Bizarro world. If it wasn't such a tragedy it would be funny. This man is jointly responsible for a war of choice about oil and based on lies, a war that has caused hundreds of thousands of deaths and injuries, millions of refugees and the total devastation of Iraq. This man calls others an obstacle to peace.

If he's so worried about nuclear proliferation let him say the same things about India and Pakistan. He could say the same thing about Israel too if he wasn't saying it at the Washington Institute for Near East Peace. An oxymoron if ever I saw one.

And what would Iran be willing to do with a nuke that it wouldn't be willing to do do today? It would be an empty status symbol -- but with it would come responsibilities. After, A'jad and with coordinated US and European DIPLOMACY, odss are that Iran would do just what South Africe did.

Obstacle to peace, but great potential for profit.

What kind of "peace" is Cheney talking about? I don't think his interpretion of "peace" aligns with the christian version of "peace". His "peace" is "your either with us or against us" which is no peace at all.

Let the Iranians have Nuclear Power. Just let them know that if they develop a nuclear weapon that we have a thousand ICBMs aimed at thier country ready to fly.

Vice President Dick Cheney on Sunday described Iran as an obstacle to peace in the Middle East and said the world could not stand by and allow it to develop a nuclear weapon.

Then let the CIA do the job they were created to do. The CIA exists for basically one reason - to keep nukes out of the hands of crazy people. Everything else is the job of the military.

Tell the CIA to stop spying on Americans, and to go see what Iran is up to, and to sabotage efforts as needed.

Look at it this way. If WWII Japan had gotten wind that we were building a nuke, what would have been their best effort to stop it? To bomb the entirety of the American SouthWest and hope they get the 1000 sq. ft. where the bomb is being built?
Or to get agents on the ground and sabotage?

But the Administration doesn't want that. They don't want to stop Iran quickly and cleanly and quietly.

They want a war, plain and simple.
They want to use up $10 Billion worth of cruise missles so they can go order more from the defense contractors.

Quite frankly, the neo-cons are bored of the cold war. We have all the military forces we need for a cold war, nothing more to build. And CIA operations are too small and cheap to get the CEOs richer.
They want a hot war now with Billions of dollars of bombs falling, cause that's how you make money.

If this was only about Iran and a nuke, the CIA would have taken care of this already.

Cheney is certainly right about the Iranians but misses the fact that he himself is an equally large stumbling block to peace.

Cheney should be required to wear a helmet at all times.

More than that, they are a spy agency whose only obvious success was Wilson's War in Afghanistan (with Osama on their payroll).

But this was CIA agent Valerie Plame's job, which must be why Cheney had her outed. He needed Valerie to stop doing her job so he can blow Iran to Kingdom come. This will provide more arms sales.

How is he right??? Would Iraq be a peaceful place right now if Iran didn't exist??? No, it wouldn't. They have little of nothing to do with the main problems in that country. Saudi Arabia has contributed more to the violence in Iraq than Iran has. But Cheney doesn't want war with Saudi ARabia.
His comments are just as dishonest as the ones he made before during and after the Iraq invasion which have been proven to be plain old fashioned lies. The man is a liar and nothing he says should ever be taken seriously. Horrible consequences follow taking his lies as truths.

Cheney's our biggest obstacle to peace

It would be amusing if it wasn't so tragic but it was reported by Chris Matthews yesteday that H. Clinton is sending out mai to the faithful restating her position that her vote to declare Iran a terrorist state was not a vote authorizing GWB to attack Iran. If he does attack Iran, H. Clinton's chances of becoming POTUS will have suffered a MAJOR setback; once again, she would have been shown to have exercised poor judgement.

I am sure that Cheney's remarked spooked her.

In the linear scale of technological acheivement it is impossible to stop anyone from pursuing these acheivements.

As time goes on, other countries (third world) will also arrive at the nuclear threshold. It's simply progress, not an anti-american phenom.

Trying to allow countries up to a certain point on the technological acheivement scale (and no further) is like urinating into high winds. This is one we will not win.

Mutually assured destruction has worked before, I don't see why it can't work now.

Is there a less credible person than Dick Cheney, I mean, to people with normal brain activity (neo-conservatives and 'believers' need not respond)? Seriously, when you read this you have to laugh, except it dawns on you that a) they believe it, and b) there's a large consitutuency that agree that we need to show them (Iran) the error of their ways. Please do not group me as someone being led by these guys. Double-talk, innuendo, bull-shit rhetoric, and outright lies are the language of this administration, Congress, politicians, in general, and anyone else out there protecting their; money, power, or prestige.
