I spent two weeks in New Jersey earlier in the fall. I thought it was pretty cool. Didn't notice any pollution really to speak of at all. Little too crowded and urban for my taste, but I had a great time.

Funny thing I didn't know, though, until I got there--you're not allowed to pump your own gas. Everything is full service.

I was in Warren, and commuting back and forth from my hotel into the city. I thought I was on 95.

Maybe I just got lucky as far as pollution went, I dunno. But every day was sunny and clear. Just beautiful.

There's only a few areas of the country I just would refuse to live in. I don't like the desert, don't like Louisiana. And I wouldn't like the hard winters you get up north. But whatever you like, America's got it, and I love it all. Almost all.

Never been to hardcore desert areas (Tahoe, NV didn't seem like the Wile E Coyote desert) but I can see your point. I will say this for Jersey... it has great access to America's great cities... When I lived in Newark I was a short train ride from NYC, and not all that far from Boston... now in Cherry Hill I'm just minutes from Philly, and just a short drive to DC and Baltimore...

I went to Atlantic City once--day trip from Philly when I was at a week long training for a company I worked for.

Won $600.00 off a slot machine in the first half hour and then went shopping.

This was about 1994 or so...The beach looked fine. But there was a sign that listed the No's Don'ts of the beach--It was four feet long.

It didn't say Don't swim though.

I am not understanding why they feel the need to apologize. The country was a diiferent place back then and the country did worse, or just as bad, to the native Indians.

Many black leaders feel that an apology isn't enuff and that reparations are due.

In Canada after WWII we eventually apologised to the Japanese citizens we interred and offered limited reparations. The Chinese community who were virtual slaves for the building of the cross country railroad were also made victims of a racist head tax and they too seek reparations fer that.

In the States, many folk who would ordinarily have no problems with an official apology fer slavery going down in the record books are hesitant to do so because they don't want that act to lead to lawsuits for reparations.

As for the slavery apology - As a caucasian resident of NJ, I can honestly say that while I realize slavery was a horrible crime, I feel no need to apologize for it. You see, I never owned a slave. My parents and grandparents and great grandparents never owned slaves. My family wasn't in this country until decades after slavery ended. And they were poor as shit. You'd probably have to go back a thousand years to find an ancestor of mine who was rich enough and had the opportunity to own a slave. And if you go back that far, you can probably find slaves in my ancestry. I'm not sorry for something that had nothing to do with me.

Right now, it would be the fast track for illegal aliens and would resolve the whole illegal immigration issue.
