Though he keeps four New York Yankees World Series rings in his dresser, Rudy Giuliani told reporters in New Hampshire he's rooting for the Boston Red Sox in this year's Series. "I will be rooting for the Red Sox because I am an American League fan," he told a group of reporters, most of them local. "In this case, you won the division and we lost."

Bowa,

Where's your Messiah now?

Casey at the Bat

by Ernest Lawrence Thayer

Published: The Examiner (06-03-1888)

The Outlook wasn't brilliant for the Mudville nine that day:
The score stood four to two, with but one inning more to play.
And then when Cooney died at first, and Barrows did the same,
A sickly silence fell upon the patrons of the game.

A straggling few got up to go in deep despair. The rest
Clung to that hope which springs eternal in the human breast;
They thought, if only Casey could get but a whack at that -
We'd put up even money, now, with Casey at the bat.

But Flynn preceded Casey, as did also Jimmy Blake,
And the former was a lulu and the latter was a cake;
So upon that stricken multitude grim melancholy sat,
For there seemed but little chance of Casey's getting to the bat.

But Flynn let drive a single, to the wonderment of all,
And Blake, the much despis-ed, tore the cover off the ball;
And when the dust had lifted, and the men saw what had occurred,
There was Jimmy safe at second and Flynn a-hugging third.

Then from 5,000 throats and more there rose a lusty yell;
It rumbled through the valley, it rattled in the dell;
It knocked upon the mountain and recoiled upon the flat,
For Casey, mighty Casey, was advancing to the bat.

There was ease in Casey's manner as he stepped into his place;
There was pride in Casey's bearing and a smile on Casey's face.
And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat,
No stranger in the crowd could doubt 'twas Casey at the bat.

Ten thousand eyes were on him as he rubbed his hands with dirt;
Five thousand tongues applauded when he wiped them on his shirt.
Then while the writhing pitcher ground the ball into his hip,
Defiance gleamed in Casey's eye, a sneer curled Casey's lip.

And now the leather-covered sphere came hurtling through the air,
And Casey stood a-watching it in haughty grandeur there.
Close by the sturdy batsman the ball unheeded sped-
"That ain't my style," said Casey. "Strike one," the umpire said.

From the benches, black with people, there went up a muffled roar,
Like the beating of the storm-waves on a stern and distant shore.
"Kill him! Kill the umpire!" shouted someone on the stand;
And its likely they'd a-killed him had not Casey raised his hand.

With a smile of Christian charity great Casey's visage shone;
He stilled the rising tumult; he bade the game go on;
He signaled to the pitcher, and once more the spheroid flew;
But Casey still ignored it, and the umpire said, "Strike two."

"Fraud!" cried the maddened thousands, and echo answered fraud;
But one scornful look from Casey and the audience was awed.
They saw his face grow stern and cold, they saw his muscles strain,
And they knew that Casey wouldn't let that ball go by again.

The sneer is gone from Casey's lip, his teeth are clenched in hate;
He pounds with cruel violence his bat upon the plate.
And now the pitcher holds the ball, and now he lets it go,
And now the air is shattered by the force of Casey's blow.

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Mudville - mighty Casey has struck out.

Should I give a shit who his favorite sports team is?

Think this will rid him of all those votes from New York.

Rudy gently inserts his tongue into the anus of New Hampshire Sox fans only to be rudely kicked away like a feral dog in the street.
Suckass.

Red Sox? Thought the "man" had a penchant for pink panties.

Rudy's Giuliani's hierarchy of loyalty (apologies to Maslow):

#1: N.Y.Yankees
#2: American League
#3: Boston Red Sox
#4: Norman Podhoretz
#71,211: 9-11 Firefighters

"Should I give a shit who his favorite sports team is?"

You shouldn't. But Yankees fans never root for the Red Sox. That's why they are making a big deal of this.

To me, this is the same as Hillary claiming to be a lifelong Cubs fan when in Chicago and a lifelong Yankees fan when in NY. He's pandering.

Between this story and the comment Giuliani made about how he sometimes doesn't even agree with himself, I'm beginning to fear that Rudy has already completed the blood sacrifices and satanic rituals necessary to secure a presidential nomination. He has nothing to gain by calling attention to areas where he's being indecisive and opportunistic. Nobody who cares about sports could respect a guy who roots for the Yankees *and* the Sox. It's like rooting for same-sex bathroom sexual encounters and abstinence.

