Iraq's parliament voted on Saturday to let thousands of members of Saddam Hussein's Baath Party return to government jobs, winning praise from Washington for achieving a benchmark step toward reconciling warring sects.

Winning praise from Washington that the reNazification of Germany....opps...sorry, I must have stepped out of the time machine in 2008...

Winning praise from Washington that the reBaathification of Iraq finally be completed.

Saddam was always a good lapdog, as Rumsfeld dutifully showed back in Reagan's days. He and his party needed to be seen out in the woodshed for a time, but now that they've "taken their medicine" all is forgotten. A country needs to be subjugated again.

Regards,
etc.

Gen. Jay Garner, 1st head of the CPA, BEGGED Washington NOT to fire the mid level Baathist government managers. Just another of sage piece of advice the WH completely ignored before firing him and replacing him with Bremmer.

The mid level guys were the ones who knew how to run a government. They HAD to take party loyalty oaths to keep their jobs.

Back in Baath
I hit the sack
Ran a Guerrilla War, but I'm glad to be back
Saddam never got loose
From the noose
But it never stopped me from hanging around
I've been looking at the sky
cause it's gettting me high
Don't need no Lancet survey cause I never die
I got nine lives
Cat's eyes
Hijabing every woman never wondering why

Cause I'm Baath
Yes I'm Back
Well I'm Baath
Yes I'm Back
Well I'm Baath, Baath
Well I'm back in Baath
Yes I'm back in Baath

All due apologies to AC/DC, but that's all I thought of when I saw that headline. :)

Just shows how a year of bad judgement can haunt you whole life.

And it also shows the true nature of the benchmarks, most of which require that the Iraqi government fix the shit WE screwed up in the first place.

In the NeoCon worldview, all of this is the Iraqis fault, and they fucked up our perfect plan.

The Fighty Rightys will be along shortly explaining why big government and socialised medicine is vital to iraq, but cataclysmic for America.

Sad part is, with all the government ministries now under various militant factions' control, these baathists will only be able to be street sweepers or IED detectors. Of course, sine they are the major IED planters, that'll work out well.

Wow, TPS invokes Godwin's law in the first post...

Impressive concession from the DR left that this is, to paraphrase Rep. Clyburn, bad news for the anti-war left.

Bravo.

Needless to say, the reason we're still there is that they disbanded the Iraqi army and chased the Baathists underground. Nice nation-building, you piece of shit lying so-called president Bush.

This is just another play in the global game of chess. NWO has all the plays in their playbook.

Chemical Ali gets his old job back? Cool.

Humans behave differently under different circumstances. The armchair gloaters here have never lived under absolute dictatorship with the danger of life and limbs distorted for the slightest infraction.

So yes, the Baathists did what Saddam conditioned them to do. But that does not mean they were necessarily monsters. Now that Saddam is gone, I believe lots of them wish only a decent life with recognition of equal rights and ability to work for a living. Depriving them of this window of opportunity is a recipe for continued social disturbance.

Since one has to live in the real world, unlike the fantsy world that some ignoramuses are projecting here, it is a good movement to rehabilitate the Baathists.

Smart move.

Next week's headline: Saddam's wife returns from exile, announces plans to run for president.

Takitez-

It would have been a much smarter move to have understood that the country needed it's technocrats and middle managers when we went in. This isn't some brilliant move, it's common sense come 3 years too late.

But thats not surprising, coming from this Administration. George and Friends have repeated St. Ron's slogan about government being the problem so long that it's become a mantra. To them, populations just self-organize into peaceful, law abiding, west-leaning societies. It doesn't matter to them that this goes against every lesson of history or human nature - it was supposed to happen because that was the "reality" they wanted. When facts didn't fit their fantasy narrative, the messenger was shot.

The problem is, of course, that they were wrong. Their whole platform was dismantling government, so they have no clue how it works or why it's necessary. It's also why they ignored the advice of the military and disbanded the Iraqi Army, ignored the State department and let vandals burn the Iraqi Ministries, and why they just sat there dumbfounded after Katrina.

The White House goes from a policy of 'de-baathification' (their words) to now praising the re-Baathification.

I give Dumbya credit though, this is just his way of admitting 'I have fucked up EVERYTHING I have ever touched'.

From the news footage I've seen, they need some serious bath's up in that place.
