the least Still, a great team, but the record will be forever clouded.

Don't think for a minute this story is over though... the senate investigation could bring up some other Patriots cheating issues... Goodell said after he punished them that if any more info wasn't disclosed and was learned later on they would be punished further.

Remember the name Matt Walsh... he was a video assistant from 99-03 when he was fired and claims to have some info on this subject and was never approached by the NFL when they were investigating the "spygate" story.

and there was the allegation that the Pats filmed the Rams last practice before they won as heavy underdogs in 2001... This "dynasty" could be in serious trouble.

You know what's funny Butthole? As a "Delivery boy," who was rookie FedEx manager on 9/11, I've probably had twice as much training on IED's than you have.

I worked on that project for a very short period of time before returning to my main project... must have really struck a chord with you for you to remember it because I barely do...

And the jammers work great tough guy... if you really knew anything about them, you would know that the word "Improvised" is more important then "explosive." When you become Commissioner of the NFL, you can change the Pats punishment. Until then.......

Congrats the Giants, they outplayed, out coached and showed great sportsmanship, I can't say the same for Belichick who refused to shake hands as he left the game after there were two seconds to go. Belichick the same coach who was caught cheating by video taping the other teams signals earlier in the season...

Well, I hope anyone who profited from last night's play didn't lose what they made on all the prop betting that was happening last night...

I have to say that I am fairly pleased with the results. But my comPatriot in arms (get it?), he was not nearly so pleased... although he did end up pulling down extrememly large amounts of money from the box scores he played. I have never seen a man so sad at winning close to $500.

NO. the patriots DO SUCK, big time, the CRY BABIES of the 21 Century

They were celebrating and acting like they were super studs, waaayyyyy to early. Then when they appear to have lost the game Belichick LEFT THE FIELD.

That's right the coach LEFT THE FIELD before the game was over, his whole team shortly thereafter.

The ultimate in POOR SPORTS. The coach should be fined for being a BAD SPORT

THE DETROIT LIONS almost beat these guys. Hey we're going to the next Super Bowl.

"almost beat these guys"

So did the Patriots last night.

Almost.

Should be interesting to see if Spagnuolo gets a serious look by Washington now...

I'll be shocked if New England keeps Moss. After this year he deserves a big payday, but the Patriots aren't known for paying receivers that type of money (See Deion Branch)... I'd like to think my Eagles would come in and get him like they did with Owens, but that would be smart so they won't.

Who gives a shit!

Straight men...

find another thread.

Regarding Fox Sports production values:

Why did the audio technician keep the level of the crowd at the same level as the two announcers? I could barely hear about a tenth of their blather. Did a consultant tell them loud crowd noise motivates 18-49 year old female viewers to go shopping? Or is it the result of Fox hiring a free-lancing college kid run audio to save money?

This was the first game I watched a game all season. Is this audio problem a trend? I know these announcers are in a nearly soundproof booth so the audio mix has to be deliberate.

Did anyone else notice this or are my late middle age ears underperforming?

I want to move to Pennsylvania so I can vote for Arlen Specter...

It was a small circle of people who believed in that trade when announced; Ernie, Archie, and us Ole Miss alumni who saw first hand how Eli plays in the big moment with average personnel.

You were right, Ernie.

And Rob's correct about that Walsh kid. Congress will call him, and he will have some juicy information on the shady dealings of the Pats. Expect Belichick to get a suspension.

Watching CalifChris struggle to understand a point spread is making me want to gouge my eyes out. Other than that, I couldn't be happier with last night's game. Nothing better than seeing cheaters get what they deserve.

Congrats to New York.
Boston...suck it. You still have the Celtics, Sox, and Brui... well, Celtics and Sox anyway.

A great thing about having your team win the Superbowl is hearing the little mini-celebrations take place - people howling, a neighbor blowing his trumpet on his stoop, the local firehouse blairing its siren and the sound of firecrackers coming from several different directions at once.

I've idealized the old LT-led defenses in my memory but last night they hit harder than I've ever seen them hit.

CC--you are driving folks crazy with betting!

There are different scenarios--but here is the most often one--

You bet $100 on the Giants with the points. If you are at a casino--you paid your $100 plus the juice in case you lose--which is 10%

You paid $110 for your ticket.

Now the Giants win--you go to the winners window and collect $210.

You win you bet -doubled- plus the juice--because you won. $210.

If you are betting online--they debit your card the $110. They will pay you the same $210 on Tuesday-tomorrow.

Now don't get started on Horse racing--altogether a different animal.

Murphy

I lived, for a time, about a half mile from Foxboro Stadium (I can't keep up with all the name changes for stadiums) and, therefor, was hoping for a Patriots win this year.

That said, the Giants played one hell of a game and are to be congratulated for it. Additionally, the Pats got cocky, and it cost them. While they played a fairly good game, it wasn't their best and they tried to do some really stupid things, like go for a touchdown when they were about 20 yards out, fourth down, where already ahead and could have made the field goal in their sleep.

"I'll be shocked if New England keeps Moss. After this year he deserves a big payday, but the Patriots aren't known for paying receivers that type of money (See Deion Branch)... I'd like to think my Eagles would come in and get him like they did with Owens, but that would be smart so they won't."

In light of the above commentary, so this particular assemblage of players the Giants team won the superbowl. Okay... This is really the third time that NY Giants, Inc., has won a superbowl. In the coming year, some players will go, some other players will join up. It will not be the same team, just the same corporation.

Now if the exact set of players were to remain and kick ass for the next couple of years, that would be something.

It's nothing more than a money thing and who can buy the best talent from whoever/wherever.

These have what to do with pro-ball? Nothing. Except money. Big Money.

I used to have a certain "loyalty" to the Denver Broncos. Then I began to realize that pro-sports is nothing more than a corporate shell game to make money. How can one be loyal to a bunch of guys that sell themselves off to the highest bidder.

Wearing the "gear" is nothing more than wearing somebody's else corporate symbol. Free advertising for the corporation, advertising that, by the way, you paid for for the privilege to wear. I'm sure the corporate boards are laughing their asses off on how they continually create walking billboards from the unsuspecting fleecees for their products

Pro-ball, fun to watch, sure. Getting all lathered up about one's chosen team is a waste of effort. What are you really rooting for?

What are you really rooting for?

Someone to decided a roundhouse kick to the Quarterback's face should be a legal play.

And the "Obligatory, Predictable Wet Blanket Award" goes to......

Zot! Congratulations!

Billions of people enjoy following the fortunes of a particular team/organization/franchise/
whatever meaningless label you find acceptable...... Since you don't personally get it they're all dismissed as corporate suckers, right?

Aspire to be something other than a turd in the punchbowl, why doncha.......

Zot,

Blow it out yer ass. What do you do for fun? Curse at ESPN?