Greatest Film Soundtrack: 'Purple Rain'

When I was in High School, we would get stoned and listen to the "Phantasm" soundtrack.

It was creepy but cool in a "tubular bells" sort of way.

So are you a Red Sox fan, too, Bowa?:>)

What's wrong with what Rudy said?

I saw a thread here earlier this week that had people cheering for teams that weren't their own.

I think everybody that likes baseball, whose team isn't going to the WS, has said, at one time or another, "I'd like to see XXXXX win the series".

This no different. His team isn't in it, but given the two teams that are, he wants to see the Red Sox (in this case, his teams biggest rival) win it. No crime there, and hardly pandering.

"he wants to see the Red Sox (in this case, his teams biggest rival) win it. No crime there, and hardly pandering."

The Hell it isn't. You obviously are not From New York and A NY Yankee Fan.

Presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani declared himself a Red Sox fan on Tuesday, but as recently as last summer he vowed never to trade his Yankee soul to the Sox - even for the White House.

Last July, The Providence Journal asked the former mayor this fateful question: If the Devil said you can be President if you become a Red Sox fan, would you do it?

"I'm a Yankee fan," Giuliani replied then. "I always believe it's a sign of my being straight (OHHH?)with people, about not wanting to fool them, that I was one of the first mayors to be willing to say I was a Yankee fan."

He went on to say he had "great respect" for true Red Sox fans, but as for becoming a Red Sox cheerleader in a Devil's bargain, "Probably that's a deal I could not make," he said

"he wants to see the Red Sox (in this case, his teams biggest rival) win it. No crime there, and hardly pandering."

I'm from Boston....live about 2 miles from Fenway Park, I'm a Sox fan and I fully understand the rivalry.

Now, back to Rudy.Pandering is when you claim to like one team and then claim to like another to suit yiur crowd.

HIS TEAM ISN'T AN OPTION!! Therefore, he said he'd like to see the Sox win. He never said they were his favorite team, only that he wanted to see them win over the rockies.

Hardly pandering.

A REDSOX PRAYER

Our Father, who art at Fenway...
Baseball be thy game.
They Kingdom come,
Playoffs need to be won,
On Earth, then on to the Cask 'n' Flagon.

Give us this day, a perfect Papi,
And forgive us our losses,
As we forgive those,
Like Bill Buckner.

And lead us not, into desperation,
But deliver us from any losses.

For thine is the Power,
And the Glory,
To beat the Rockies,
Forever and ever....the Yankees suck

A-men

So was it just a coincidence that Byrd's HGH use was leaked just before Game 7 and that George Mitchell, the MLB drug investigator is also a director for the Sox?
Hmmmm.......
No wonder Rudy switched teams.

If Rudy didn't hurt tear his rotator cuff removing debris at ground zero he would have been on the hill last night instead of Beckett.

I wore a Yankees baseball cap in Rhode Island a few years ago, quite by accident. I was stopped twice by people who warned me it was not a good idea to wear it.

I don't remember the yanks being a part of it this season.

Oh well...... ;-P

But then Rudy is not sure if he is against water-boarding either - "it depends how it's done"

Giuliani Roots For Red Sox

I actually think that this story has legs. I'm not a Yankees fan or red sox fan so when I first heard what he said, it sounded reasonable. You root for your team first, then your league.

But the hatred that the Red Sox and Yankees have for each other supercedes all reason -- shame on Rudy. As supposedly the "true" yankee fan in the 2008 field, he should have known better.

I think he is going to be slammed for this over and over again.

Jon Stewart told an illustrative tale the other night. About 3 days after 9/11 volunteers were still cleaning up the wreckage. Jon noticed a guy in a Red Sox cap helping out along with all the rest. At some point somebody noticed this and shouted at the guy really loudly.

"Hey!, The Red Sox SUCK!"

Now that wot ya call a true rivalry.

Spud agrees with Bowa and Sarge that Rudy's shameless pandering here will do more harm than good. Unless there's any credence to the blog-god's theory that Rudy has crossed his T's and dotted his eyes with blood on some Mephistophalean contract and is beyond ordinary mortal concerns.

Perhaps after some kinda aqua-satanic ritual involving sacrificing Ferrets to the Dark Lord or sommat.

Be Well.

Rudy. Is. Fucked.

Who the fuck cares who Rudy roots for? Why is this even an issue? Why in the heck am I even wasting my time here? Time to load the bong.
